  • When I first heard the wailing guitar on Muddy Jesus on my car radio back in 1995, I pulled off the road to make sure I heard who it was. I heard Ian Moore and ran to buy Modernday Folkore and later I stumbled across his first Capricorn CD. He has since cut the hair, moved to Wash and evolved away from the Texas blues style but he is still a soulfull and fine artist who simply has the guts and integrity to follow his own heart and not that of the masses who once worshipped him as the next SRV.

  • bitchin' sound@

  • Ian and the original band will be doing 6 shows next month in Texas and Oklahoma, focusing on the 1st 2 records. For those of you that miss this phase, this is the time. dates posted @ ianmoore.com

  • This is some good stuff here.

  • Wow, He looks like such a kid.

  • i swear he had a mental breakdown. But now he is touring with jason mraz

  • I miss his long hair. Saw him in Austin earlier this year. Saw him MANY times in the late 90's and his music is always changing. His early stuff is still my favorite. Wish he performed in Austin more!

  • what do you mean "back when Ian was cool"? He's still cool in my book.

  • @bjtgwalters Agreed! He IS the music, NOT a phase, NOT producers, NOT record companies. This is HIM RAW. And it should be appreciated by those that respect him.

  • I saw Ian live in Toronto back in the 90s (I think it was at the El Mocambo or the Silver Dollar) and it was one of the best blues-rock shows I've ever seen.

  • Ian is cool... unlike your comment.

  • Dig it Ian!

Money is great and blowing up but keep making ya art man!

  • Is it me or does it seem like the lead singer for kenny Wayne Shepherd early band was biting off of Ian. Blue on Black. Rock on Ian.

  • i didn't realize that he was as well known as being on Letterman back then. Very nice. Still: it's a shame that he didn't blow up..or is it? ;)

  • I have always thought of this cat as person of the classic singer/songwriter cut from the cloth of the Austin scene. Beautiful storyteller no matter what style his muse tells him to set the song to... By the way MercuryZebra there is NO SUCH THING AS TYPICAL BLUESY SHIT. Obviously you think any ADG progression is typical. Its about the color between the notes played and the passion that makes that iconic sound. Obviously you're a yankee asshole that nows nothing of the feeling of true blues...

  • wow, Ian has never mentioned that he was on David Letterman's show!!!! I see Paul playing the keys in the background!!!

  • @annamarieintex Paul plays the keys no matter who is on Letterman's stage :-)

  • Ian's music is way better now and light years ahead of where he was when playing that typical bluesy shit you can hear in any good blues club any night of the week. He is so much more original now than he ever was. I LOVE his acoustic playing on songs like "Caroline" and "Kangaroo Lake". He's mixing a new record right now. I love that all his albums are so different. He's too good to pigeonhole into just being some "guitar god", blues-rock player. He is mostly influenced by soul music anyway.

  • Although I disagree with you, and feel his old material was better, I won't debate you on taste. To me, his current stuff sounds so simple; like college emo crap. But, I will debate you on your claim that his old stuff was strickly blues shit, that everyone else was doing. I think if that were true, he wouldn't have the loyal die hard blues fans that he does. Just as original as you think he is now, he was in his blues era. Standard blues was SRV. IMO Ian took it SO far beyond that.

  • Ian was the shit for 2 albums, then he just went to shit. WHY cant he go back to what he was born to do?

  • I've seen Ian over 50 times since 1994 and as recently as last Friday. His music has surely evolved, I think for the better. He's not as bluesy as he once was, but his songs and music are just a poignant and beautiful as they ever were. They also cover a wide range of styles as well. I've come to know him personally as well, as much as you can know someone by talking to them during the shows and he's always been nothing but extremely nice to me, even though I'm sure he thinks I'm a crazy fan

  • Ian Moore is still a brilliant and gifted musician. Better now than he was then.

    He's still "cool."

  • Ian has gone too trendy pop for me. He strarted listening to Neutral Milk Hotel and it went downhill from there. I miss the soulful blues side of him.

