To reverse the polarity there are several methods. you can use a phase reversal plug in, or you can insert an EQ, bypasse it and click on the phase reversal symbol (a crossed 0), or you might have a reversed channel in you patch bay that you can use, just pass the signal through that. Or, you might have a desk that has phase reversal on your channel.
If you can't reverse phase for the bottom snare 57, you can try tilting the bottom mic to a different direction then the top mic. Sort of move the two mics around so that if they were to be hypothetically extended through the snare that their paths would not cross. It's a bit of a trick but it should work. Or just move them till you can't hear any phase, if you're daring. Then again there are many phase reversal software on the net.
I REEALLLYYY need some help!!! I'm recording my band over the next 2 days and I am using a Yamaha MW12 CX mixer and Cubase AI 4 Software. Could some PLEEEASSSEE tell me how to recording the drums so that each drum (kick, snare, toms, etc) is on a separate track while I am recording with all the mics miced up.
There are USB mics. Wether you use them on drums is up to you and the sound you want. Try one, see how it sounds, get its frequency responce chart and Sound Pressure Levels.
Try try try...who knows...it might just be what you want.
There are condenser and dynamic mics so...there you have it
and you also may want to attempt to set up your drums in a correct way. the toms should be about one inch from each other, not on each side of the bass drum, and the floor tom should be about same height and on the same "line" as the snare drum, so they are in line. plus, tuning is much more than half of a good drum sound. your floor tom is horrendously out of tune. try to get a o-ring or something for that to control the nasty overtones.
actually it doesnt matter where each drum is placed. It is all on personal preference to how you like your drums set up and what sound your looking for.
How do you tune the snare drum?

How does one reverse polarity (phase). I haven't found anything that tells how that is done!

With the "Phase Reverse Button" ;-) The symbol is a slash combined with a zero^^
Not every desk has this possibility but every DAW does.

is their such thing as USB drum mics?

You wouldn't be the first to point that out now. Yes, I failed... :p

Nice beginner vid, but don't forget to emphasize on proper tuning... for every instrument, but particularly on drums !

Indeed, tuning the drums is half way for a good sound.

Why does it say "capacitor" instead of "condenser"? Oh dear... fail...
GaryCancer 3 years ago
Yes, YOU fail by not realizing that another word for condenser IS capacitor.
Tsk tsk...
