He's insanely corrupted and is being torn apart by the dragon soul that Thrall attacked him with. He's falling apart in his madness. From the start of Cataclysm the idea has always been that he is incredibly unstable. The cinematic starts with him getting his armor plates, and the expansion ends with us tearing them off. Those armor plates were literally holding him together. This fight makes perfect sense. Whether or not you like it is a different matter. I think it's epic.
