Im a lakers fan.... and a kings fan. And i cannot forget the rivalry we had in 2000 2001 when there were Bibby webber stojakovic christie divac... Those were the times
Damnit man.....Why was CWebb so SOFT in Game7 at home? Pissed me and my cousin off man. I remember watching the game and banging my fists against the floor and falling all over the damned place everytime he would settle for jumpers and not abuse the Laker PF's. He shoulda owned them!!! It all went downhill from here. Sacto woulda easily beaten NJ that year!!!
I actually was in favor of the Peja/Artest trade because after Vlade left, Peja wasn't the same player. Let's face it, he was stinking up the court his last couple years here. If the Kings hadn't made that trade, they wouldn't have made the playoffs in 2006. And look at Peja now: 14 ppg, 1.3 apg, 3.3 rpg, 42% shooting. Artest beats him in nearly every category, including Peja's famed shooting, and he is a much better defender.
either way even if webber was healthy, no one was better than the spurs that year. the spurs dominated that season. if webber was there, yes the kings might have beat the mavs but the spurs would have just knocked them out
You know what if the Kings were to keep this team for another 2-3 years they would have won the NBA title at least once. I believe the Kings team from the 2000-2003 season was the shit but all they needed to do was kick it into another gear. Vlade was indeed THE MAN to count on when guarding Shaq and was very good at taking charges as well. As a matter of fact this Kings team kinda reminds me of the old Utah Jazz team with Stockton and Malone after Jordan left in 1998. But what's done is done.
are you fuckin dumb or what? in 2000 the king barely made the playoffs and they lost to the lakers in the 1st round. in 2001 the lakers swept the kings in 4 games easily. 2002 it was close but the lakers were still better. 2000 and 2001 the kings really had no chance. i can understand why you might say 02 even though i still think lakers were better, but 00 and 01? kings werent close
the kings destroyed the lakers in 2002, kings were a much better team, if they wernt cheated out of it they would have been champions, havnt you heard anything? the refs came out and admitted they cheated and gave the lakers the series
@iveywebb44: Check the stats from Game #3 of that series & then come again with that refs cheated nonsense! Did the refs cheat in Game #5 when Derek Fisher was knocked to the floor by a moving screen (ILLEGAL) trying to guard Bibby on that winning shot? And how did the Kings average double digits in missed free throws over the course of that series if they weren't getting any calls? The refs didn't cause the Kings to miss all those 3 pointers or swat the ball to Horry in Game #4 either!
@jazzsax1965 Lakers won game 4 by 1 point.... oh wait a sec take 3 points away cuz of walker's shot at the end of the first half that DIDNT count and what do you have???? kings win in 5 games end of story. No fixed game 6 and no choke in game 7. unless game 5 was in LA fisher was not getting that call, hes gotten away with enough flops in his career. Looks like a fish out of water with all those flops on defense.
@ISLaughTyI:Typical Kings fan! Referring to Fisher flopping WHEN THAT'S SOMETHING DIVAC INVENTED! TRY LOOKING AT THE STATS FROM GAME 3 BEFORE WHINING ABOUT THE CALLS IN GAME 6! The winning shot by Bibby in Game 5 should have been wiped away due to a moving screen (ILLEGAL) committed by Webber on Fisher! BAD 3 point shooting, BAD free throw shooting & lack of basic fundamentals (Divac's volleyball pass in Game 4) is why your team lost that series! PERIOD! THE REFS WERE NOT A FACTOR!
I'd have loved to have had this game back paydog as someone that rooted for the Kings. They had the Lakers I tell you. If they'd went more with B.Jackson as well. L.A. couldn't handle him.
Too bad the NBA doesn't have a rivalry like this anymore, this was the last of the "heated" NBA rivalries that resembled Knicks/bulls
Webber was my scapegoat while he played for the Kings, especially when he returned from his career-altering knee surgery in 2004. But now that he's gone I realize he was the Sacramento Kings. As a friend of mine said "When we had Webber, we thought Webber was the problem. Now we realize it wasn't Webber who sucked, but everyone else who sucks"
Well I liked Bobby Jackson when he was with the Kings. `High energy guy off the bench that could defend his ass off. Hedo was erratic, but a good guy to have off the bench. They had the perfect team to dethrone the Lakers, because they had a great PG and PF, which were the Lakers' weakest positions.
I blame CWebb all the way for Game7, you see guys bricking it from 3, you don't keep passing to them when you're the star player on your teams.
