The beam is resulted because of the projectile slots not using the ice beam sprite data. Instead, they use the normal power beam sprite data, because the sprite data only updates when you get a powerup (or switch rooms), yet, the cheat does not update any sprite data, resulting in this beam. *everyone's head explodes*
