Midway means in the Pacfic Ocean where the japanese sailer ships to battle the hawaii american U.S ship during the war in MIDWAY like battlefield 1943 or Call of Duty world at war

This mission shows something very interesting about naval warfare, especially with the transition from battleships to carriers being the most feared warships. True, carriers can launch large numbers of planes and are protected at all times by other ships, but if a battleship, especially one like the Yamato, were to shoot down the planes, fight through the escort, and come within firing range of a carrier... there'd be no doubt as to which ship was more powerful then.

@Jurassic0Al This mission denials history. Yamato, if we look at him in perspective of armour, is seriously overpowered. Any, i repeat, any kind of battleship will stand multiple hits with torpedoes and bombs ... But as I said, it's only entertainment, nothing else :)

PS. I agree with @DigitalPh33rson, it has never take part of any military mission on Pacific.

@Monty6622- Him?! This ship is a she. As they all are. The Yamato was as heavily armed and armored as any other battleship in history, and I don't see how you could ever have too much firepower. Yes, all battleships can take plenty of enemy fire, but the Yamato withstood abuse that would have disabled lesser ships much earlier.

Of course, the Yamato never went on a mission like this. Being destroyed by aircraft was hardly a worthy way for her to go.

dude wtf, the Bismarck sank the Hood, the pride of the english navy, and damaged the Prince of Wales pretty bad. and i wonder why the Bismarck sunk because, oh i dunno maybe there was 3 battleships, 4 or 5 heavy cruisers, two carriers tons of destroyers, battlecruisers and shit against her throughout the span of her voyage. so ya 1 kick-ass battleship vs half the british fleet, gee i wonder who will win. no offense to the Bismarck, she was the best battleship at her sinking.

Yamato Is the Largest and most heavily armed ship to this day and the idea of a massive vessal like this made the americans have a lot of caution

In fact the bb took 3 hours and over 150 planes to get on hit on the hull of the ship so even though carriers were used the Yamato could still stop any attack on it 3 hours it took to get one good hit on it so screw carriers the yamato is still better

Agreed. But I wouldn't put it that way. the US and the Soviet Union was stealing most of the Japanese War Technology. In fact, Japan had Cold War Era technology, during WW2. Japan lost because they didn't have the tactics to do so. That's all.

Actually they've realised that, and that's what is so ironic about them: Attack on Pearl Harbor was aimed at destroying mainly American carriers(which hadn't been there at the time) and was carried out by planes starting from Japanese carriers - At the same time Japanese wasted their limited resources to build two giant Battleships ( that didn't play much role in the war except of being the target)

but also when you turn broadside, you can fire your 5" flak guns too and the planes. And besides, a few torpedos won't hurt that much, just have your repair crews (all 3) on water. a few sec of damage. Nothing really

in the mission, you have to catch up to the carrier fleet, also the more time you spend fighting the ships, the more bombers they keep sending because they have unlimited.

Why do i have fellings that in such games real power of guns are rather heavy reduced ?

In 1942 no US ships (and especially destroyers) will survive single one hit from Yamato main guns.

Sometimes when i watch how its needed three or four salvos to sink a destroyer i start to think that there is something fishy here...

And about those side 155 m.m turret, this is not a devs idea but during Midway both BB (Yamato and Mushashi) have such turrets but later on they were removed (at least at Yamato).

In real life it would take 2 Iowa's to actually be sure the Yamato would go down, even a single Iowa would get destroyed if it went one on one with the yamatos.

@Qusza2007 The power of Yamato's main guns has to be reduced, otherwise the game would be boring and too easy. I saw the same problem while playing missions with "Fuso" class battlecruiser ... Sometimes Fletchers' survive 6-7 or more direct hits. But history maniacs should turn a blind eye :) Those are only games, they have to give entertainment, not lessons of naval history :)

If you turn your ships into right front edge formation after wave of US destroyers you'll make a wall of AA fire that will surely stop upcoming squadrons. Otherwise, I'm quite surprised that they didn't add any battleship that could make even a short fight with Yamato, delaying him in reaching carriers. This mission never happen, so Iowa, New York or even Prince of Wales could appear nearby. Otherwise this mission is at least too easy...

They made the Yamoto wrong on this game as it did not have the turrets either side of the superstructure, instead it was filled with AA batteries and short range artillery. This means that this is the sister ship!

i finished the 1st ship challenge w/o taking much damage. How u ask? well pretty easy, 1-make sure u know how too aim and hav GOOD accuracy otherwise let AI hit targets dat are far away, and hit targets dat r close enough urself (AI suks at hiting targets too close) 2- go on tactical map and make BB go north den west just barely by blu section 2- pound targets as u go long 3- once da 1st BB comes shoot at it manualy, goes for da rest of BB's

TO beat the second ship challege you fight severall waves of american ships then the CA comes out and fights. The Nachi has a tight firing arc so a secret is to fully use those crosshairs. Those are crucial to winning it.

i can beat the first mission. every time i beat it now. what i do is aim at the bow section of the ship then alot of damage happens sometimes killing up to a bb instantly.because it the powder magazine causing an explosion and thats how i beat the first ship challenge

At first, I cannot beat it also, but later, I discovered a way to win (maybe very stupid), is when last battleships appear, I just hide behind the island, and wait the yamashiro to fight the battleships for some time, after that I join the fight then I win.

I will admit they would fire less than two times a minute, but it would just feel better in game if when they fired, you damn well knew about it, and something big happened ever time those shells landed.

Those 18 inch guns just seem so weak in the game with the sound effects and muzzle flash being what they are.

The actually blast from an 18 inch gun was so great that you could deafen and even kill men on the deck. That's one reason why Yamato's AA was almost all turreted and why even then firing AA guns and main guns at the same time wasn't that advisable.

Propelling 13 tons of ordnance in one broadside = a hellish amount of noise and muzzle flash.
