  • can anyone help me? Ive done all that, and it says hardware present:yes But i still cant find ANY wireless connections?? What am i doing wrong? =(

  • I do the same thing but then it says "Unable to check if the hardware is present". But the hardware is present. Mine is a dell wireless 1370 mini-PCI adapter.

  • @TheFrozenCyclone open up the terminal and type this in: "sudo modprobe -r bcm43xx" and tell me if anything happens

  • @avdeveloper I tried it and I get this:

    frozencyclone@frozencyclone-laptop:~$ sudo modprobe -r bcm43xx

WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, it will be ignored in a future release.

WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, it will be ignored in a future release.

    FATAL: Module bcm43xx not found.

    frozencyclone@frozencyclone-laptop:~$

  • Great video, thanks for taking the time to make this tutorial, greatly appreciated.

  • does this work with just ubuntu installed on the pc?

  • change the battery in your smoke detector...

  • @xxstevesxx yeah, I looked everywhere for that smoke detector, in the basement, and in the kitchen. It turns out it was right above me in the same room I was recording in. lol

  • Wow linux has no limits :D i Fuking love linux!!

  • I don't use a USB adapter due to having built in Wi-Fi network cards. Do you have any idea where I can find a similar driver package with this as my network card adapter?

    Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN

  • Great video. I was just striking my head against the wall getting the d*m* Wifi to work!

  • please tell me where u those application that enables windows drivers be install on ubuntu.thanks

  • were do i get an .inf file of my wireless driver? it's obscure i only have a .exe

  • Comment removed

  • 2:24 "Click uninstall."

  • @TheDemonicHeretic haha, at first I didn't get it cuz the video was on mute. Yes, I meant to pronounce "on install"

  • Hi,

I'm trying to install a windows driver for a Fritz USB Wlan stick on my ubuntu.

Therefore I followed the instructions in your video (which was very helpful, thank you).

The problem is he won't install the utils 1.9 package because the software center says i386 wrong architecture. (I have no internet access on my ubuntu by the way!)

Do you by any chance know how to solve this?

  • @loget3 it means you should get the 64-bit version of NDISWrapper. That also means you're using the 64-bit version of Ubuntu, correct? To avoid problems like these, it's actually better to just install a 32-bit version of Ubuntu (recommended by Canonical). This way, you can follow this tutorial using the files provided below the video.

  • @avdeveloper thanks, I'm using wubi so I'm re-installing it with the 32bit argument right now. Hopefully it'll work I was dealing with this for nearly 2 days now :) Thanks again for helping me out, cheers.

  • oh man!! I never post comment or anything, the truth i'm very lazy selfish internet user... but i must really thank you for this video, i was so desprate to get ubunto recognise my damn old dell 1470 wireless udapter... I tried all my googled command line for this issue.. no use!!! and now it's working thanks to you!

I guess i'll reconsider my selfish passive way to use internet and try to help others as they are always here to help ppl even the most selfish guy like me!

    Thanks again buddy!

  • The files can be found WHERE?!

  • Thanks a LOT!!!! I almost went crazy :S

  • Thanks Man! Great tutorial!!!!!!!!!

  • Does anyone know what I should do if the hardware is not recognized by the computer?

  • Your video helped a lot!!!

    Thankz

  • can you give out the link for intel.

  • THIS IS USELESS, COUSE IT DOESNT SUPPORT "MONITOR MODE"

THIS IS EASY WAY TO DO IT AND ALL WORKS: - DOWNLOAD ONE OF THIS VERSIONS,those are finished scripts for linux that work.

  • download from wireless.kernel.org this sub page compat-wireless_2.6.38_stable_releases

  • below is written what u should do., SUDO MAKE INSTALL, and after that SUDO ATHLOAD ATH5K(IN MY CASE.,and that is it .,it will work everything, 100%, and monitor mode which is for me the most important.,

  • this is not that simple for me it keeps preloading the defualt buggy driver over ndiswrapper.........i dont get what i did wrong i even tried blacklisting it but uff,,,,no luck................................it just says connecting for ever then asks for my pasword over and over again

  • @True2TheBlueYoViGang post your adapter's model no. maybe I can help you out

  • @avgeneral89

its a realtek wireless lan card integrated into the computer...

  • So there is no way i can fix it without using internet?

  • @Borisyoch there is! It's just easier to do with internet that's all. Anyway, here is the link to the page that tells you what to do: "help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx#b43%20-%20No%20Internet%20access"

  • @Borisyoch add: h t t p s : / / without spaces

  • @avgeneral89

Should i download STA drivers or b43 drivers?

  • @Borisyoch follow the instructions on this page: bit(dot)ly/3v3Ms

  • Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation Device [14e4:4727] (rev 01)

  • @Borisyoch connect to the internet via wired connection, then enter the following commands in the terminal:

    sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter

    sudo modprobe b43

  • @avgeneral89 dude... THANK YOU!!! IVE TRIED EVERYTHING FOR LIKE 3 HOURS AND I JUST PASS YOUR COMMENT AND FIGURED HAY WHAT THE HELL I GOT NOTHIN TO LOSE....... AND BAM!!! RIGHT WHEN I ENTERED IT MY WIFI TURNED ON!!! i already had b43-cutter installed but i guess modprobe b43 did it

  • I have installed driver but Wireless Network is still not available!

  • @Borisyoch what model do u have?

  • @avgeneral89

I have integrated wireless Broadcom adapter.

  • @Borisyoch you know, in Ubuntu 10.10, my integrated wireless card does not start automatically when I boot it up. Every time I log in, I have to right-click on the network icon to "Enable Wireless" Maybe you have the same issue as me. Try that.

