His statement that the future of democracy is in increased private ownership (or, millionaires who have a stake in the country) is, for me, very problematic. It assumes their is enough resources to spread around. It seems more likely that it will create a class of wealthy elites who control democracy, as has happened throughout history. Large disenfranchised populations will not make Russia more free.

Increased private ownership (particularly when coupled w/ globalization), simply means a a dictatorship by phantom, unelectable and sometimes foreign boards of directors... and an election between figureheads to represent them. Democracy has been hijacked. Then again, democracy is hijackable.

oh but there are increasing ressources... and theyre being more and more dispersed throuhout society...plus in russia the whatever millionaires are (unlike in the west) subject to intense state supervision, and the russian state is making sure the average citizens life is getting better.

when ressources are dispersed, power is dispersed. when power is dispersed, authoritarian systems do not hold on. look at the USSR. and i believe putin knows this very well. theres some truth in the statement that hes the saviour of russia you know
