Best way to get Meg is Jack White's explanation that she's the boot stomping on the porch deck on the old blues track (paraphrasing, don't remember which interview). Totally perfectly nasty when viewed in that light.

The Kills are so much better though. Love both, but The Kills live are a genuine nasty rock n roll experience too rare for our times. Jamie at his best is a bona fide guitar god and Alison is just...Alison. Dirty, sexy, beautiful...

Having seen both in small clubs, I'd say it's a tie, while I like The Kills a ton and Jamie is an amazing guitarist, every time I saw The White Stripes I got in a fist fight, which is a good thing too... Any band that makes you want to deck the annoying drunk guy behind you is a real rock and roll band.

However, I think if you're going to pursue any avenue of art, it's an insult to real artists to just hack at it with no skill whatsoever. I think people with self respect put a little work into their art and learn their craft to the best of their ability to further enable the aforementioned self expression. Forget the "hugely popular" part, because that doesn't matter to me. I only mentioned it as a response to someone.

I see different up coming bands constantly, and there isn't much original going on right now. However, just about anyone I've seen is better than this.

Of the relatively recent shows, I'd say Imogen Heap with Kid Beyond was one of the more original.

Yes, the WS is a gimmick, nothing more. It's Jazz Fest here in NO, and I just got done seeing bands like The Meters, Kermit Ruffins, The Budos band, etc. So yeah, compared to just about anyone who can hold a beat in ANY genre of music, Meg White is a lousy drummer. But you probably don't, or you'd know what you're talking about. These amps make that noise if you bump them, move them... it's hard to avoid hearing the verb springs, so I think if you had one you'd know.
