@reshuis No its not, the bottle need to be pressurized, conected to the hose and layed on its side. In that fashion the outlet pump tube thats inside the bottle is pointing downwards so it would be submerged until all the fuel is spent.
MSR liquid fuel stoves are by far the best stoved I have ever used. A few years back I was backpacking on the AT in the Roan Mountain area. At almost 0 F, my friends LP stove had no pressure. The MSR fired right up with about a minute of prime and saved the day! My whisperlight only had 2 setting lol, burn your food, or off. But for the reliability, i'll take it, and the dragonfly, which is on order right now!
MSR parent company cascade designs follows the same motto as the 90s ford motor co build unreliable products that break all the time so we keep getting profits from the spare parts sector. Want a real stove? Get an optimus nova period.
@maurigian1 Man! You're like a herpe on every msr video. You say the same old junk...short this, plastic that, get a omnova, blah blah blah. How's that Nova recall working for ya' ? You even wrote most of your stupid posts after the recall was announced. Shows your ignorance. I've been using MSR stoves for 20+ years in all conditions and have never had a problem. Havn't had a problem with other stoves either. Ever wonder if maybe it's the operator? Oh, and your survival bag is silly.
MSR should be sued for making this hazardous junk they call stoves. I nearly set myself ablaze with a new XGK with a faulty closing valve at the crappy plastic pump. All of this companies products are build to break on purpose so you can keep buying replacements, shame on this greedy company!
@HammockerSam the PR and similar stoves like the F1 by coleman can only be run on butane/propane. The benefit of the dragon fly then is its multi fuel capability, lets say you're like these guys on a road trip and you run out of but/proane, you're screwed! But but with the dragon you could always siphon off a small bit of fuel from your gas tank and use that.
@HammockerSam Fist usage of several liquid fuels you can get almost anywhere in the world. Burns better than cannister mixtures at high altitude and also has better stability than cannister stoves.. Cons are: greater weight, need more space and should be serviced at home from time to time. If fuel quality is not good enough or not maintained properly cloggin may occur. All in all a different type of stove.
@HammockerSam I am afraid alcohol stoves are quite a different kind of stove so comparing them would be unfair. But you are right about alcohol having lower heat output than white gas/gasoline/naphta/etc. If you actualy meant propane/cannister stoves, their heat output is similar to the liquid fuel stoves, but their performance gradualy decrease with altitude and freezing temperatures could render them unusable. But the election is normaly based on cannister availability on your trip.
I'm going camping this week. I cooked my oatmeal on it this morning and it was so easy to use. Just make sure that the intake in the take is facing down, otherwise the fuel flow won't work. Once i twisted the clip on the line over it was really simple and fast.
With white gas going through the roof, I'm considering this stove or the MSR XGK EX Multi-Fuel Stove. But since I only boil water, ramen noodles, coffee etc. I'm leaning towards the xgk. What would be a better complement to the whisperlite I already own? White gas is nice, but a pain to obcure.
ciambell you may not do the anual service kit for this stove and chek the troubleshooting section of the manual, to see what was wrong with your stove
Good day guys! hope you like Oz and got a lot of action out of your stove. Great demonstration and explanations and you can't beat the speed of these MSR stoves. Try a PotPal out to store all your Pots in - it's pretty handy!
One important feature of the Dragonfly that you don't cover (in terms of differences with other stoves) is the dual ajusting system... you've got a crank at the bottle and one directly at the jet - so that's supposed to give you better flame control. I wish you guys would have demonstrated that.
you have to change the "screw" at the bottom of the stove for the heavier fuels.
you could also mention that it is ideal to use white gas, since its the most volatile gas, any other heavier fuel will prematurely dirty the stove.
also, it's important to mention that the fuel line between the second adjustment and the stove auto cleanses itself every time you turn the adjustment. Also cool to mention the shaker jet, which cleans your stove just by shaking it!
we just watched ten crazy Japanese videos trying to understand this stove. thanks for showing all that up close footage of the priming. we are two stove novices about to embark a canada to mexico ride with this new stove. can't wait!
thanks for the review, I just picked one up for $10 at a garage sale, still had the price tag on (best garage sale deal ever), was looking for reviews, howtos and the manual when I stumbled on this, was most helpful, thanks

What is the advantage of this larger stove as compared to a smaller version such as a MSR Pocket Rocket or Crux?

@Mateyhv1 Thanks for the explanation! Would I be even close to correct to say that it's like a more-powerful alcohol stove?

I have had my for 9 years with no problems. I go to many tailgate partys.
lots of people say " best stove I ever saw".
And i have used it for winter camping in white Mts of New Hampshire.
I even use wind shield (not shown) on none windy days. controls heat that much better.
I also used it to fry up a bird!

poor quality review - doesnt explain how to use different fuels.

To utilize different "fuels", insert said "fuel" into approved "fuel" canister. Enjoy.
