  • This is an awesome song! But can anyone tell me how this song is racist? To me it's not racist at all.

  • When I was in Afganastan I had more black men in my unit from the south than white or hispanic or asian. This song, includeing Sweet Home Alabama made life much easier for us all. Those are just a couple songs that made us more determined to get out alive and back home. God Bless the USA and GOD BLESS THE SOUTH!!!

    Sgt R USMC

    1994-2008

    Semper Fi

  • So uhh, where's the so called racist part at? I can't seem to find it.

  • @Shewashisfriend cant find it in the song!!!! but, in the comments !!!!!

  • I'm from Boston, and I like this song..the Civil War ended 147 years ago...I was born only 39 years ago :)...I've only ever thought of myself as a proud AMERICAN girl. It's a beautiful country...in EVERY direction. GOD BLESS THE USA!

  • Yall r stupid if u think its racist.i grew up on songs like this.b4 u jump to conclusions get ur facts first.

  • those 34 people are obviously not american

  • @xslayerofevilx Yea or they think were just a bunch of hillbilly's !!!

BORN COUNTRY AND WILL ALWAYS BE :)

  • i love this song a whole lot c[x and the song is not racist .'-:o_o:-'.

  • cuz black ppl picked cotton a long time ago. thats how someone could think this was racist.. only if they too were a racist pig! i dont even know how i figured that out.

  • anyone who thinks this is racist needs a history leason!!!!!

  • How is it racist?

  • theres nothing wrong with the song it rocks

  • Well, I had never even heard of people thinking this song was in any way racist until I clicked on this vid. Stupid people have a way of ruining everything.

  • This song has nothing to do with racism. It's about the depression and how it affected southern farmers. Black people weren't picking cotton, they (what I presume are poor white farmers) were, just trying to make enough money to get by. the line Southern Democrat has nothing to do with racism either. Racism was rampant back then through all political parties. It was the 30s and 40s -_-

  • @crazzynascarfan less than 1% of southern farmers owned slaves.

Did you know that New York City was built from slavery?

  • I always thought this went, SONG SONG OF THE SOUTH SWEET POTATO PIE AND IT BURNT MY MOUTH.... lol I wasn't a very observant child. haha. It doesnt even sound like BURNT MY MOUTH.

  • @gratefultobehere doesn't matter tho, it's still a good song =)

  • The problem comes in what was written into the lyrics. "Daddy was a Southern Democrat, They ought to get a rich man to vote like that."

Perhaps Alabama did or didn't know that "Southern Democrats" at the time of the depression were highly conservative (read racist) and anti-civil rights laws.

Hopefully they wrote the song with Southern Democrat Jimmy Carter in mind who had recently left office at the time of the songs release.

Otherwise they want the rich man to vote segregation

  • I'm liberal, and I say this is a GREAT song! Catchy tune and a great story about life in the South during the early 20th century.

  • cotton on the roadside cotton in the ditch, pick that cotton u black son bitch!!! White Pride!!

  • @macaylajimenez143 Life to too short to go it full of hate.

Too bad you are proof of the phrase "You can't fix stupid"

  • This song makes me proud to be from the South! It aint racist. like sarge958 said its the way that a black person acts. I don't like niggers at all.But i respect the black man who keeps his pants up and works hard and respects others. God Bless Dixie!!

  • OMFG THIS IS A GOOD SONG AND STOP FUCKING CALLING IT A RACIST SONG CUNT HEADS!!!!!!

  • This song is About the great Depression. All you people that made this into a Raceist song need to shoot your self's with a nail gun. Get your Fucking facts straight befor you start singing a song you know nothing about.

  • We listened to this song today becuz were learning about the great depression

  • where can i find the racist version

  • @mrdeathlord011 i think youtube removed it :( i had the link

  • Song, song of the south Whipping Nigger Ass and burn it out

Song song of the wind ain't no nigger looking back again

  • rebel by choice, southern by the grace of god

  • I just think it's funny that my Dad and his brother and sister had to do this only 40-50 years ago just to make it, just like the song described. Yet in some poeples eyes, it means they were rich white people making the black man do the work. Come on. That is a huge difference between reality and perception. And people wonder why this country has gone to hell. No one wants to do what's necessary, it's too easy to blame someone else! That's what it's about now days!