Man CWebb really pissed me off in Game 7, he shoulda been more assertive and stopped settling for J's and deferring to Bibby. No way should he have been slowed by Robert Horry
Webber only scored six points in the second half and overtime, and he looked tentative out there. Doug Christie choked, going like 2/13 as did Peja. Mike was a single man fighting for a lost cause, though Bobby Jackson tried to help.
Exactly......he shoulda barreled his head and go to the hoop for FT's and put Horry in trouble, instead of settling for jumpshots and trying to be a passing forward and deferring to Bibby. I always found CWebb more flash than substance when it mattered most. Duncan or Malone wouldn't be deferring to lesser players in crunch time.
Christie was always a streak shooter so I'm not surprised. Peja disappointed for someone as great a shooter as he was. Rick Fox got into his head.
Peja wasn't at full strength though, we have to give him that. He missed the first three games of the series and played injured the rest. Christie admitted he was scared in game 7. And Webber yeah, he could have easily manhandled Horry. He never used his post-up ability quite enough
Well what do you think about the Kings' future? Do you like Kmart a lot? Rather odd, he looks just like Doug Christie. I wish the Kings had someone like him in game7. He's smooth and he hits a high % from the field. Too bad out here in T.O. we don't catch a lot of Kings games on the West Coast.
I'm still optimistic about this year, maybe because I haven't seen them play yet lol. And I'm very impressed with Kevin Martin and I hope he continues developing into a star. H
My problem with the Kings is that they don't play any D (except Artest), and there's no true leader. In fact I don't think the Kings have had a true leader since Richmond was a King.
When I mean leader, I mean someone the team could rally around and would take responsibility for wins/losses. CWebb wasn't this kind of player, Bibby-Martin too quiet. Artest too unpredictable. They need to get rid of him despite his talent.
The Kings had a leader in the Chris Webber era. His name was Vlade Divac. He brought everyone together in that locker room and was one of the main reasons the Kings had such great chemistry.
Yeah my bad, forgot about him. He might've been a finesse centre, but he was fiery. I remember that "home court" prediction he made vs. the Lakers. They needed CWebb to have that kind of attitude towards L.A.
I think CWebb was intimidated going into the paint vs. Shaq and showed the Lakers too much respect. Despite the obvious mismatch, Vlade wasn't backing down from Shaq whether on or off the court.
I always thought Vlade did a pretty good job against Shaq compared to other centers. And unlike the Kings current center, Brad Miller, Vlade had some post moves and could play inside. I think he was a better passer and rebounder, and also more consistent. That's pretty sad, since Vlade was in his mid thirties and the tail end of his career while playing here.
Divac?wow some leader,Incredible shape,Smoke brakes during the game, ate up a huge contract, and then said-fuck you by signing back with the lake show? The kings had great chemistry because they were team players, unselfish,Vlade was a big part of there playoff success,But no rings though?wow-And why didn't charlotte want to resign him?
I'm not going to say I'm a Kings fan. I'm not a bandwagon jumper, but as someone who always roots for the underdog in pro-sports, the Game7 loss vs. L.A. hurt me really bad. I really wanted L.A.'s ass that year.
What it came down to was free throws. When you shoot 16/30 from the line you're not going to win many games. It ticked me off though whenever people mentioned the fts as something they needed to work on because they had been such a good ft shooting team in 2001-02, so good that I doubted whether they could improve. It was just one game, but one game that counted most, where they couldn't sink their free throws.
hey dumbass./.....its not LA's fault that kobe sucks balls compared to C-Webb and bibby......as soon as Kobe can win one without shaq ill say the lakers are a good team
and dont bring in the bulklshit about old school championships....they had the best two players of all time in Magic and Wilt.
i was just saying god and shaq only won cuz of wade without him they would sux plus they play in the east which sux if the lakers played there they would be better let me see the heat in the west and i admit lakers suck now but kobe is the #1 player
yes thats why does players got schooled in the olympics look how old are you little kid i personally dont like kobe but i know hes the best player ok i been watching the nba since the earlt 90's and i know enough about it since it began back in the 40's you just on there dicks

KG is the best overall player and dont talk about steal 2 a game by iverson wow that changes everything steals aint worth anything if u miss the player will pass by you its basic defense u idiot and i admit kobe cant defend no more like in the past like 01 but wateva

They have 11 championships w/o Shaq, all with great centers. The Lakers have never won with only a great shooting guard. Their first five championships in Minneapolis were under the leadership of George Mikan. In 1972, they had Wilt. In The 1980s they won the championship five times with Kareem as their center. I always thought over the course of this rivalry healthy or not Fox still got into Peja's head. He often had poor shooting games vs. Fox.
Christie I liked for his effort, he'd have better been suited as a 6th man to come of the bench than starter if they'd had a better shooting SG.
