  • Part of me is saying, "Well, I doubt that a Hobbit walking-song sounds like that," but another part is saying, "Dude! What the hell? Shut up and appreciate an exceptionally wonderful singer!"

  • OMG this is so beautiful! Your voice is amazing!

  • love this <3

  • you have a pretty nice voice :-)

  • i hope peter jackson uses this song in the hobbit

  • How well can u sing the song form the video labeled Hobbit Walking Song- The Road Goes Ever On its on the Suggestions to the right ;)

  • BTW great voice, plus dont become famous, for the best theyd spoil ur beautiful voice

  • I do not think it is because he could not because he son finished the last of his great and wonderful novels, I think it is because he chose not to.

  • makes me wonder WHY can't the explore the rest of the area D: probably because Tolkien never got the chance to finish the maps :c

  • I can only agree with the previous comments, this is breathtaking! Your beautiful voice could calm any storm. It gives me such inner peace. Thank you so much for sharing this!

  • Awesome!

  • There are so many versions of this song out there, but this one is by far my favorite. I love the take on it as a thoughtful, rather than upbeat, song. You have a gorgeous voice, and the accompaniment is wonderful. Brava.

  • this is beautiful i want to know who put the 3 dislikes cause i wanna beat their face in

  • so gergeous!

  • I really like the way you sing it... how may I get a copy of your song. It's possible?

  • I'm jaded, I'll admit it. I clicked this and expected the worst. But this is easily the finest rendition I've ever heard. BRAVO.

  • Ohh how beautiful, it would be great if Peter Jackson saw this, and hired the youtuber to come perform it in the new Hobbit film. C:

  • ooh~this is really good ^____________^

  • beautiful : )

  • I've been thinking of doing this song for some time now, and then I see your beautiful renidition.

Kari once again you've done a beautiful job!

  • This is really beautiful! I think it's more melancholy than Bilbo would have sung, it's more the way I imagine Frodo would have sang it but that's actually one the things I like about this version. Your voice is utterly amazing too!

  • I didn't imagine it being sung like this, for some reason.

  • you've got a very lovely voice :) very well done!

  • WOW! I feel as tho I stepped back in time! Beautiful voice! If I was wearing a hat right now it'd be off for you!

  • Is this available on a CD or MP3 somewhere? It is beautiful!

  • Flawless. A true pleasure. :)

Listening to this has made my day.

  • Your voice reminds me of Enya :)

  • You're amazing, this is a wonderful song and u made it perfect!

  • All these versions of the Road Goes Ever On don't really feel right. Don't get me wrong I think they're well done, but seeing as in the books the song is a 'walking song' I think it should be a little jauntier and quicker paced. Like Gandalf sings it in the first film.

  • You have a very lovely voice. It sounds like it could have been in the actual movie!

    Great singing.

  • The best part is from 0:00 to 5:20!

I love this song, it kinda pulls me into the Tolkien's made place!

  • Very lovely

  • Oh, you are great! I love your voice, it sounds like elven voice, if you know what I think with it=))

  • Your voice is amazing. The ratings show it, 4.99 : ) it's very calming ^^ Anyway, thanks for putting this up. Again, love your voice :D

  • Wow! You sing a wonderful rendition of one of Tolkien's songs. I'll admit I've heard of the Tolkien ensemble but I've never heard them before, but I'll surely look them up now, and also take a look at some of your other covers because you have a great voice. =]

I'd be great if you do any more LotR/Tolkien songs sometime in the future. =]

  • Dear Kari,

Thank you very much for your beautiful interpretation of The Old Walking Song. It's a great pleasure to hear you sing this tune and I would be happy to hear other versions of our Tolkien Ensemble songs with your voice in the future. All best Caspar Reiff

  • this is an amazing adaptation of a true classic!!!!

  • Thank you so much :-)

  • great music!

  • Thanks :-)

  • I wanted to give you a five star rating for this video, but you had eleventy-one ratings! XD Still, five stars.

  • This is absolutely wonderful. You have the loveliest voice that just compliments the music so well. I enjoy this every time I hear it! A most excellent and beautiful rendition - thank you for sharing!

  • Thank you so much - I'm so glad you liked it :-)

  • Great job! You have a beautiful voice.

