I'm from Sheffiled, not Manchester but no matter..I see the Pete Townsend/Tea spoon gag has recently been rehashed as a Rebecca Adlinton swipe, by Frankie Boyle..the old ones are the best.eh?
mark miwurdz was a manchester poet and the first, as far as I know, who said that everyone in the world looks like Pete Townsend if they look into the back of a teaspoon - I owned his book once - what happened to that - or him - I do not know. Shame.
This is my favourite IW track. I lost my vinyl copy of "Seven Singles Deep" years ago, on which was the best version of WIACD. The 92 version on the greatest hits cd was disappointing.
Blood wonderful! McNabb sure knows how to pen [and deliver] a great rock song.. Mind you it helps having Sharrock on drums... Bought this on 7" vinyl when it came out.... Loved it then, love it now... Legendary! PS Agree about Andy Kershaw - someone with real character rather than the plastic people you see today... it is a disgrace how he has been treated by the BBC
@liverpoolshoes ...haha good shout..but wasnt mark mywurdz the main man for funky poertry/? on the tube....if not you had to wait for cooper clarke on granada reports .thursday nights, apart from that, listen to sharrock bein the best drummer of a generation, which is gettin back to my main point....craig charles............just listen to half man half biscuit instead
Superb performance as ever from Ian and the boys. Ian McNabb/The Icicle Works are amazing live - not to be missed. Shame there wasn't more of Perambulator on this clip - another fantastic song.
This TV performance was the reason we went to see the Icicle Works for the first time. They were awesome live, the best shows I have ever seen, mind you reading Merseybeast, I now Know why. It must piss Ian Mcnabb off big time to see someone like gallagher earning the money he does for just telling people he is good.
Fantastic song. McNabbs is an amazingly talented musician - look at the quality of guitar and singing on this. Good moves at the start from the crowd too :O)
What exactly are that lot doing behind Andy Kershaw at the intro to this? They look completely bizarre. There was seriously something wrong with people in the 80's.
incredible band, one of music's best kept secrets....here in the states at least, there is a greatest hits compilation which is absolutely stellar, pretty much the same tunes i would have picked. I don't believe the reasons they split up had anything to with their attire (this is freaking silly) the 'works were really more his back-up band more than anything the whole time...kind of like dire strais, maybe?
Trying to get to the bottom of why they split and why the other pair haven't reformed with Mcnabb. If you look at how differently they're dressed, you can maybe see some cracks appearing here.
Saw this band 5 times and they were tremendous every time. One of the best of the 80's and correct to say they were very underrated. The solo album McNabb did with Crazy Horse also has some superb tracks on it.
Wow, I thought I was the only person on the planet that taped this. I remember this show, it also featured Dr and the Medics. I've still got the video. Excellent, I loved this band.
They did a Radio 1 session back about then. Seven Horses, Assumed Sundown and Book Of Reason. Still got the audio tape. I'm sure I seen the video for All The Daughters on the Whistle Test. Any chance you might have that too? Thanks again for sharing this one though.
Faak, I can't believe this was so long ago. A look at this and his live stuff 20 years on (i.e today) and he still sounds fantastic, as in the new stuff of this moment is above itself. 20 years ago songs are about to catch up. Geniooous.
i was at this recording at shelleys, longton, stoke on trent. Icies played a storming set later in the evening. thanks for posting this vid. great memories.

Ian, bard of Liverpool for the 80/90s. I think that the "crazy horse" crew may be more slightly excited ponies on their day off/out.