  • You idiots are more racists than we are, just for thinking that these are racists sentiments, when in reality, they are talking about their (White people! gasp!) upbringing. Sorry, but the victim card is played out. Please find another excuse.

  • Lmao @ stupid fuckers thinking this is racist! Lmao! You know, my 100% white ass Dad picked cotton back in the 50's and 60's to help his family make a living. Never mind that he was white and it involved him picking cotton, so it MUST be racist!!!! LMAO!!! You people are just ignorant, and have no idea what you are talking about.

  • I absoultely love this song!!!!!

  • This song is about workin' hard and getting by when times are tough. As our economy continue to fail many Americans use songs like these to stay motivated. Stop being jerks and appreciate this great song.

  • Sons, song of the South. Whip a nigger's ass and burn his house. Gone, gone with the wind, nigger ain't never talkin' back again!

  • Then ur not southern ur just a city prick

  • @bhs137 hey buddy fuck you we from the south know that and we we dont all shoot guns and drink beer numbnuts so fuck off

  • Comment removed

  • @simonbaby96 dear God you are ignorant of history.

  • State Rights is what the Confederacy fought for. When the Union tried to involve itself with the rights of the southern states, THAT is what let led to the Civil War.

All we ask is to be let Alone- Jefferson Davis.

  • @hoosierredneck1

What the hell your wrong it was to fought for slavery thats the only reason why they succed from the union and also explain why west virigina also succed from virigina so yeah theres some things mess up in your head.

  • wait if it wasn't about slavery then what was it the south fought for

  • @lollipop22713 We fought for what we believed in

  • This is what the song is about. It's about times like now. It talks about a family losing everything they own in a poor economy, but were too poor to notice much of a difference. Singing about how times have changed and it's time to move on and pray the president will save the country. Also, singing about how those special things helps him forget the hard times. People read into things too much. This ought to be the theme sound for Occupy Wallstreet. The people of the US are living this song.

  • There was just as many sadistic racist bastards in the north as there were in The South.

  • Ok, I've already commented, but let me say that the South has their own view on what the Civil War was fought for, and the North has their own. But really, this is a song about growing up in hard times and then making it, Randy Owen sang it because of his hard childhood then making it big as an adult. It's a song about the American dream, not about Blacks, Whites, Racism, Slavery or the Civil War. So shut UP!

  • im proud to solute both flags. im a patriot and i aint the most rebelious person but i know where i come from and ps south rules.

  • i dont know y people make a big deal about people flying the confederate flag there just celebrating there heritage so suck it up and shut up

  • just listen to the song

    ENOUGH with the racist bullshit

  • that was to hatchett

  • the civil war was about secession idiot

  • @german11945 yes, and the main reason for secession was the protection of slavery...

  • @HatchettBasketball no, so the fed could sue the states when they try to protect the u.s. borders, like they tried in Texas and Arizona, or how the people can't have self-determination in states where the governors try to keep their constituents rights to their own paychecks and not to pay for advanced and technical degree educations for foreign people who do not share any same customs, languages, folkways, history, historical oral traditions and so on, from the Warfare-Welfare Statist life

  • @westchesterny The Obama administration is a little different from the Lincoln administration...

  • The needs/wants of the Southern people was for the federal govt to stay out of their affairs so they could continue slavery and revitalize the slave trade. Their economy, society, and culture was based on slavery. The Civil War was about slavery. You should read the state secession convention papers of all Deep South states - they didn't hide the fact that slavery was the main issue for secession.

  • i wish mr roosevelt could save us from this version of wall street.......

  • coprnhagen song

  • 14/88

  • Ok, people need to cut the racist shit. I love this song and i love this group, but people who go in the internet saying shit like "fuck niggerswildhog568 2 weeks ago" need to stop being fucking douches bags, because the "niggers" you don't like can probably kick your ass, and I am gonna say that if you don't like them, it probably means your just self conscious of yourself. So just shut the fuck up. I'm white, and i love America, so do they. And they aren't Afican Americans, they're AMERICANS!

  • Love this song my buddy did a remix to it funny as hell yee haw

  • Love this song yee haw my buddy did a remix to this song was funny as hell

  • I am from Oregon

and i love some old country songs

i cant even watch an inncoent video without

some idiot posting very racist remark

  • country boy by heart and always will be dont assume these things because were southern we work harder than any fat white american would ever be willing to do

  • I love this song... reminds me of childhood in the country. How could anyone think it is racist? There is not even a mention of race!

