This is such a neat video. I'm interested in ways freegans do things. I have adopted some that way of lifestyle. When I was in the bigger city. I would go din diving for clothes and other items. I don't know how to go about dumpster diving here..
I could do some of that but dumpster diving is a bit extreme and squatting is not my thing when I have a home but the not buying new items I do i hardly buy new I would just eat at home instead and buy organic or eco.

@UniversalTruths I believe in being a freegan but as a property owner I thought I would let you know the other side. We don't want people staying in our properties because it poses a legal problems. If someone is hurt on our property we are liable. If my insurance finds out people are squatting in my property I could lose my insurance. People don't tend to respect or care for property they don't pay for. Fires can be started, illegal activities carried out, etc. It sucks but it's reality.
I love Dumpster Diving... the day before thanksgiving I found a dumpster full of bread and pastries I took two trunk loads to the local shelter. and enough for my family and I to use for the next couple of weeks. Hey why not it's still good? I also have a new desk dived from a local office supply company. Great stuff Dumpster Diving is.

Dumpster driving is illegal because the dumpster is on private property and the store could be help liable for any accidents or injuries if they occurred. They might be held liable for any sickness or death from food taken from a dumpster.

theres a big difference between going through residential trash, i.e. waste food and cleaning products from someone's house, and going through trash from a supermarket or grocery, i.e. boxes full of unopened containers or ripe fruits

Dumpster diving gets you alot of stuff, not just garbage! Appliance shops throw out TVs because they're scratched, food is thrown out because the package is dinted...the only thing wrong with it is that it's in the (often clean) bin.
This video makes us look like we'll take anything that's free, and damn the hygiene and safety! Not true. Freeganism is about lowering your consumer level by re-using the vast waste society produces. I've been a freegan and I recommend it.

It doesn't last forever. Sometimes spoiled food might not harm you, other times it will. Maybe dumpsters are just better here in Australia. Not just spoiled food is thrown out- and often its not actually spoiled; the date is set earlier than the food decays for legal reasons. Aside from food you can get TVs, stereos, A/Cs...

If one needs to fart why not have a 'fart bank' established at your business or suggest such a concept to your employer who I'm sure would be most willing to impliment such an inovative idea. I get almost all my food from skips (dumpsters), but I never really get dirty. Everything is packed and wrapped (unfortunately).
Very few people in cities for some period of time never buy anything new.

theres a big difference between going through residential trash, i.e. waste food and cleaning products from someone's house, and going through trash from a supermarket or grocery, i.e. boxes full of unopened containers or ripe fruits

I had a construction job on an U.S. Air Force Base and looked into a dumpster and saw the remains of meals provided to flight crews un-opened candy bars, small cans of fruit juice, chips, sandwiches ect, ect the first day the other members of my crew laughed at me for dumpster diving the second day they commented on all the good stuff I was getting the third day I had competition.

Dumpster diving gets you alot of stuff, not just garbage! Appliance shops throw out TVs because they're scratched, food is thrown out because the package is dinted...the only thing wrong with it is that it's in the (often clean) bin.
This video makes us look like we'll take anything that's free, and damn the hygiene and safety! Not true. Freeganism is about lowering your consumer level by re-using the vast waste society produces. I've been a freegan and I recommend it.

Lol... often clean? I wonder what the awful smells coming from dumpsters are... maybe bacteria? Not to mention, dumpster diving is illegal. Food is thrown out most often because it's EXPIRED. It doesn't last forever. Sometimes spoiled food might not harm you, other times it will. Our society can't produce the exact amount of food to feed the exact number of people in the US, hence some goes to waste. That's better than not having enough food to support people, right?

Maybe dumpsters are just better here in Australia. Not just spoiled food is thrown out- and often its not actually spoiled; the date is set earlier than the food decays for legal reasons. Aside from food you can get TVs, stereos, A/Cs...
Saying having too much food is better than not having enough is like saying 'well I have gonorrhoea, but at least it's not syphilis'. When the food industry gets its act together we can stop skipping for food. Till then, we make the best of a bad situation.

If one needs to fart why not have a 'fart bank' established at your business or suggest such a concept to your employer who I'm sure would be most willing to impliment such an inovative idea. Every fart produced will be collected from each employee ( & visitor) thus allowing the storing and using of gas matter for generation of electrical energy.
