  • he zeros it out with the lid on, then measures the coffee with the lid off.. oopzy

  • Don't judge something before you try it, it's great!

  • Thanks chef.

  • yeah coz everyone has a coffee grounder!

  • How hard is it to make a cup of coffee.

  • @Wysth Not hard at all, I do it all the time. Making a GOOD cup of coffee is a completely different story however.

  • why would you spend this much time making coffee? Lame.

  • Who the fuck has a kitchen scale?

  • @hurrrrrdur

Anyone who wants to measuring incredibly easier.

  • How about trying NOT to read from that paper behind the camera? Looks kind of funny... Not good at all i mean.

  • Holy shit...you're right. This guy is annoying.

  • Sounds exactly like the guy from PBS's Motor Week.

  • This guy is so fuckin annoying.

  • He should measure and weigh his food intake.

  • That's bullshit about stirring it. Just let it sit and then press

  • Oh cool, let me get my gram and oz measuring cups!

  • Forget all your high dollar cups of coffee, buy a french press and it'll rival a starbucks taste.

heat your milk and cream just before you pour the coffee and it'll stay hot as some of the heat is lost during the 4 min. steep time.

  • Sufferin' succotash!

  • Thanks.

  • I love coffee.

Sad to say but my niece is following in my footsteps she is only 3... but i put a lot of milk.

  • I like his lisp

  • I understand zeroing the scale and measuring the amount of coffee, but remember that if you take the lid off you have to put it back in to get an accurate reading on the grams of coffee. Thanks for such a great tip, I tried pressing some coffee this morning and it worked great. I live 3000 ft above sea level and could not get my water to boil above 180F.

  • this dudes like the steve bruell of coffee... for your morning!

  • what a bunch of anal-retentive bullshit. I could make the coffee in a hap-hazard fashion, and you damned well couldn't tell the difference. I cannot STAND pretentious bullshit like this. "oh, no, this coffee tastes HORRIBLE! Someone must've heated the water to 201 degrees! cough...gasp....choke.

Grow the hell up you pedantic losers.

  • @kenfo0 Don't get so mad, it's only a cup o' joe

  • @angelodelsenno I am not mad. It is ridiculous nonsense. I once knew someone who pretended they could tell the difference between teas where the water was heated in the microwave vs on the stove. After proving her wrong, instead of saying, ok, I was wrong, it was "you're a jerk". No, pretentious a-holes who make up nonsense then blame others for their bs are a-holes. I can make coffee any of 4 different ways and the avg coffee drinker wouldn't know the diff. Grow up.

  • @angelodelsenno Don't get mad!!! It's just coffee bro.

  • Hold on one minute. That foam you get on top after stirring MUST go. Get rid of it with a spoon. It tastes like unhappy overtime.

  • This guy is awesome. Such a bro

  • Dude, more coffee, fewer cheeseburgers, I want to see you making these kinds of videos when you're 90.

  • aw, what a sweet man!

  • this man is probably nice man but , i am desagree with him , I can say the "french press" is the WORST cofee maker! i have one "french press" like this one on the video and the taste is really disgusting! i don't use "french press" more. i prefer the coffe maker.

  • @theyworld Then you did it wrong, because the press pot simply presents the real coffee, as it is. If anything they allow more flavor than other methods, so if your coffee is disgusting try spending a bit more and buying some quality coffee..?

  • @bigglyguy yeah, that's the ticket, j/a. if the coffee is more expensive, it MUST be better! Try reading consumer reports coffee review. price has little to do with quality. Grow up.

  • I had French Press Coffee in Las Vegas.... OHHHH it was good! I must give this a try.

  • they really shouldn't zoom in on his face if he's reading off of a teleprompter. I was trying to pay attention, but i could do was watch his eyes moving back and forth. It kind of made him look mental.

  • Holy fuck , it's not that complicated you fat bastard.

  • Thank you soooo much! After watching this I think my next cup of pressed coffee might actually taste good :)

  • I like the video, very well made. You're a terrible actor, but I really like you anyway.

