I saw him live once in a small venue. One of my favourite musicians. He is very humble and soft-spoken and never trys to make himself the center of attention. After each song he would tell the audience the names of all the other musicians. Some songs he wasn't even the main musician, so most of the applause would go to another. He obviously loves playing more than anything.

If you want to improvise over the chords, just play around on the D major scale (F# phrygian mode). To add a little flavor, play the note A#/Bb instead of the expected A note when the progression gets to the F#major chord.