  • Thank you so much :-)

  • Makes me dream of a journey from childhood to old age.I started to listen before sleep every night :)

  • Aaaw that's so sweet - Thank you very much :-)

  • WOW THATS YOU SINGING you got an amazing singing voice

  • Thank you so much ... I'm glad you liked it :-)

  • Love it . sing absolutely perfect one can feel the song

  • Thank you so much :-)

  • tolkien was a genius, thanks for a really cool rendition of the walking song.

  • He was indeed!

I'm glad you liked my version :-)

  • why didn't you sing this song the way gandalf and bilbo do in the film? Personaly i share Murphy's opinion. You sing absolutely perfect, but i wasn't expecting this tune :D if you would sing it like gandalf does in the film it would be perfect.

  • I don't know the songs from the movie, but I'll look for it :-)

  • That would be awesome. Keep up the good work!

  • This song sounds so much better with your vocals :3

  • Thank you so much :-)

  • Nice singing and nice song ;)

  • Thank you so much!

  • Fantastic rendition, my only gripe is that in the Fellowship of the Ring movie when Gandalf and Bilbo sing it, they have a tune while they sing that I personally feel fits the song better. Many people enjoy your version, and I'm certain that if you were to sing it with that tune rather than the one you used here in this video, I would absolutely adore it, but again, do not feel downtrodden because I still heartily enjoyed this and many others did as well. Gentlemanne.

  • Thanks for the nice words. I don't know the songs from the movie that well - But I will listen to them a few more times - and then, if I can find the backing for them, I'll try singing some more LOTR-songs .-)

  • this is fabulous... You have a very good singing voice :)

  • Thank you so much! :-)

  • you sound like annie lennox..you should try into the west:)

  • Nobody's ever told me I sound like her before :-)

But I like her very much - Thanks!

    I'll give it a try :-)

  • ijustwanttosing, are you on BM?

I am hans there, my latest blog is uploading this youtube

  • I don't know what BM is...?

  • That is really cool! And quite ambitious, to try to recreate LotR poems musically. Good work!

  • Thank you so much! :-)

Yes - The Tolkien Ensemble has made some fabulous songs out of Tolkien's poems

  • Sounds a bit like Enya! :-) Very nice!

  • Wow - thank you so much!

  • ok hej. Så ved du, at det ikke er dig der synger

  • Hvad mener du?

  • are you from Denmark?

  • Ja :-)

  • very very good!

  • Thanks so much!

  • Absolutely lovely! How did you get a hold of the music?

  • You can buy the CDs from the Tolkien Ensemble in most internet shops. I know that they've got them on Amazon :-)

  • Did you ever have lessons?

  • Yes I did - many many years ago I took lessons with an opera singer :-)

Since then I have just been singing on my own...

  • very nice indeed! Good job

  • Thanks so much!

  • you have very sweet and pleasant voice

  • Thank you so much!

  • It's not the melody used in the movie...

  • No, this is composed by the Tolkien Ensemble - I've written about them and the song in the info-box :-)

  • Beautiful! *****

  • Thank you so much!

  • amazing

  • Thanks :-)

  • this is really good, exactly how I imagined it being sang LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks! I'm so glad you liked it :-)

  • This is a great cover. Is a download available?

  • Thank you so much! Do you mean the orignial version?

  • I actually meant if you had released a copy anywhere. I'd hate to do wrong by your work by just ripping a crappy quality mp3 from the video.

  • I'm glad you like both :-) Thanks

  • Surely you are an Elf!

    This is enchanting...

  • Thank you so much - I'm not that "elfish" though :-)

  • thats lovely :)

  • Thank you so much :-)

  • AMAZING!

  • Thanks :-)

  • Awesome Voice!! Great; simply great!!

  • Thank you so much :-)

  • I'm left speechless with your soothing voice... This is so beautiful. Thank you for singing this, I've never heard anyone sing that last Rivendell version :)

  • Aaaw thank you so much! :-)

  • oh, your voice is gorgeous! inspiring!

  • Thank you so much!

  • I'm gonna take voice lessons.... I hoipe I can learn to sing good, like you :)

  • Aaaw thank you so much!

  • I think it's a beautiful version, although i like the happy version too. And I also have to admit you have a wonderful voice, it's refreshing.

  • Thank you so much!

  • u have murderd that song its a happy song the way u sing it brings a tear 2 my eye not jump around with happyness its suppost to be a lively song u killed man u really did

  • I'm sorry you feel that way.

I don't know how to sing the song differently... The musical backing is peaceful and melancholic, and to me that doesn't exactly suggest jumping around with joy...

The original version (composed by The Tolkien Ensemble and sung by Mads Thiemann) is also more pensive than it is frivolous.

