  • Please folks, learn to use your Character Map. The man's name is Arvo Pärt, not Arvo Part. "ä" and "a" are NOT interchangeable! And if you don't know how to access "ä" on your keyboard, then the appropriate spelling is Paert.

  • @markpkessinger Do you have autism?

  • omg yes this

  • estonia!

  • this is just so unbelievably moving to me

  • Arvo Part is the sound of Humanity

  • I love the images, and Part's music is so desolate. Beautiful.

  • @franklywrightbitches the substance of music is emotion by the way...

  • la volá de estoniaa xD (L) lo mejor del mundo!

  • *speechless*

  • Qué toma más linda: mientras el grupo de tipos descargan y acomodan los costales, en primer plano un caballo negro, de reluciente pelo que se vuelve gris.

  • Bjork sent me here.

  • Estonia!

  • im not a religious person i just enjoy chorus music

  • this is awesome kind of modernized classical music love it

  • @franklywrightbitches you are the pretentious one why are you here if you don't like it? rotate and hear something else

  • i envy arvo, because what you feel when you listen to his music is just his life, he felt this all the time

  • @sprtn0117brice : when i hear his music, it fills me up with an energy that cant be expressed in words..you really "feel" this music..its an amazing sensation that encompasses your entire body for the duration of the song...to know that feeling everyday of my life would be like heaven :)

  • @sprtn0117brice Not true, this comes and goes to him probably like everything. I remember reading somewhere that he made no music for ten years.

  • @franklywrightbitches Judging art like you know which is the right criteria to judge it: now THAT'S pretentious crap.

  • A baby crying, wonderful. For me that sums it all up.

  • A lot of people tried to cheer me up this morning, the only guy who made it work is Arvo Part.

  • A lot of people seem to be underestimating the sound of their god, or overestimating?

  • why do the most pretentious comments always get the most thumbs up?

  • @garethorchard - heartfelt isn't the same as pretentious.

  • Epic !!!!

  • I don't know why but the images of the video make me a very singular effect with the music. This is art.

  • I swear I feel like the world stops when I watch and listen to this. Simply remarkable.

  • It's perfect, some beautiful footage there.

  • meravigliosamente ispirato

  • i dont wanna see god in music . I wanna see unholiness

  • (Place your silence here)

  • Maravilhoso! Música de força e ombridade. Um poema de vozes. Clima glorioso quase sinistro. Me remete a coisas do além túmulo.

  • Maravilhoso!

  • increible lo suave y tranquilo de su musica. gracias por el upload

  • THIS SONG! Just so moving! I cet goosebumps whenever I hear it. I'd love to sing it again, I sang this in high school... This was my favorite song through all of my singing. I like it even more than Whitacre's works... That is saying something!

  • more than than everything, means soo much

  • MAGNIFICent!

  • Meraviglioso.

  • yeah music is subjective but I just want to be organized

  • I like the combination of that music with those images. I like your sensibility, whoever you are, creator of this video.

  • Does anyone know the record details this comes from?

  • Beautiful, very moving

  • This is archival footage from life before the Great War of 2013 when humanity still believed in the future. Let this be a moment of remembrance for a world that once was. What few of us are left shall carry on, and if we are to become the last, let us carry the torch of hope to our graves. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Amen.

  • Magnificent!

Love live Arvo Pärt.. long live Estonia.

  • Is this the sound of humanity?

  • @TheAmericanCossack Such a good comment, it really deserves to be in the top.

  • @TheAmericanCossack

Is this the sound of God ?

  • gorgeous video in accompaniment. thank you

  • Arvo Pärt makes me proud to be Estonian! His music is just beatiful

  • I am blessed by your bringing Manificat to us. The slender call of God moving ever so quietly through the deep forest of life. Such a dance between that breath and Part as he wrote down the notes, swelling, hesitating, lush in its simplicity, letting all knowwho wrote the dance upon the page of music.

And such an interesting choice for you to put the old family movies (I assume) to this music.

  • Anyone know what choir sang this?

  • @Alfred0047 It's the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.

  • damn spelling of 'sole' got me again

  • music and religion is surely about people just trying to connect with their sole, but you can love one without the other. I am not religious at all but love listening to music like this, i just never make the connection with religion......all i know is listening to something as beautiful as this makes life worth living

  • When was this song made?

  • Great video. Similar overall feel to Baraka and Koyaanisqatsi. Music to die to.

  • There are no words for this sheer beauty. I'm not sure what to do or say.

  • Then the city collapsed.... Over 9000 nuclear bombs were dropped.

  • Dear Alexrush55

as you know, if you are quiet enough you can always hear the voice of God whoever you imagine that to be. With love.

  • BATMAN

  • Truly beautiful... I have nothing to say.

  • This was truly haunting...I loved the contrast between the Magnificat and the nostalgic video of a time gone by...

  • Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir is singing, conducted by Paul Hillier.

  • hes like the king of supermarket and elevator music,a new improved james last for the upperclass types...

  • precioso!!

