  • these dudes are fucking genius

  • come to TAIWAN!!!!!!!please :P

  • Mogwai are Post Rock more than anything else, this could not be further from that. Another example of Post Rock would be Godspeed! You Black Emperor or Maybeshewill (from leicester) who seem to be supporting them in October (may see them for that reason).

But if it comes to Post Rock rather than instrumental (often they're together but not always) Scotland's best then Canada.

  • toe, mouse on the keys, and now these guys. How come the Japanese own at instrumental music? I don't think Mogwai could come close!

  • @spazabarri Hey now, MOGWAI is great at what they do..just cuz theyre both instrumental doesnt mean theyre are in the same genre. different bands, both good.

  • @spazabarri Toe = Blend of Math and Post Rock, Mouse On The Keys = Nu-Jazz, Mogwai = Post-Rock, unjustifibale to say that they don't come close, they're in different areas of music :P

  • @spazabarri check out Jizue.

  • @spazabarri

Check out Giraffes? Giraffes! Awesome American instrumental Band

  • @spazabarri don't forget te', another great jap instrumental band

  • okay....so after hearing this song in a combo video, I've officially fell in love with this band.

  • love that crunchy bass--fun song, great band. an inspiration to me for sure

  • They don't need a singer :D

  • got to try anyways! For an interest check out from my videos our band Dali and its song Woods. Its an old live demo made in rush for an interview we had. Just when we got things rolling our band member had to go to army and everyone had stuff going here and there. even though the quality it gives a hint of the bands hard and somewhat simple sound. now were among the living again and will soon blow the hell off the earth

  • @snrd79 I agree, a great band indeed.

  • Nutio is good but i find their compositions feel more rushed when compard to that of Lite.

  • If that's the definiton of "Math rock" i can name "nuito" a math rock band too, check it out.

Sequel to the letter is a great song of this guys too.

  • I wish most Americans were open-minded enough to have an ear for more than intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus single artist bullshit. That way I wouldnt have to look for this stuff on the internet.

  • @redfoxskater I wish most Americans were open-minded enough to not rule out other countries with the same issues. ;)

  • @Onimyst I've heard foreign pop songs. Theyre not as bad. But I guess thats because theyre foreign and "new" to me.

  • @redfoxskater I'm from the UK. Not that foreign.

  • @redfoxskater to be fair, a lot of j-rock sounds generic because of the whole intro-verse-formulaic thing thing

  • Toe's a good band too.

  • @SnakeTaint

    yes.

  • @SnakeTaint I TOETALLY AGREE WITH YOU i have my MP3 full with all of their songs my fav is Kodoku no Hatsumei! I was even willing to pay 15.50$ for them!

  • The bassline makes me happy in all the right places

  • Artists

  • ((ART^2)·GENIALITY)^"DEEP SENSE OF MUSIC" = LITE

    =)

  • the more unpopular a band may seem the harder they work to perfect their art and it comes out more and more incredible over time.

  • Wonderful musicianship.

    Also seriously guys, DAT BASS.

  • @Robomansk8

Yeah, I always thought math rock was a genre, not a technique.

  • Best song they have

  • ZYBOURNE COROKKU!

  • Dudes, it's math rock, plain and simple. This is the same type of shit that Tera Melos, Hella, Giraffes? Giraffes! This Town Needs Guns, Don Caballero, and quite a few more play. It's amazing stuff, and I am forever in love with how underrated it is. This genre is the best kept secret of music. The less that know, the better.

  • @waffles032 Totally right Dude. It's like the most mysterious and underated music genre ever, but if it were mainstream, there will be no charm to it. Everything that has this mathsy feeling to it, even in metal with bands like Animals As Leaders, Ghengis Tron, Hunab Ku ect... are probably the most complete and mature bands ever.

By the way, excuse my english, i'm from france.

  • @gonzopoet00 Thank's dude =) I'm gonna check out your brother's band ! It's right that there's some young bands that are really talented those days =] If you like LITE, you will probably enjoy a band called "Toe" they're from japan too and play a really cheerfull music with a lot of energy. worth check out =)

  • no words...gay they are talented though i give em that

  • I heard a square root at 1.26.. so its math rock

excellent stuff. if you like this you might like "the Redneck Manifesto"

  • @Pulchism

You heard a "square root"? What the hell? Math rock deals in strange, often changing time signatures, and this one stays in a constant 6/8.

  • @kurobass does it? No square root? My bad. Though I'll be the first to admit my maths is rusty since I left college 6 years ago.

  • @kurobass This is only one of their songs, many others shift constantly, and the term 'math rock' didn't even originally come from how 'mathematic' the songs sounded anyway. Either way, it's more useful to say this is math rock than to split hairs even further... and even then, it's only loose description. Sounds great either way.

  • no its not. it is in 5/8 with accents on 1 and 4, know something before you try to sound smart.

  • @drunkenXirishman actually it's in 3.

  • @watfhi check again bro.

  • @drunkenXirishman I did and it is in 3. You cannot count 5 and have it sync with the pattern anywhere in the song. You could put it in 6 but I'm pretty sure it's in 3 with two bar repetition since the picked pattern repeats after 3 with a slight change. Then again what do I know, I'm only a classically trained bassist.

