The Open Door didn't have the "edge" that Fallen had because it was a different style for Amy and Evanescence, and a new lifestyle they were living. [Hence the name "The Open Door"]
Amy has said in interview after interview that TOD was a song about happiness, and Lithium was even a song about happiness.
Fallen was an album that Amy had written with Ben about the hardships in their lives, and now that Amy feels happier, she has gone with a happier style of music.
Amen. I wouldn't WANT her to right another Fallen, because it would mean she's still in the same dark place. I'm glad she's happy. Even more, I hope the third album is nothing but sunshine and rainbows, I shit you not!
That would be a disgrace to Evanescence history...an album about sunshine and rainbows. As a matter of fact I was just having this conversation with another one of my Evanescence fan friends over messanger the other day. We both wonder what the next album will be like. I made the comment that I don't think Evanescence can really get much better. I have no idea what else they can do. But you know Amy..always got so much talent and so many ideas to back that talent up.
I was under the impression from interviews that there's not a lot of darkness left in her life. I think people underestimate just how happy her husband has made her. I have this image of her trying to write a third album, keep it dark and epic like Ev is known for, but she's got nothing left like that. Then one day, her husband comes home and finds her ready to smash her own hand with a hammer so she'll have some pain to write about. She screams at him, "You've made me too damn happy!"
I don't see how Ev has gone "mainstream." TOD took a lot of risks musically, was totally different from Fallen, and pushed away a lot of fans who were expecting another Fallen. That doesn't sound mainstream at all.
Evanescence solos never sound th same because thay don't want to. Whisper's, Going Under's and Haunted's never sounded the same...It has nothing to do with the guitarists...
amy kicked ass with that song!

the open door was a bit of a disappointment for me. i loved the "torment" and the edge to fallen way better.
but im still a true fan and luv amy's music ...hopefully the next record will bring back that edge.

Moody is what gave Evanescence the rock edge.. now that he's gone.. its just Amy's way to vent essentially
FearsReleased 4 years ago
actualy (i can be making a mistake obviously)
but i belive i read that it was moody the one
pushing evanescence to a more "popular" area
nikolas27 4 years ago
Lol, perhaps you heard that, but explain how The Open Door doesn't have as much "edge" as Fallen?
FearsReleased 4 years ago
maybe with the fact that
beautiful things have happened to her
so she may be not tormented anymore...
aint that a good reason?
nikolas27 4 years ago
Sure. I guess.
Unless you want to blame Moody for them "heading towards mainstream" even after he has left and Evanescence has still gone that way.

i just told you what i read and i acted on a very open minded way.. i didnt blame i just quoted
nikolas27 4 years ago
Lol, I wasn't accusing you of anything. Just pointing out what you said.
Don't get me wrong, I love Evanescence still, but it's not the same =P
FearsReleased 4 years ago
yeah its ok
i love evanescence too...
but i think that amy is not that tormented mind anymore :(
LOL that should be great for her...
but sucks for us fans

This must be at the end of the concert. her voice is so tired. You can hear her straining to reach the notes. Still a nice vid tho