  • @Borisyoch if that doesn't work, enter this in the terminal and tell me the exact name/model of your wireless card

  • @avgeneral89

    Enter what?

  • @Borisyoch Haha, sorry I forgot to paste the command: "lspci -v | less"

  • Hey man I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and it recognizes my wireless card out of the box. However the speed is much slower than on my Windows 7 side, as in download speeds etc. (I'm dual booting) Any ideas how to make the speed increase to what it should be? This is the only thing stopping me from going fully to Ubuntu and scrapping Windows all together.

  • @nick11927 that is strange. maybe a driver issue? try using the windows driver and compare the speed with ubuntu's driver for your wifi.

  • Thanks man I been to at least 20 other web sites non was as good at this I will make sure to subscribe

  • The on board Ethernet circuitry died on my desktop, so I bought a wifi dongle at WM for $30. However no luck with the driver situation. I'm tired of the kludged setup I'm no using for the internet, so I looking for and saving tips about to go about this,to see if I can get in work when I try it again. Thanks for posting...

  • I love you man..

  • Your a genius. I've been looking all around the internet for a way to do this. Thanks.

  • Brilliant! the only vid with a clear explanation and a good download.

  • I have a d-link DIR-655, and can't find the inf file. I've done everything else, just need the driver, is there a specific place that stores infs?

  • @WingedDrant you gave me the model no. of the router. Plz post the model no. of your wifi adapter so I can find the INF file for you.

  • @avgeneral89 broadcom 43224ag 802.11a/b

  • @WingedDrant unzip this file. the INF file is in the folder, don't delete the rest of the files ok? I can't post the full url so add this after mediafire url: "/file/2yihdf42l6azlnw/broadcom%2043224ag.zip"

  • @avgeneral89 Thank you so much for going through the trouble of helping; I'm just learning to use linux and you were a great help.

    Using ubuntu 10.04

  • @nihonglish make sure you've extracted all the files. all files should be in the same folder.

  • followed your instructions exactly, used your files and got the following message when I clicked the 'ndisgkt'

Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: ndiswrapper-utils-1.9

    any ideas?

  • The file does not work on my ubuntu, i have no internet though. is there a way to install ndiswrapper without connection to the internet?

  • @limpbiz2789 it shud work. tar.gz is a zip file, you have to extract all the files. for offline, you transfer those files from an internet-enabled computer to your computer using dvd or flash drive.

  • Thank You! Like every one elce says this vid is super! It has a download link, the instructions are clear! Even though i'm not new to ubuntu, it was the first vid with a good download!

  • @guyibo1231 Awesome!

  • Thank you so much! I'm new to linux/ubuntu, I found some other videos and instructions on this topic to be confusing. This vid made this very easy.

  • @kclongley I'm glad you "Like" it

  • Thank you so much, you are the only one out there with a strait forward explanation. Now I can use the Interwebs!!!!!!

  • @penj3z I'm glad you "Like" it

  • Can you link me to something like this but for 64bit OS's? I've been working on this for days please help :'(

  • Is there any particular reason you are using the older versions of the software? The newer versions work just fine!

  • @KapteinEinstein I guess my version was the latest when I released it. Can you link to a more updated version, plz? thx.

  • I don't know the exact message but it seems I need the ndisgtk for i486 and not i386 or so. I just started with Ubuntu and have no idea what to do^^. I can't find another ndisgtk with the ".deb" extension.

Could you pls help me? thx

  • When i download my driver I get a .exe file how do i get it to a .inf file?

  • @Damour5H which model is it?

  • @avgeneral89 the driver is for my wireless card not that bluetooth thing. All i want to know is how to extract to the .inf file, i am trying cabextract but i don't understand how it works so help plz?

  • @Damour5H I don't know how to find the .inf after you extract it. That's why I'm asking just for the model so I can look for it.

  • @avgeneral89 i found the .inf file and it didn't work so i give up, i am returning to windows 7. Thanks for your help :)

  • @Damour5H I dont know if you did this. I installed the device in my other computer, then I copied the files from my HD into an USB then copied them to a folder in Ubuntu. There i searched through the folders and found the .inf file.

  • Alright, I'm a newb here....I have windows 7....I downloaded the windows installer for unbuntu in order to dual boot.

What happens if I can't get online at all in Unbuntu? (I only have a wireless connection and unbuntu isn't finding it)

Is there a way I can do this through windows or what do i need to do?

  • @Twisteddreamer78 download the windows driver on your Windows OS. also download the .deb files from the link I posted below this video. Transfer those files to your Ubuntu OS via flash drive, etc.

    Then follow my video.

  • Getting ready to do this for my Hawking HWP54G Wireless Card. I hope it works!

  • THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!"!!!!!!!!! SO MANY NIGHTS TYING TO FIGURE THIS OUT AND YOU DO IT IN 5 MINUTES!!! :D :D :D

  • @randomoniium glad I could help

  • @PhalanxJC funny, I spent an hour trying to find the source of that sound. I still haven't replaced the battery though, I just took it out. I'm too lazy... Thx for the advice.

  • It recognizes it but it still wont connect it. any ideas?

  • @rushsubdivisions you might have to blacklist something instead. for example:

(add these 2 lines to file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ralink.conf)

    blacklist rt2800usb

    blacklist rt2x00usb

  • Thank you for the quick update!

  • Thank you very much!!!

  • The link just takes me to a toolbar download page. Any suggestions?

  • @revnobody I almost posted this as well, but look closely on that page for a "Save file to your PC click here."

  • @revnobody use the new link in the description

  • hey mate

thanks for the vid!! i have followed the instructions right through to the end and the system still isn't recognising it so i will keep having a play

for a noob this Ubuntu stuff is hard..

  • @matjnewton you might have to use a different driver. The driver inside the zipped file is only a sample.