I know that the first part of Tolkiens beautiful lyrics suggests anticipation - but the ending (on which this song is based) suits melancholy retrospect and reflection...

  • Don't worry about critics :), music is art and should be seen through the composers artistic style...

HEY if it really bothers you, I can tell you this; even the most influential: leaders, artist, musicians, etc etc had their own critics :)...

Critics are just closed minded individuals who can't see art for what it is; a visual representation of feelings, be it: music, painting, dance, etc...

  • Thank you so much for your support!

I'm glad that most people like what I do :-)

I'm not aiming towards becoming a professional singer or anything like that - so I'm not that bothered about those people who write negative comments. And I like to get constructive critisism!

I'm just glad that noobdy has written hateful comments - some people receive comments such as "You sound like crap" or "you're a f** homo" and things like that. I'm glad people haven't written such things on my channel :-)

  • You're welcome :) and keep up the music :)... I enjoy wholeheartedly your version, which is a nice change to the happy perspective of the original version...

Probably because I use to play the violin, but it definitely hits an emotional chord :)... Thank you for sharing, another reason why I like youtube or I wouldn't have heard you :)...

  • I LOVE IT! :), does justice for and to Tolkien's/Gandalf's version...

I love your version of it, when I listen to it: I reminisce of days gone through my travels, imagining the what ifs and could haves, but not regretting the decisions I've already made :) :) :)....

I see Gandalf's version as a happy outlook to new adventures and the mystery of the unknown...

  • Thank you so much - I'm really glad you liked it :-)

  • Thats fantastic ! love your voice ! thanks for sharing this video with us :)

  • Thank you so much! :-)

  • amazing♥__♥

  • Thanks :-)

  • A lot of people are saying 'not as good as Gandalfs version' which is true but only because thats being sung by GANDALF

As a standalone song its amazing, especially if yo're an amateur, I really like this interpretation of the song :)

  • Thank you so much. That's very kind of you :-)

  • beautiful :D

  • Thanks :-)

  • I like it. It's a little different from gandalf's version, which I must admit I like a bit better, but it's still quite good.

  • I think we all prefer the original version :-)

I am just an amateur... And I'm glad you liked it

  • omg i love ur voice ur so relaxing

  • Thank you so much :.-)

  • wow... amazing pipes ^_^

  • Thank you :D

  • Where did the melody come from?

  • I wrote a bit about it in the description box :-)

  • It is beautiful!!! You've got a great voice!!

  • Thank you so much!

  • You sing great, though it does sound more in a elven style then in what I imagined it, a hobbit-song, or sung by a voice alike to Gandalf-Ian Mckellen....

But still, this is fantastic! Thenk you for singing and posting this.

  • Hehe yeah well I'm not much of a hobbit - I don't think my voice is in the elven genre either ;-) But I'm glad you liked it all the same. The song was simply so wonderful that I had to sing it - even if my voice isn't excactly meant for it :D

  • Wow, that was fantastic, I agree with 09Classic

  • Thank you so much! :-)

  • Please consider it a compliment when I say

    ...

you sing exactly like an elf.

  • Hehe - Wow thank you!

Well... My ears are a bit pointed... ;-)

  • your amazing!!!

  • *blushes* - Thank you so much!

  • This is beautiful...simply beautiful!

  • Thank you so much! :-)

  • Beautiful voice!!! So very emotional and it makes me shiver :o)

  • Wow thank you so much! :-)

  • this is truly beautuful. did you write the music yourself?

  • Thank you - the music is composed by Caspar Reiff and Peter Hall, who are the leaders of The Tolkien Ensemble :-)

  • Your voice is really beautiful, perfect!

  • Wow thank you so much!

  • so awesome!!!!!!!

    I love it!!!!!

  • Thank you so much!!!

  • You have a beautiful voice.

  • Thank you so much!

  • Is this similar to what Gandalf is singing in the first movie?

  • Yes it's the same song

  • yeh the lyrics but not the melody, gandalf's is more lively and different melody.

  • True. Wonder which one's the right one, or if Tolkien even intended to have a "right" melody

  • This one is really beautiful similar style as the soundtrack, but the one in the movie Gandalf sings is more of a road-trip kind of melody. More useful on school road trips :D.

  • Agree :D

  • Omg!!!! It's so beautiful I live it! Is there a way I could get a copy?! It's so nice! =)

  • Thank you so much

  • utterly beautiful...
