ehh, these lyrics are actually amazing, really Ursula...but...ah I dunno I don't like the tune XD, it's too comic for the Ursula I love. Just my opinion.
I agree. She isn't a brassy quirky, kind of villain. She's like the evil queen or Maleficent... Glamorous. This is too... It's almost something Jimmy Durante would sing...
@TaylorMarita Given that their father is Poseidon, I chalk it up to the fact that this is based off of mythology. I mean, why does anything really happen in Greek mythology? Gods being born out of body parts and crazy stuff like that happens on a regular basis.
But, if you want a plausible-ish answer, she may not have originally been an octopus. She dabbles in dark magick .. so who knows what happened. Spell gone wrong, maybe?
We can all relate to this song but we don't all have wicked intentions. Plus Flotsam and Jetsam's solos make it sound delightful like the "good times" I would like to re-live.
I love this son. It's interesting. The villain never really thinks they're evil, and this song is a perfect description of that. I love how Ursula has dreams of her own, and uses evil words to describe it, but never really means them in the way we would think they are being used.
If I had to redo this production, I would have looked for a woman with a contralto/low alto voice and a gospel background. A nice, big girl with a healthy vibrato from Harlem's choirs would have been more fitting for Ursula. With any lluck, I'd have a G-rated version of Mama Morton :)
I am not sure that this was the best choice. Ursula was originally written as a contralto (lowest female range) for a reason: a hint of vampishness, sexiness, a woman who's not afraid to get naughty.
I understand that Ursula from the movie version is fat and huge and that the stage version of her is skinny and her tentacles are huge and she is also skinny-looking.
but the broadway version is full of adult humor-yeah, little kids watch the musical, but they shouldn't know what it means, so they won't repeat it. We did this song 4 my middle school musical and i dunno wat we did!
@broadwaydude2378 oh come on, disney uses bad words all the time. they just do it so you feel it. like the villans in sleepy beauty and hunchback use HELL.
They originally out it in the movie that they were brother and sister in the film but decided to cut it out (so it says on the deleted scenes on the special edition DVD)
No thats not true whatsoever in the first movie of little mermaid she talks about when she use to live in the palace (Kingdom)she doesnt really tell us there brother-sister but she was and did live there. Watch the movie.
they are brother and sister, the people who made the movie planned it from the start, but they accidently forgot to put it in the script and by the time they realized, it was too late to add it in. (or somthng like that)
They were tryng to decide to make them brother and sister or make her his old lover-they never decided and wrote the script around it, then realized they didn't need either
They are. Fun fact: Triton and Ursula's father was Poseidon, God of the Sea in Greek literature. I believe it says so in the original versions of 'Fathoms Below' and 'Poor Unfortunate souls'.
This song...it isn't URSULA. This lady, talented, yes she is! Ursulaesque? Not so much for me. *Shrugs* It's not that she did really bad or anything. It's just my opinion.

All the Broadway Ursulas rock, but I like the original Ursula from the original film the best!

The Ursula in the musical looks more like Morgana, don't you guys think ?
Aleu 1 year ago
@Aleu I thought that as well. Maybe she was easier to re-create than Ursula.

so wait, if she got half the sea from her father what does that make Ursula to Triton? Do they explain it more in the musical?