  • I agree....a friend of mine traveled all the way to Austin Tx to see Ian and tried to talk with Ian after the show. Ian was rude arrogant and a genuine turd..and that's not the only unpleasant story I've heard..

  • I knew Ian when I lived in the Austin area and he was always a super guy when I was around him. I have not seen nor heard from him since b4 he went to Seattle. But I still think he's cool.

  • I think Ian is a great musician-song writer-vocalist

and I have never seen him live....but I've heard stories from friends who have seen him live..he puts on a good show but isn't friendly back stage.

  • Thats funny cause i saw him in Houston a year ago and he was nothing but pleasant and nice and even thanked me for my interest....hmmmm

  • The stories I heard took place 15 years ago....

maybe Ian is different now that he's older..and

maybe my friend was full of crap..I'd like to see Ian live.

  • Long live ian Moore...cheers from Germany.

  • If you think this was the only time Ian was cool, you've missed out. He's gone on to master new styles, and he remains one of the best singers and guitar players around. His electric playing is great, but I've seen him generate incredible energy in his solo and duo acoustic shows, too. You just have to be to open to it.

  • Ian has always been cool.

    He's a musicians' musician.

I love him and his music.

  • Saw Ian live on Friday and he did some brand new songs! They were amazing! So do NOT give up on Ian and his coolness just yet! He is an amazing talent with so much soul. Go see him live and you will NOT be disappointed.

  • my girlfriend threw this tape away on me.. She got sick of hearing it... now she is gone and Ian Moore is back... He could have been the next great blues rock man but noone really appreciates good music anymore. They all like the discardable songs that dont matter once the radio wants you to smash your stereo if they play the song again.

  • KUDOS! I hope you dropped that bitch like a hot brick!

  • I agree with jnoris777. Ian brings a completely different energy and sound to the stage now; but you can argue that it's just as powerful (if not more) than before.

I honestly think if Ian would of keep going on with this style he would of fallen into the cracks with all the bad ass guitarist (that we all love) but never get get enough attention on the charts: Duarte, Sayce, Nanji, ect...

  • um, hello, ian is still cool. check him live. he still has the same heart.

  • My favorite era too with Ian's music...I guess I'm stuck in a rut! heehee I'm learning to appreciate the newer stuff more and more though:) Great Post!

  • This is great.

  • Ughh! I miss this Ian. I will always follow his work and sadly feel he will be one of those under appreciated artists. He is truly a lyrical and musical genius, all artist evolve. We just have to wait for him to get back to his roots

  • It only got worse when he left Austin, Texas for Oregon! I still remain loyal because of his first 3 albums but I wait for the return of his style from his first album. It's in him but from what I gather he felt that everyone was pushing him toward commercial music on his first couple of albums thus why he has gone INDY.

  • Hey... you recognize some of his old band mates?? Where did Michael or Bukka end up? I really dug Ians work up thru the Green Grass album. Then it just got weird. But yet I'm loyal and keep up with anything he does...and just wait :)

  • No doubt!!! I miss it too!!

  • damn sure wish he would realize how much we miss this stuff!

  • i saw him every chance i got about 6 times he always kicked ass. have not seen him since he has been doing the acoustic thing

    Great performer song writer

  • I use to watch this guy back in 1992 - 1994 play at Cafe on the Square in San Marcos Texas. This is the old Ian Moore look and sound. How Does It Feel and Satisfied were like the stuff (still are). Got to love this guy and all he has been through!

  • Yeah-I picked up this album in 94 right after it came out when I heard the single "How Does It Feel." This was probably late 94-I think "Nothing" was the next single...

  • Same here. I thougnt "nothing" so different from everything I was listening to. My girlfriend at the time was in love with him, so that was kind of cool, I guess. As long as she didn't call me Ian in the sack.

  • I've seen Ian about 10 times;I just cannot believe this is the same guy.

  • Excellent!
