@SouthWestVaPepper I got the Limbsaver recoil pad at Walmart in the sporting section. Think I paid abot $7 for it. Any Walmart should have it. Thanks for watching & commenting.
Interesting I have the SAME exact gun a mossberg maverick 88 12 gauge but I noticed a lot of ppl's videos they do on this gun always have a short barrel? Mine is longer than most ppl's. Anyone know anything about this?
@99ann5 I think you may have what they refer to as the" Mossberg Security" Shotgun. It has a longer barrell and longer tube so it will hold more shells. MIne has the 18 1/2 inch barrel, referred to as a "riot" shotgun. Either way it's a great shotgun. Thanks for watching.
@anthony4199 I got the sling from Levy Leathers in New Berlin, Wisc off Amazon.com. Great sling. Self adjusting. Fits ANY shotgun - no swivels required. Thanks for watching & commenting. Think I paid $30.00 for it.
@x7Chaosbullet If you're talking about "shooting skeet" then you use bird shot. I use #7 or #71/2 bird shot. Some people use #6 and some #8. But anything between #6 and #8 birdshot should do very well. Thanks for watching & commenting.
@centermass37 Limbsaver claimed that it cut down 70% on the recoil. I didn't believe it until I put one on my Mossberg. Shooting lots of slugs is now a joy. It really works. Thanks for commenting.
how did you get the engraving on the gun to showup like that? i have the same shotgun except mine has the longer barrel. i even have the same recoil pad and shell holder on the stock.
@jbyrd41991 Get a white Crayola crayon and rub all over the lettering. Up & down & back & forth. The crayon will get down in the ethcing of the letters. Then just simply take a clean cloth and rub off the lettering. All the excess will come off but the deep down lettering will remain white. A little haze will show so just wipe the receiver down with a slightly oiled rag and you're down. Takes about 2 or 3 minutes. It will last for 2 to 3 months and then just do it all over again. Thanks.
@HEEBprepper Thanks for watching and commenting. Mossberg is an excellent shotgun. As we say in law enforcement here, the only reason for a handgun is to fight your way to a shotgun.
@jmmurdy I like Winchester's also. I really want a Winchester Model 97 12 gauge pump shotgun with the hammer on the grip stock. They were produced in 1897 and were used in WWI - WWII - Korea - Vietnam. They were called the "Trench" shotgun. They were even used by the USMC in the Gulf War. The Model 97 has been in use for over 100 years. Offered $1,000 to a buddies Dad for his and he turned it down. Said it wasn't for sale. The Model 97 & the 1911 Colt 45 keep eluding me. I want both.
Hey Deputy, I bought my first shotgun, a Mossberg 500A, from Beckley Gun and Pawn a few months ago. So, that Winchester recoil pad really works? I read on the package that it reduces recoil by 70% but I was skeptical.
@MilesOhToole Yes it works very well. It has an inch of soft rubber that absorbs most of the bite going into your shoulder. The recoil still makes the barrel rise but is a lot softer impact to the shoulder area. It does say reduce by 70% on the label. Didn't think it would but it surprised me. Haven't been back to Beckley in a long time. Was born in Mullens and lived in Itmann as a child. Spent most of my life in Ga. Thanks for watching
@deputysheriff100 Well, sir, I just got back from the range a few hours ago and fired my shotgun with the recoil pad and would like to thank you for your advice. It worked better than I ever imagined! I'll try to get another YouTube video up ASAP. Thanks again and God bless.
@MilesOhToole I'm glad you are pleased with it. It really did make a huge difference with me. Always glad when I can recommend something that works for others. I get more satisfaction out of that than discovering something on my own. Like to help others. I always like to say what works for me might not work for you but you never know until you try. Thank you for your comment. Take care.
@mrpicky510 My range master told me that shooting slugs thru a choke makes it expand. And after so many times it can't expand any further so it pushes against the inside of the barrel. At my agency chokes are not allowed in the shotgun. Lots of people tell me they shoot slugs with a choke and nothing happens. It's not an exact science I know. But it is a pain to take the choke out everytime you shoot slugs. What he said makes sense to me. Thanks for watching & comments.
@deputysheriff100 Yes that actually makes a ton of sense. I have in the past taken out the choke to shoot slugs, my point was that I've left it in at times and not had a malfunction, however I can see how that could add pressure to the barrel can cause catostrophic damage
@mrpicky510 As a kid growing up that's all I ever heard a 12 gauge pump called. Not long ago I was talking to a youth group and I said riot shotgun. They didn't know what I was talking about. They wanted to know why itwas called that and I said because it will break up a riot in a heartbeat. They thought it was really funny. Also breaks up a jail/prison riot. Don't think I've ever seen an 870 with a 28 inch barrel. I've seen 20 & 24 inch. Bet that thing reaches out a long way. Thanks
@deputysheriff100 I have it featured in a couple of my other vidoes, most recently the "zombie apocolypse" video if you care to see it, nothing special though
@mrpicky510 Checked out your Zombie vid with 870 28inch barrel. Nice. I liked your Bianchi Duster you called it. Haven't seen one of those in a while. We always called them "Black Jacks" and "Slap Sticks" Carried one for years. We're only allowed to carry Asps now. And you have to qualify with it to be certified. Times they are changing.
@deputysheriff100 Yeah those old saps and jacks are considered pretty "old school" these days but I love the craftsmanship. Dave Doerr at D3 makes these by hand and they are top notch, I have a bunch of them. Old timers tell me how well they would work on a beligerant drunk if you slapped someone in the mouth with it
Great video that is an awesome shotgun love those Mossbergs IO like how they are compaired to the Remmington 870. I hear you about not blasting of rounds in your back yard and having SWAT show up I have the same problem the only places around me are controlled ranges. That sir is aslo a sweet knife looks very sharp Take care and be safe my friend.
@Semiautomaticshooter Thank you Mike. That knife is razor sharp. Took me a while to learn how to sharpen knives but I can do it pretty good now. Ruined a bunch of old beaters learning though.
@Dafarnakis Thank you for the kind comment. The model 88 shoots just as well as the issued Remington 870. I can do anything with the Maverick that I can do with the 870. Enjoying your channel very much. You put out vids faster than I can keep up with them. And you always have good ones. Take care
Hi there I have the same mossburg and I really would love to have the recoil pad can you tell me where to get them thanks Beth