  • I Like This guy.....he speaks well....has energy in his voice and has a good visual presence as he demonstrates. His voice tone is very fine too. And remember, the owner of this video site can delete tactless comments anytime. Keep up the good work my friend. John-Hans Melcher TheQuietDrummer

  • @TheWeeklyTelegram

    Dude, that's exactly my coffee.

Starbucks Sumatra with no milk or sugar.

  • I used to like fuckin' French coffee, 'till I saw this creepy fat fuck!

  • @99centstore Why do you say stuff like this? I'm reporting this as net trolling.

  • @aabxy2 What is net trolling?

  • french press sucks! cofeemachine rules! :)

  • You tared your scale and then took out the plunger :S Good thing you had the coffee pre-weighed!

  • @thexbigxgreen; @commonsense369 Nice catch! As a seasoned chef, he usually measures by sight : ) Tare the empty press to come out exact. Thanks for you help.

  • @ ParisiCoffee--I think you presented a nice video, thank you.

Having said that, if the purpose of placing the press on the scale and zeroing it out was to accurately measure the coffee, why did you zero out the scale before removing the top and plunger? In doing this, you would start with a negative weight.

    Just curious.

  • Are Merril Howard Kalin and this guy brothers? hahahahahaha

  • doesnt any1 have a kettle?? :P

  • Why do you have a cooking apron on?

  • @TheBrandenwhitcomb Hahaha I'm laughing my ass off at this comment. I've got tears in my eyes.

  • thanks for the video! it did explain how to use french press

it would be better if you could also include ml and degree Celsius ....so that i dont need to google it for twice...

  • Love your videos man! Keep'em comin'!!

  • Man, this method makes great tasting coffee! And it's easy to do! Flavor comes out strong and full of its aroma!

Thanks for this very well explained video, passionate about coffee :)

    Vive le cafe!

  • He's had too much coffee

  • Do you cover the French press during the. 4 minutes or leave it open?

  • @JesusisLord7771 We suggest to stir after the first minute, then place the lid on until for the remaining time before you plunge - to retain the heat.

  • Man I love this guy.

  • That guy is a HERO. Clearly loves what he is doing and clearly loves cheesy overacting. Awesome! Great video! It was actually pretty insightful as well so cheers to that I'm currently drinking some illy coffee I was recommended but I'll have to try Parisi soon.

  • this guy speaks in caricature. lol

  • Very informative thank you!

  • lmao he makes this way to complicated all you do is put friggen boiling water in the press n dump some coffee in it and give it a stir n push the piston down u aint gotta wait 4 minutes thats way to long

  • Looks like buddy here has already made several pots of coffee before filming ...

  • French press is excellent tasting, but more work than a Bialetti Moka Pot. I have the Bialetti Classic Stainless Steele. It actully makes more of small cup of Turkish cofee than Real Espresso which for me is just fine. Espresso is great, but the good machines are too exensive and a French Press or Moka Pot will last 20+ years easy.

  • Turkish Coffee > All

  • French Press is like paper filtering?

  • I don't know which to try, so I am going to buy an espresso maker, moka pot, french press, and a percolator! >_<

  • your a good speaker relay helps allot with these instructional videos makes u seem profesional

  • a little comercial

  • Nice instructional video. Thank you.

  • Speaking of coffee this guy needs to switch to decaff!

  • I love the smell of Parisi coffee when I'm driving own I-35 s before heading to Westport =)

    I miss home

  • I love the smell of Parisi coffee when I'm driving own I-35 s before heading to Westport =)

    I miss home

  • In my instructions that came with my bodum french press,it says that using metal spoons/utensils will scratch and can break the glass.

  • I just got a French Press for christmas! Cant wait to start using it. I mainly checked youtube to what temperatures are fine for the Press before it explodes.

