  • The American national anthem scene was genuinely laugh out loud for me! Really enjoyed this film, and Sam Neill gives a great understated performance too.

  • In my top 10 films, I can watch it again and again...duff trailer though!

  • I watched this movie in science at school and it was extremely boring

  • Great movie, our family watches it about once a year, my favourite quote is from Mayor Bob McIntyre: "My wife. She's the lemon" love using it whenever my wife wears anything yellow.

  • The only reason i like this is cause Lenkas in it.

  • i see a Lenka :O

  • Harry Shearer who plays Derek Smalls in Spinal Tap recommends this movie, and that's why I'm renting it verrrry soon : )

  • @anetchi Harry Shearers had a fair bit to do with the Working Dog folks. He was on The Panel heaps of times back in the day if my memory serves correctly.

  • @vnck25, if you are so proffessional moviemaker, then I wanna see your film.

  • Loved this movie. Great characters and story revolving around the greatest technial achievement that mankind has accomplished. The Prime Minister was great in this movie. Just what I'd expect an Aussie PM to be - coase, gruff, slightly ignorant, doesn't take any nonsense and likes a bit of a tipple!

  • Aussie pussies, what can they ever do right! he he he

  • The worst trailer I've ever seen, for one of the best movies I've ever seen.

And I thought I was monotone LOL.

  • Someone tricked be pretty good. I downloaded what I thought was this movie. Turns out there is some independent film also called "Dish". It about some gay guys first time having butt sex. I stopped watching after 3 minutes.

  • i saw this movie today on my cable system here in mexico and i can say that this is a brilliant film

  • This is one of my top ten "stuck on a desert island" movies. So many genuinely hysterical scenes.

  • watch?v=Ml5XC0LVtX8 is the REAL trailer for The Dish.

  • It looks like a classic but it is not a wonder we didn't see it in the good old US of A

  • Not the best trailer I've seen. Gives everything away and the narrator just sounds like he cant be bothered. Still, an awesome movie and well worth seeing.

  • Drongo's......

This trailer gives away most of the plot devices.....

I don't think the staff a Warner Brothers knew what a genuine classic movie (Australian or otherwise) that is "The Dish".....

    DON'T WATCH this trailer!!!

Buy....yes! Buy the movie instead. It has great (genuine) Apollo moon landing footage and is (they say) based on a true story. Oh and its very funny too!

  • For any "Dish" fans who particularly appreciate the soundtrack as I do: I STRONGLY recommend a purchase of "The Dish" CD soundtrack.

I've "waxed on" before here about Tina Arena's performance in the soundtracks "The Day The Earth Stood Still," but, having just listened though it all over again, I can only say this: If you like the short clips you see in the movie, you'll appreciate having the full-length version at hand through the CD.

The .wav preferred over the MP3 version, of course

  • just saw it. what a great movie!

  • At 30 seconds in you can see the Aussie singer, Lenka, in the background. If you haven't heard of her, listen to her Album of the same name. It is amazing. Or just YouTube one of her songs like "The Show"

  • This movie cracks me up every time and I have seen it about 50 times.

  • what's the song called in 1.47???

  • It's the theme to Hawaii 5'0

  • Well, I suspect you've had your answer several times by now but: the Song is the "Title theme to the US TV police drama: "Hawaii-5-0" (known colloquially as "Hawaii, Five-Oh."

    Starred actor Jack Lord....

Not the only throwback in this movie, either. :D

  • Climbed that thing today, it was awesome!

  • this movie has the two greatest life quotes of all time, both by Sam Neil :

"sometimes, you just gotta take a risk."

and "failure is never quite so frightening as regret."

  • You are quite likely right, sir.

    Both "truths" are QUITE true.

I can almost hope most will not have to realize this personally...although there is something to be gained from that, true.

  • hahahahahaha!

  • A movie i can't find any think wrong with this "The Dish" has an amazing story and you gotta love the exchanges between the 4 operators of the telescope.

  • This has to be the worst movie trailer I have ever seen. The movie itself is fantastic, and the Australian theatrical trailer was great.

Not sure how this trailer managed to stuff it up so completely.

  • I agree it does show some of the "lesser bits," but I'm not so sure that was a mistake.

Anyone who watched the film based on the trailer was probably quite pleasantly surprised by the actual film.

And anyone who didn't probably missed out on something truly magical.

There is some justice there, IMO....

  • Totally agree. The only trailer in history that shows the mediocre shots of a brilliant film. This is a wonderful film that has great characters, humor, warmth and a message. A refreshingly wholesome entertaining film.

  • This has to be the worst trailer ever. It completely misses the character of the movie!

  • This trailer's not great - but the movie's so brilliant. Please don't judge the movie by this ad!

  • Yes, the movie is absolutely brilliant. One of my own favorites certainly, and I never tire of watching it.

My seven year old nephew (who loves space) is currently amused by Don Knotts in "The Reluctant Astronaut."

I'll show him this one when he gets a bit older and can appreciate "character humor."

  • @McNeeProductions Yes please, that would have to be the worst promo of all time, which is a tall order indeed, but a wonderful Australian film, well worth the viewing.

  • i am goin to watch right now i just looked up the trailer to see what it was like :)

  • i love this movie....i was rolling on the floor laughing tears when they were about to play the US anthem and then played this doodle-woodle honky-tonk song....the scene is in the trailer too....great movie, recommend it to anyone who haven't watched it so far ;)

  • That honky tonk is the theme from "Hawaii Five-O," which was a popular TV detective show of the same era.

It was a funny bit, but I think even "Adrian Hobbs" would have realized it probably wasn't national anthem material.... :-P

  • Yeah, the trailer is horrid but the movie is brilliant!

  • I'm watching this tonight.

  • For once, this isn't one of those trailers that shows you all the best bits. The film has so much more to offer! Buy the DVD. (Thanks to some burglars, I've bought it twice now...)

  • yeh sorry bout that, didnt have enough money to buy it myself, thanks!

  • great movie!

  • A brilliant peice of film making. See it.

  • the best aussie movie ever.tragedy, emotion, history, young love, science, great music and aussie humour.never get sick of watching it.

  • not the best trailer but still pretty good
