    HK will be quite close to seeing a total eclipse of the moon on 2010/12/21, but unfortunately the moon is slightly below the horizon when the total eclipse finishes...

  • The next visible lunar eclipse will occur on Feb 9 this year, but it will be only a penumbral eclipse (the unaided eye should see a slightly dimmed moon; the moon will not be 'eaten' away). The next partial eclipse visible in Hong Kong will occur on Jan 1, 2010. However the magitude is very small - only less than 10 percent of the moon will be inside the umbra.