All I need now is some ham, eggs and hot sauce then I'm all set for a Dexter Breakfast!! (shoe laces, tshirt, floss and wink at the camera are optional but highly recommended)

  • @sparktank liking - no, loving the Dexter reference........

  • Informative. I've been using a press for years, but I learned a lot from you today. Thanks for sharing. GREAT JOB!

  • Im young and kind of new to the whole coffee thing. What is the purpose of the press and is that bag full of coffee beans or already grinded coffee?

  • @lsdman14 The Press is one of the great brewing methods allowing you to make coffee so as to truly taste distinctive flavors. There are other methods of course, but the Press is easy and inexpensive. Beans are whole bean for grinding fresh as needed. Thanks for watching.

  • @lsdman14 French press coffee is 1000 times better than auto-drip coffee. And, you should always use freshly ground coffee... preferably freshly roasted at a real coffee shop. Grocery store coffee is garbage.

Also, be careful if you heat the water in the press in a microwave oven. In a new (un-scratched) french press, water can rise above 212°F in a microwave without boiling... but the second that you touch it, it will convert to steam explosively. Better to get an electric kettle.

  • widda

  • haha this guy made my day

  • Screw the measurements. Just pour in some coffee and pour in some water and see what happens.

  • man! he has a watery mouth.

  • Goddamn America, your measurement units are horrible.

  • what grinder did you use?? i saw a grinder the other day that seems to be that one, but i'm not sure...

  • @xBlackguardianx use a burr grinder, do some Googling. Lots of info on what's "best".

  • I thought he'd do a spit take at the end.

  • Haha i bet at the end when he was drinking it. His probably thinking inside "Fuck this tastes like shit, imagine all the fools that bought this"

  • What kind of roast of coffee would be best when brewing in a press? Would a French and Italian roasts in general be too strong for the French press?

  • @aznkor101 The Press will bring out the full flavor of a French or Italian roast, but it depends upon how bold you like your coffee. We have but generally don't do these in the press simply because there is so much more flavor to experience in medium even light roasts in this brew method. Beauty is you can experiment with several small batches of different blends and roasts to find your fit.

  • good video, now i wanna go buy a french press

  • good job, thanks big fella.

  • I couldn't keep a straight face... this guy is comedic.

  • This guy reminds me of Phil Hartman's anal retentive chef character.

  • Comment removed

  • Eugh, I hate Imperial/US units (like ounces)! Nice tips, though. Thanks.

  • Maaaan I want one of these so bad. Just so I can reenact the coffee scenes from Black Hawk Down "It's all in the grind son"

  • This guy looks like the people at the Sexual Offender Office made him do this as a public service.

  • fuck this

  • How come you don't stir the coffee grounds at the bottom?

  • i love this guy, so funny

  • This guy reminds me of Bobby Jindal.

  • Is a French Press better than espresso?

  • @ChocolatePoop1301 Actually they're simply different extraction methods, so it depends how you enjoy coffee. Espresso is generally more intense, due to short extraction, under pressure with fine grinds, whereas FP is a coarser grind, no pressure and longer steep time. Some coffees, depending upon their roast, have characteristics that work better in one method vs. another, but it's much like artisan wine or beer, different processes lead to different experiences and it's fun to try them all.

  • fat ass

  • Okay first off: you zeroed your scale with the press part still on the machine, does that weigh nothing?

Secondly: Microwaving water leads to a much poorer taste, you (just like with a green tea) want to bring the water to a boil then let it reach the tempature. 1-2mins post boil for coffee, 5 for green tea. Microwaves just don't boil waterright.

NEVER USE A METAL SPOON YOU WILL BREAK YOUR PRESS! Wooden or plastic!

  • @battyone Zero the scale with the press on it so you weigh only the grounds put in the press. Zero before and you must account for the weight of the press as well as the coffee - just simplifying numbers. And though we haven't cracked one yet with the metal spoon, if you're an aggressive stirrer...agreed, go with the plastic. Thanks for watching.

