I dont have a dobbie yet, but all my dogs just have grown up with my horses, and they bark like that over there food, and my horses do the same thing. I think if you have a horse that is tolerant, then just introduce them as a puppy. but these guys are cute. Beautiful horses by the way. :)
It depends on the character of the animals; Tango (the dobie in the video) will chase a cat that runs away, but not one that doesn't. He's a wimp, our horses know it. We had the horses and sheep when we got him so he just kind of grew up around them.
I don't know your pets, but I'd introduce them for short intervals under controlled conditions, try to make it a positive experience, and stop the encounter *before* it has a chance to escalate. Reward calmness, and gradually lengthen the visits.
This is no word of a lie, back in 77 my friend had a dobbie that liked to chase cars ...and trains...he tried to bite the wheels on the train and was instantly decapitated...some of them are to inbred or something, and others are great dogs.
Well, this dobie is from a good bloodline and he's a great pet. Though I think it doesn't matter how good the genes are; if an active, intelligent dog like a dobe is left to its own devices it's bound to get up to some stunts.
years ago .. my dobie went one step further and nipped the horse's ear half off..the horse is afraid of dogs to this day... word to the wise.. bentheyre
ouch-- did the horse's ear heal? Thanks for the comment :)
Tango (the dobie in the video) got a small kick from a horse when he was a pup so he usually stays away. I personally believe he's much too big a wimp to bite, especially since the horses are not afraid of him in the slightest- they actually chase him around given the chance. But, you're right, all animals can be volatile.
The horse is like,.."You looking at me,..you looking at me."