  • @eurasianchica there is a racest remix......

  • @ladybug1762 where can i find it ?

  • @redneckluke100 i will send u the link...

  • @eurasianchica yeah your right so everbody who thinks is racist shut up

  • @eurasianchica its cuz of the cotton

  • @kroganeye cause they say they all picked it.

and everybody in the bands white.

    haha.

  • @KILLYOSELF666 i know that but thats why people think it is racist.

  • fuck niggers

  • This is my first time listening to this song (22 yr old from Minnesota) Would someone explain how this song is even construed as racist? I couldn't pick up on it in the lyrics. Would someone please explain? Thank you.

  • theres a difference between blacks and niggers..... niggers shoot people, deal drugs, sag there pants. black people are just like white people. all "niggers" needa die

  • @poopymanification You realize that you're part of the problem, right? It's people like you that make the rest of us look stupid. Would Thomas Jackson or Robert Lee mouth off like that publicly? No. They were educated and articulate and gentlemanly. Pick up a book before you start calling on people to throw stones -- or does your part of the south read a different bible?

  • @Bobby3OOO funny fact i used to know someone who was related to Lee.

  • Listen...there are niggers in this world(lots),but not all blacks are niggers. Get over it. Stop calling EVERY black person you see a nigger. It ain't about their skin color,it's about how they act.

  • @sarge958 your fucking right, finally its about how those negros act.. as long as they aint suckin thier fingers eatin watermelon or saying cuz.. they cool with me,

  • @sarge958 OMG THANK YOU!! Finally somebody said it correctly!

  • @sarge958 that there nigger done stole my whip

  • everyone type on youtube: morgan freeman on black history month or morgan freeman on racism...maybe that'll get people to stop talking about it...

  • I think you should all shut up open your eyes see theres more than just raceism in the world. North, south, east, and west dont matter what color you are where all human. Shut up and enjoy the damn song!!!!

  • Why are all you IDIOTS throwing out the race card? IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT DON'T LISTEN TO IT!!!

  • I am a daughter of the south, a child of GOD.. and and i am NOT a godawm racist!!!

  • I've seen the music video to this once. My mom told me that my grandpa (her dad) dropped out of school in the 6th grade and went to Oklahoma to pick cotton (that would've been about 1948).

  • cant stop replaying this song!!

  • Takes alot of talent to make a song with the song title "song of the south" and have it stick to each and every person there. these guys have impecable talent

  • only bad part of this song is the FDR references

  • i heard this song is racist and it is racist against rich people

  • @ChrisBaltimore81 ha i have to agree, but its an amazing song

  • I hope my neighbors like this song <3!!

  • FUCK ALL NIGGERS! WHITE POWERR!!!!!!

Now that I have your attention, not all southerners are racist assholes like you would think.

  • @mrmandinga5 Lol cleavor. Yeah it's true. There are actually more racist people in the north than the south. People that fly confederate flags usually aren't racist but they care about their heritage. The civil war wasn't about slavery or racism it was about people wanting to live the way they wanted to live and Abraham Lincoln didn't hear the needs/wants of people in the south.

  • @SilenceSlayer224 how do you know there are more racist people in the north than in the south????

  • @SilenceSlayer224 There is racist everywhere and north or south dont matter i'm just glad that i'm not one of them

  • @SilenceSlayer224 Abraham Lincoln was the third greatest president we've ever had!

  • @SilenceSlayer224 Really? Because the original seven states (Deep South) seceded before he was inagurated. Why? Well, it was because the Republican Party was anti-slavery. The South, who had ruled Presidency for years, could not handle both legislative and executive pressure on slavery. They practically gave up, screwing over half the country in the process. Lincoln, who did not believe in racial equality and would never had freed the slaves did so to end the South - a society based slavery.

  • @SilenceSlayer224 That's why the south wanted to leave the union, Because Abraham didn't want to listen to what we needed and wanted but people kept on saying it's about slavery and racism Clueless I say

  • Our great confederation will rise again.

  • @LolonMatinez No it won't. USA!!!!

  • i do really hate it when people think that southerners are racist, or dumb, or.. hicks. all these yankees need to come down here BEFORE they judge us.

  • I agree with you texanbabygirl1 people need to learn how things are before they try to judge others.