  • blopaaf, you´re gright but...just try to do not read! Just listen!

  • Pärt, for me, is probably the most inspiring and interesting composer of the last 50 years in european serious music next to Ligeti and Andriessen.

His early serial work expresses the struggle and constant conflict of a confused person in the soviet union. The first symphony is extremely dark and violent in a wonderful kind of way.

But I think that the next step to Tintinnabuli was logical for Pärt because he found his inner peace and a way to show it. I am an Atheist- but I love the music.

  • Beautiful ...

  • Beautiful ...

  • Beautiful!

  • what can you do but sit in silent wonder at this masterpiece. be it the voice of God, be it the emotion of all the world in song, be it the cry of a single human, be it whatever it is. it is perfect.

  • Only good when performed exactly as Part wanted it. He really does make each blade of grass as beautiful as a flower.

  • @MorkaGraven I'm guessing you've seen him talk about his music from the quote?

  • @Banned4Life Yes. I've watched 24 Preludes for a Fugue about 3 times.

  • Truly wonderful combination of image and score. Deeply moving. Thank you.

  • OMG the chord at 2:19

  • Sounds good. If you like this kind of music, you should check out the "Huelgas Ensemble". It's awsome too.

  • @ww88bpg Did Huelgas recorded this piece ?

  • @AlainNaigeon, I'm not quite sure. It could be, but I think it'performed by the Estonian Philarmonic Chamber Choir. Again: it 's possible that Huelgas recorded this beautiful piece.

  • @ww88bpg Thanks !

  • beautiful. strengthening. peaceful. thank you for sharing this on the internet.

  • My college chorus did this at are Christmas concert last weekend. It was truly an honor to preform...

  • I still tear up whenever I hear this music. Sit alone in darkness with Arvo Part's Da Pacem album. If you're quiet enough I swear you can hear The Voice of God.

  • @alexrush55: the last time I heard the voice of God, he was complaining that his piles were killing him.

  • @alexrush55 You are so right...I think i can hear it too...

  • @alexrush55 what a wonderful and powerful observation. It reminds me of a quote in a movie about Beethoven, where Beethoven says, " The vibrations on the air are the breath of God speaking to man's soul... Music is the language of God. We musicians are as close to God as man can be. We hear his voice, we read his lips, we give birth to the children of God, who sing his praise. That's what musicians are..." From the movie, "Copying Beethoven". I think Arvo Part is one of those who is close to God

  • @alexrush55 I agree completely. Call me. x

  • @alexrush55 and if your an Athiest... what do you hear?

  • @ImSoJohnDeleted you hear voice of god and then become a believer

  • @markokraljev that's actually counter to the point that when you realize a magic trick is just a trick you can't go back to believing it's magic.

  • @markokraljev

Slusaj ti Arva Partija, pusti te druge soundse, bolje.

  • @alexrush55 dude a question... is this DARK AMBIENT or just CLASSICAL

  • @eetherealflux Classical.

  • Heel mooi. Het is een stijl die wij niet kennen. Deze muziek intrigeert voor even.

En dat is niet te verwaarlozen.

  • @blopaaf, I love your soul.

  • hey guys hey guys. Is this the official music video. The beat is tight but it looks like it was made in 1800 or some shit

  • @destroct

No I don´t think Pärt has any music videos. Not his field. His videos are the kind filmed at churches and concert halls.

  • @destroct the beat is off the hook, i agree.

  • very impressive, i can hear why some people think this is holy.

  • gorgeous

  • Je houd constant je adem in door de prachtige dissonanten!

Je raakt bijna buiten adem omdat het zo ademloos is om naar te luisteren.

  • music + video is superaffective. because there are no words, I'll just say "thanks." :) :) :)

  • Suscepit Israel puerum suum

  • In 2006 I composed the piece "Für Arvo Pärt" which now you can listen on this channel.

Why? because he's one of my strongest influences for my inner self as musician; from the Classical to Rock and Folk to Pop music I do. This is my Thanks, a musical embrace as well, that shadows that mysterious sorrow in my heart knowing it's honestly hard to get a possibility to shake hands and compose something together. Mr. Pärt, a humble man whose music could turn into humility the mean in each of us. ~R

  • Arvo Part' music is beautiful and evocative - he is a true mystic.

  • My speakers are not unworthy playing this title...

  • Nice video. One of the best in Youtube

  • @ColdFobia Die? Why?

  • Comment removed

  • @ColdFobia I believe that "Raison D'etre" means "Reason of (for) being." A more evocative title than "The Slow Ascend" for me. So, if my French is wrong, don't correct me ;)

  • @ColdFobia Oh, Raison D'etre is the band...my bad.

  • My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.

For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden,

For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.

And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.

He has shown strength with His arm: He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts,

  • I am angry at myself for reading the comments. Always some discussion between a religious and an atheist fanatic, or between intuitive and educated music lovers. These people really spoil the pleasure of listening.

  • @jockboy69 so you honestly claim civilization ended in a time where slavery was still a norm, democracy thought of as heresy and human rights were not even considered until about fifty years later.