  • @battyone I know! These were literally the three things i noticed. Despite that, this video is maybe the most accurate and helpful video for first time french pressers i've found on youtube, next to a more obscure coffeegeek vid.

  • hes high as a fucking kite!!!!!!!....oh-woooooooooow...lol,lol,lol

  • @monica32100 thx 4 that - omg, can't stop laughing!

  • simple, my ass! nobody is gonna want to go through all that work to make coffee every morning. this is more of a hobby, or only on occasion kind of thing.

  • @teddy198820 I do. It's minimal work. While it's steeping, I get dressed. It takes a grand total of 6-7 minutes to make, including heating the water and grinding the beans.

It saves the use of a paper filter. My wife gets her coffee at work, and I don't drink more than a cup or two. It makes no sense to waste a paper filter on a small amount of coffee for myself.

  • @parrothead2581 I make my coffee in the morning with about 30 seconds of work. I only drink one or two cups too so I just use a single serve coffee maker with a reusable filter so I don't waste any paper either.

  • @teddy198820 I bought my press years ago for maybe $15. I haven't seen many single serve makers (i.e. Keurig) for less than $70. You still have to purchase pods (plastic trash) or the filter insert for standard coffee. I only need to buy coffee, which I get in bulk at Costco.

I find the french press makes an excellent cup of coffee, much better than drip. Just my opinion.

  • @parrothead2581 I got my single serve coffee maker from my dad who bought it like 15 years ago = free. and no I do not have to purchase pods, like I said, it's reusable = free. I only need to buy coffee. no waste.

I prefer folgers , in my opinion, the best combination of cheap, flavorful, and quality coffee.

  • @parrothead2581 I believe Teddy was referring to all the weighing and measuring and being exact with the temperature. That can be rather much just to make one or two cups of coffee with a press pot. Not many people are going to be that anal about details in the morning I think. ; )

  • What difference does it make to your cup to stir after 1 minute rather than right away ?

  • @klarinetta thanks for the question. The timing isn't as critical, just allows the exposed surface of the grinds to get to temperature and then stirring distributes the temp and exposure to all the grounds. However, we do find that it gives you a moment to grab a slice of cake.

  • Heard about this on NPR that would "teach" you how to use that French press. They say it really makes the flavor "more intense."

  • Are they trying to come off as rich snobs or is that all by accident?

  • I love how wooden this guy is. He's a horrible actor. Oh, the gestures!

  • This guy is BEYOND ANNOYING.

  • "or da stove top" @0:20

  • this man seems to be on a serious coffee buzz.

  • It's really the best and simplest way to brew, I have never gone back to those shity automatic makers.

  • God knows i love french press coffe

  • I own a French press and a moka pot. I find that coffee made in a french press is milder than that made in a moka pot (which is probably because of the high pressure hot water that is used to extract coffee/espresso in a moka pot).

This is a great video! I'll follow your instructions and make some great coffee tomorrow!

  • This is a very good video of the correct way to make press pot coffee. If you feel the need to put salt in your coffee something is most likely wrong with your coffee. Well I suppose somewhere someone thinks it's a good idea to put pickle juice in there too. Some people put sugar in the ragu, oh well.... and sugar in the cornbread, don't get me started.

  • you don't need exact measurements, it's not high school chemistry. Just eyeball it. 2 rounded tablespoons per cup and add enough water for 2 cups, not rocket science. I add a bit of cinnamon and sometimes other spices like nutmeg to the cup. Also some salt, which he missed. Salt enhances the flavors and gets rid of any bitterness.

  • @1too3fore Actually, we didn't miss the salt. If you have to use salt, you might consider a coffee switch. Shouldn't need this kind of help...like adding sugar to wine to remove dryness vs selecting a sweeter variety. Nothing against flavoring your beverage of course, but there are so many flavors available - which is why good micro roasters have many origins and blends choices... to match your palate. Regardless, we love that you love coffee no matter how you enjoy it. Thx.

