actually the influence from Chrono Trigger is pretty apparent and distinguishable. I have an artist's eye, i can tell. It's no secret anyways. In my perspective, the menu screens, the font, the sprites are all resemble those in Chrono Trigger. Even some of the animations. Look at the way dood runs! That's Chrono! I'm not hating tho..i'm glad it looks like CT. I just wish they used a bit more frames of animation in their Character actions tho. CT got them beat on dat note.
This looks fun, the interaction betwee MP and the dark sword spirit or whatever that is reminds me in tinglingly fun way of the interactions betweem Ashley and Lord Blazer of Wild Arms 2 fame...is it too much to hope for a bit of henshin thrown into the mix here?
Oh, and that combat system too. Looks very much like Chrono Trigger, except the action select bars have been replaced with icons around the player.
...are you building a game based entirely off story? You have to have new, solid mechanics to back it up, otherwise it will feel like a clone. Your story doesn't look too strong, either (generic JRPG fare), so you might want to rethink how you're doing this.
Because this is such a small, no-name studio, I assumed the poster was a member of the development team.
Also, "Shut the fuck up please" is never a good response to a comment. Within the limited constraints of a comment, I attempted to provide a cautionary word about the highly derivative look-and-feel of the game. While my comment may have been better directed to the developer's message boards, I fail to see how my comments were non-constructive enough to warrant a "shut the fuck up".
I normally wouldn't respond with such an immature comment, but Black Sigil may have the look of Chrono Trigger but it is no clone and I grow tired of people saying it is. I'll admit the characters and the battle system resemble Chrono Trigger but there is no likeness in the environments as well as the story and game mechanics. The story is fine, how many of the best RPGs have a profound story?
While I certainly don't want to see a flame war here, you should probably know that your comments weren't constructive because they were mainly misinformed. If someone posts a Britney Spears video, you wouldn't assume that the user posting it is Spears herself would you? By that same note don't assume I'm a developer because I uploaded a trailer. Also nothing here is copied from Chrono Trigger. Yes it looks similar in some aspects, but that's it. Any concerns should be directed to the publisher.
Last time I checked, Square-Enix didn't invent Mode7 or sprites in general. Anyway, this was brought up on the developer's message boards, and their legal affairs guy said that all of their assets were done in house by them. Nothing was copied. I hope that answers your question.
Its not like chrono trigger or FF!
It reminds of "secret of mana 2", becouse of all those castle scenes and the battle mode 2:29

So, uh, did you try to make your tileset look exactly like Chrono Trigger's, or did you just copy and recolor them?