  • @texanbabygirl1 Hell yeah! Couldn't have said it better myself. I was raised in the South, I'm no idiot (wouldn't have graduated top 10 and gotten into some kick ass colleges if I was), and some of my best friends were all different races. I may have a redneck side, but it takes someone picking a fight to bring it out in me lol.

  • I Am Proud To Be Southern But I'm Not Racist. I'm even racist to my own race at times ''Stupid White Boy'' Just Kidding Every Race Has Problems It's not their color it's their personality.

  • Home boy

  • A QUALIDADE PESSIMA NAO DEIXA LER DIREITO A LETRA, É, ACHO QUE TENHO QUE APRENDER O IDIOMA

  • hahaaa i love how people cant just listen to great music. there always has to be controversy and haters :P Alabama is amazinggg :))))

  • Let me explain the Confederate flag like this: It's not Southerners saying that slavery is okay or that they're okay with racism, it's saying that we believe in our freedom (Civil war was over states' rights, folks.) and our ability to fight for that freedom. That being said, I'm from Texas, love the South, and I'm not racist at all.

  • i am from minnesota but have moved down to north carolina and i have fa;;en in love with the south, i have learned so much and i am in the process of becoming southern, i love evrything about the south, i will say alot of them are racist and i wasnt until i moved down there and got around everyone, but still i love the south and i have learned so much and i love the south, i even know the history of the flag, and i cant wait until i can call myself southern.

  • for all the idiots sayin that people who live in the south are racist..fuck you..i live in Tennessee.and noone in my family is racist nor do i kno any racist people..you want say that southerners are stereotyping other races..well get this..if you think we are racist and sayin that we stereotyping.then you are doin the same thing you damn idiots.so fuck you guys..im not a big country music fan at all,but when some dumbasses from up north think they are better then other Americans..then fuck you.

  • Why do people have to criticize southern people just because what supposedly happened back in like the 1800's? This is 2011 and America still beats the shit out of itself because we all can't get along and make peace. Sure its different with other countries, but we're America-AMERICA people! Its rep like this that other countries frown upon(Not saying other countries are bad). Always be proud of where you came from-N-S-E-W. God bless USA.

  • @crapvisionstudios Seriously. When we're showing pride for who we are you have people saying the Civil War is over and you lost. We never said anything about the Civil War. That was the close minded idiot. We have the right to be proud of where we come from.

  • i love this song makes me cry its so a true song about the south

  • Comment removed

  • Great song, bad description

  • im black and i cant stop singing this to myself :)

  • grow up people comment about the song or music.

  • Guess what. I KNOW these guys. I live in Fort Payne, Randy Owen lives DOWN THE STREET from me, and Teddy gave me signed guitar they used on their Farewell Tour

  • @BassBeatsMaster01 want a cookie? there's no prize for knowing famous people.

  • and you think racism is bad in the south come to western pennsylvania. its like the north of the south. yall who are from up here know exactly what im talkin about

  • where i live weve been in a 60 year depression since all the steel mills closed, recession didnt mean shit here just ment more stuff for yuppies to bitch about on the news

  • we need to do whats right and that's end racism i was raised in the south on a horse and cattle farm and let me say im damn proud of it my dad was always singing this song. and let me tell u something ITS HERITAGE NOT HATE!!! im white and im not racist. IM A PROUD SOUTHERNER AND AMERICAN

  • I don't see the racism. >_>

OMG THEY MENTIONED COTTON. Like white people aren't capable of picking that.

  • i was born and raised in alabama and i currently live in virginia. their is just as many racist up north as their is in the south people jus like to stereotype southerners their are racist all over the world just because im from alabama and I am white doesnt make me racist and this song is clearly about the great depression not black people. the confederate flag is not racist i have one on my truck and one on my house it shows how much i love the south

  • @MrGamesVideos I got one on the end of my sawed-off shotgun so all the mailbox burners see it right before the salt hits them lol

  • i like this song im not racist either lets just enjoy the song when i was young i really liked this song i would sing to it so plz lets just enjoy this song

  • Wow. I pretty much always knew this song was about the Depression, but after going through AP US History this past year, I get so much more stuff in the song now (such as what the "TVA" is).

    =D

  • I just want to say i was bred born and raised in the south on a farm and damn proud of it.. But that dont make us or this song racist. Just because we are southerners and proud of it dont mean shit. We are proud of heritage and our flag yes but that is just our way of life. Most of us are laid back and easy to get along with.