  • @ParisiCoffee Yes, but with salt you can match the flavor of expensive beans giving you greater bang for the bucks. Salt enhances all cooking flavors and it doesn't take but a few grains to a cup of coffee. So instead of spending $10 or more per pound of coffee, one can spend less than $7.

  • after i make the coffee can i put in milk lol sorry like my first time making coffee .

  • @tanjotdk sure, you might need to experiment with the coffee roasts you use. FP is a great way to get flavor, but if the bean or the roast is too weak it may not cut through milk as well. Best thing is that with this method, you can experiment with many types of coffee until you find the right one for you. Thx for the post.

  • @tanjotdk Actually, I make my coffee with milk instead of water. Usually 1% milk and nuke for a little over 2 minutes (depends on your microwave). Pour over coffee in French Press. Follow the rest: stir after 1 minute, time 3 more minutes. Sometimes shake in cinnamon, etc before pressing. Often add hazelnut flavored creamer, etc. before pressing. Guess using milk makes it more like latte.

  • I love you baby!!!

  • Comment removed

  • lol

  • i want some coffee right now....

  • this is WAY to drawn out...but i do think that coffee made with a french press is better that coffee from a drip-pot.

  • Oh no! I don't have a triple-beam balance to zero out the weight of my french press. I guess I cannot make coffee according to this guy.

  • @stigmata420 Wrong. He said you can measure with the scoop, you idiot.

  • You could always go get a PhD in physics and then set up a lab with all the needed equipment, just make sure the ingredients are approved by the EPA first.

  • Super helpful...thanks.

  • hahaha that guy made my day....Just soooo overdone...^^

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA FABOOLOOS COFFEE

  • this still doesnt fuckin show me where to put the beans exactly

  • @kettlebellconvert - the beans need to first be ground, so they'll go into a grinder...either at your local store or ideally at home in your own grinder right before you prepare to make the press. Once ground, you just pour in the beans..(at about :55 in the video)

  • @ParisiCoffee

yea thanks, i got that now, had to watch it a few times, likely because im detail-retarded.

i have to say, having finally figured it out, i have a BUNCH of coffee making methods, and the french press is the best one.

    anyway, thanks.

  • @kettlebellconvert lol, idiot

  • It's to mathY....can it be simple and more....more non-math?

  • I just got one of these to make tea.. I love it!! it works so much better then a tea ball. im going to try it tomorrow for my morning coffee as well.. these things are great!

  • I was always taught to cap the pot right after putting in the water.

  • is it okay if i replaced hot water with milk??

  • There are likely some boiled coffee recipes out there that include milk in the process, but certainly don't recommend replacement here. Unless you want coffee flavored milk instead of good coffee.

  • For grinding beans at home for use with a press, do you recommend burr or blade grinders?

  • A burr grinder produces a more even grind and good Press is all about good surface area. If using a blade, pay close attention to the evenness, you may need to do smaller batches to get a consistent grind. Thanks for watching.

  • Why would you stir the hot water as you did at 1:43

  • Stirring the water simply distributes the heat evenly before for doing a temp check. Not absolutely necessary, but helpful depending upon the quality of your heat source.

  • "Now that's a great cup of coffee"

    Haha, i love that! :)

  • Great presentation! Thank you, Jeff.

  • U should remove the white foam on top aswell, sins that is 100% bitter and is crap. remove it and u will make the coffy taste 50% better!

  • I'm going to need some bar graphs to prove this 50% theory.

  • i can draw u a grap i u wana, or u can just try and do it and taste for your self

  • lolwut

  • I love sumatran coffee in my press. tastes so much better than in a regular drip maker

  • i like how this man speaks, he doesnt sound like hes talking to a bunch of 5 year olds and he doesnt sound like a robot, he seems really natural and happy

  • my friend has a bodum french press and we make ethiopian yirgacheffe.....i damn near nut my pants every time its so good

  • Totally agree, our EY roast is great in the press too.

  • you mean your press makes good ey?