  • @watfhi i tried my best to count it in 5.. but no can do. It's positively in 3/4. Well, i'm not the best drummer in the world but yeah.. it's in 3 not in 5...

  • @drunkenXirishman how the fuck do you think this is in 5? you good sir, are retarded....

  • Yeah,true.

This style of music is unknow by many, making some bands like this one go unseen, that's uncool ;/

this stuff is the top,i mean..just like Té , they are good at doing music,...good music, don't need lyrics afterall.

  • Probably my favorite band right now

  • Sparta Locals' light.

  • I thought it was scientist rock...oh thats The Minutemen...i mean physical education rock...or...who fuckin cares, just play. Shit man why do all the amature musician have to classify everything. Spend more time playing and less time shelving and maybe when you grow up you can have your own video too. That would be neato.

  • Well said.

  • @hvysoul17 Not sure if I have to reply to your post to vote up what you said... but the thing isn't letting me. So yeah, well said!

  • @hvysoul17

Don't be stupid. Things fit into categories no matter what you say. If they didn't then you could put music from bands like Creed and Nickleback side by side with them - which would be absurd.

  • @StarvingSound I don't really think that makes sense. Why would we put them "side by side", if we weren't classifying the bands in the first place? I think hvysoul17 has it right. A lot of people are hesitant to listen to a type of music because it's branded a certain way, when in reality, those labels probably aren't even correct. More listening, less fussing over the genre.

  • Yeah, this is definitely math rock. listen to the poly rhythms in the guitars and bass. and this is not the best song to judge their genre by. the rest of this album, Phantasia, is math rock out the ass.

  • Math rock isn't defined by tempo changes. This is definitely math rock. Sleeping People is another one to check out.

  • their e.p. is very math-rock, think it was released before the album

  • men

this does not mean that it is

    not math rock.

math rock is more than asymetric meter

    actually, this is math rock

  • This is not math rock. This song stays in 6/4 the entire way through. It's an odd time signature for 'western' popular music but math rock is many time signatures within the course of a track, constantly alternating and changing.

  • would you mind suggesting some titles that fit your definition of math rock?

  • Breadwinner, Drive Like Jehu, Don Caballero etc. It might be very complex, but trust me, this isn't math rock. I'm not saying I don't like this, LITE are one of my favourite bands. And at least it's not as ridiculous as when people call Foals math rock

  • I can't recognize time signatures and stuff like that so I wouldn't know how to recognize a math rock band unless someone tells me. But LITE is the best.

Oh, I checked out those bands....Not really my kind of thing....They may have intermittent time signatures but I didn't enjoy them much. Don't know what's wrong with me...

  • @gabe25591 that is not all what math rock is, that is a part which a lot of math rock bands have, but it is not essential to be math rock. i think this is a good definition "Math Rock is a relatively new sub-genre of rock music, characterized by complex, atypical rhythms (often including irregular stopping and starting), frequent use of irregular time-signatures, and dissonant, angular guitars"

  • It doesn't have to be. It's kind of ridiculous trying to classify a band as math rock, as any music that employs heavy use of syncopation that sounds "odd" to the ear is considered math rock, but what's considered odd is different to everybody. It doesn't have to involve crazy changes.

  • god, thats good... these guys sound alot like a speeded up version of some of Akira Yamaoka's works... well, his rock stuff anyways... i might have to look up some more, thats pretty intense...

  • Sick! ...

  • saw them live last year, it was fucking amazing

  • Pretty lovely songs they got these ppl^^ with Liquid Tension, LITE is my fav prog/instrumental band

  • Arrrgghhhh.... The bass track in this song makes me shiver

  • I know its SICCKK !!!

I always crank the bass all the way up for this song!

  • Amazing

  • it sucks how musicians like this are so underated :(

    this stuff is insaneeee

  • True music is hidden because the false music distracts the public from the lies.

  • good call, sir. good call.

  • @snakeater i completely agree. what other stuff do you listen to? lets see if we can introduce some new stuff to each other :)

  • @snakeater how do you mean they are underrated? because they aren't famous outside of japan?

  • pretty damn cool

  • a little too nice.

  • Estoy de acuerdo, muy bueno! great !

  • Muy bueno....

  • math rock XP

    l,,l-

  • I'm sorry if I sound ignorant asking this, but could you please explain to me what math rock is?

(I generally don't care about genres. If it sounds good, I listen to it. But the term 'math' rock is intriguing)

  • Math rock is an unpredictable mix of guitar experimenting. It can add on rhythms or beats or switch them up altogether, you never know. So yes, it is very intriguing

  • Hmm...I've always considered math and music two totally different things. I was imagining the band members running melodies through a finite element analysis model and playing the outcome. LOL.

    Thanks for explaining!

  • This group is so cool! The way they play the guitar is amazing because everything just syncs so well!!!!

    I love this!<3 Thnxx for posting! ^__^

  • Yeah that qualifies d[-_-]b

  • @MarebIto Don't know what you said but I agree

  • @MarebIto Exactly!!