  • @fatkern1 Please use proper grammar when representing the south. Most of America believes that the south is full of redneck, uneducated, moronic hillbillies. It's not "Just because we are southerners and proud of it DON'T mean shit." It's "doesn't" or "does not." "Don't" becomes "Do not." -.-;;

Poor representation will continue to escalate such stereotypes.

  • how is this racist i like this song god ppl quit saying its racist!

  • i hate all the bullshit people say oh ur from the south ur racist. i ain''t racist at all we all are just tired of all the drama everyone starts we all have are different views in life. But the real stupid people is the ones who act on their actions. Those are the ones who don't know how to act.

  • i hate all the bullshit people say oh ur from the south ur racist. i ain''t racist at all we all are just tired of all the drama everyone starts

  • Not sure what's going on with all the racist comments, but I'm an African American female and I LOVE LOVE Country music as well as Down Home Blues! I also live in the south (Louisiana) and I know that racism is alive and well no matter how successful or poor you are. Skin color still makes some feel superior and others feel inferior. Nevertheless, the only race that matters to GOD is the HUMAN RACE! I believe the world would be a better place if more people realized this simple fact!

  • @msallflavas amen

  • @msallflavas AMEN!! :D "red, yellow black, and white, we're all precious in His sight!" :D

  • @msallflavas AMEN!! :D "red, yellow black, and white, we're all precious in His sight!" :D

  • @msallflavas AMEN! lol

  • @msallflavas majority of racism is from black people now-a-days.

  • @msallflavas

Illuminati took my mind/soul/ and body ...sound familiar? ...these kids have been bread to hate -- but your words gave me hope msallfavas -- Cultural differances aside -- you all need to come together - we are nearing a time of hurt....Alabama is Soulful music.

  • @msallflavas amen we are all the same Live on our southern roots

  • @msallflavas Finally someone says somthang smart on this video

  • @msallflavas i am a white male from the north (Minnesota)... our appearance couldnt be any more opposite; but you are exactly right.. good to see that not everybody is close minded!

  • @msallflavas GOD BLESS YOU

  • @msallflavas I completely agree with you, " sister "..matter of fact, i just wrote a song =)

Gonna buy me a rope and lynch me a nigger!!

  • @lambovsatan225 what?

  • @TheLizzy932 i was being sarcastic o.o... were YOU being sarcastic? ..cause i can throw sarcasm like a knicks pitcher but i can't get it :s ....

  • @lambovsatan225 o.o my sister was using my laptop and she removed thee comment................im not sure if she was sarcastic what did she say?

  • @TheLizzy932 ahh .. i think.. now that is raciast.. she has bad spelling o.o

  • @lambovsatan225 shes 8 lolz

  • @TheLizzy932 ...excuses.. u_u...

  • @msallflavas yea umm it aint just whites being racist to blacks and mexicans its niggers and spicks being racist to whites too rember that there is and always will be racism its a sad fact of life

  • @Mrblaze0505 You just sounded more racist than the common racism, congrats.....

  • @msallflavas yes so true

  • @msallflavas I totally agree ma'am. A couple kids from another school flew the confederate flag at our school at lunch, and because we are "associated with them" because we are rednecks every african american at our school wants to kill us, tires are gettin slashed, trucks keyed, fights, rumors that lead to us being suspended, campus supervision sits outside our classes now.. Its crazy.

  • "american by birth, Southern by the grace of god"

  • The south will rise again!

  • What's with all the comments about 200 year old issues of "being driven out of land?" Why are we still arguing about slavery?! Get over it and enjoy the damn song or find another video. People like you make me SICK. That's why I wish there was somewhere else I could move to where there are NO libtards, white guilt, or dumbasses. AND FYI, back in the day, the DEMOCRATS were the CONSERVATIVES. Learn some history! Read a book!

  • I live north nashville in what most would consider backwoods... I traveled a little and encountered far more racialism in the city than I ever heard or seen at home!! It is a wonderful way of life here in the south

  • I would love to leave the city and move to the country

  • i want this played at my burial it stands for what the south is not racialism but history heritage and love for your culture

  • Alright people, there is a difference between black people and niggers, just as there is a difference between white people and white trash. Niggers and white trash are low class, but color has nothing to do with class. There are some very sucessful blacks out there, just as there are whites.