  • @blopaaf I AGREE ...THEY HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO.....LETS ENJOY THE MUSIC....HAVE YOU HEARD MASTERPIECES OF PORTUGUESE POLYPHONY???...AN OLD CD ...BUT BEAUTIFUL....I'M INTO TIBETAN CHANT AT THE MOMENT...SACRED CEREMONIES COMPILATION VERY GOOD..AVAILABLE ON , YES YOU GUESSED IT, AMAZON

  • @blopaaf don't let them spoil it...beautiful music

  • @blopaaf Tru dat. This is pure enjoy, and some Dudes tear it up. Nasty.

  • @blopaaf

    AGREE COMPLETELY

  • @blopaaf Well blopaaf, now you've become the comments and so have I.

  • @blopaaf that's the problem with art actually in our society...

  • fragility. This is the word I was trying to find...

this music is like a naked child alone in a big city, calm and expecting.

He's fine. We cry when we see him.

  • @blopaaf

yes, absolutely. this is how this music appears to me, too. thank you for putting it into words.

  • @blopaaf what the shit?

  • @blopaaf Do we cry for him or for us?

  • our modernity, so many things in it.

  • it's amazing... how he can transcend and vibe the music like a flowing river... gives me chills

  • I just LOVE this music and this video.

  • hmm...

ma kujutan ette et see on muusika mida kuuleb inimene, kes on surma äärel...

    inglite laul

  • audio bliss

  • I have been doing a lot of reading about modal forms. One book I read recently discusses the influences of Kind of Blue which streaches through Terry Riley of In C fame and also mentions Arvo Part and the minimalists. Good to finally hear his music

  • WOW!!!

  • all the remorse of the world felt through this song. it's beautiful. well thats what I feel.

  • It has so much emotion, I was so touched by picking up an Estonian artist Arvo Part cd in Los Angeles. it was so wonderful to find a little home and memories again being away from Estonia for so many years, The music speaks for itself! Thanks, suur tanu Arvo

  • if there was god, there would be no suffering in this world.

  • @viktorgoa clearly you've not read the bible i'm seriously not trying to start something here man, I'm just saying

  • @viktorgoa

god grants us truth. by suffering he leads us there.

  • @snufkin789 So true. May God bless you.

  • @viktorgoa Not so friend. Someone screwed up bad and now we all have to suffer. If there was no suffering in the world we would not have the gift and curse of free will. Without suffering this music would mean nothing.

  • Kõlab kui elu. Loomulik ja ehtne. Muusika algallikast. Fantastiline ja imeline. Inimhääle kokkukõla. Suurepärane muusika ja hääle kokkukõla. Puudutab südant ja aju, takteerises selles rütmis, mille dikteerib veri. Silme ette manatakse minevik olevik ja tulevik. Ajatus ja surelikkus. Õrn ja sügav. Koos ja üksi.

  • @HorsesAreLive1 Just wonderfully said!

  • @HorsesAreLive1 Lihtsalt imeliselt ütles!

  • Nie śmiem komentować.

  • this piece is humanity to me.

  • thank you God for Arvo Part. A religous man in the true sense. I am disgusted by how much people hate religion(not only christianity) because they are too blind to see the corruption in our world. this music is a wake up call for the spirit of mankind, it proves that ancient beauty is still here

  • @Ono42012

What planet do you live on, religion causes most of the corruption in our world among other things. The fact that you would put it on a pedestal apart shows the depths of your delusion. There are so many contradictions in your comment its a joke. Inner sprituality does more justice to the work of arvo part then organized religion ever will. Religion may be ancient but spirituality is timeless as is this music.

  • @0Eskimo0Rage0 religion itself doesn't cause corruption- people do.

  • @aheura exactly.

  • @0Eskimo0Rage0 ah well true religion is spirituality actually. You just have to realize that its corrupted by worldy desires and ignorance but thats why theres arvo part :)

  • Great music, but the video is totally out of place.

  • @snerwander I totally disagree, it sits very comfortably with the Music. I am sure [for me anyway] the Music is talking of the past [like the present and the future] just as the archive footage does. Great idea, thanks for posting!

  • So dar at times yet so beautiful.

  • Very simple in its structure and harmony. Minimalist is his style but this piece certainly conjures up the pathos of human condition, the hope for eternal life, and the transcendence of religious music.

  • It seems like that song took away all the mess out of my brain. It's just brilliant.

  • Amazing..

  • Interesting combination of music and the image)

  • magnificent juxtaposition between these film clips and the music. We experience the tertium quid when viewing this video.

  • Beautiful !

Thank you very much for posting

  • beautiful.

  • Koyanisquaatsi-esque ! BRILLIANT ! I have long adored Part. This video coupling is superb.

    ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

  • Amazing. Pärts music, specially in combination with this video, makes me feel that the state of grace is within and around us. Part of our existence, not tucked away in some heavenly kingdom, secluded from us in time, space and dimension. Truly spiritual.

  • I love this... it'slike the end of the world
