im curious where did u solder that 7th Led for his mouth at.... cause i took apart his head too and replaced his outer leds with bright white and then the lower two red ones...D on the circut board... two bright blue giving kinda a copish look....please message back.... thanks
A robot is a completely autonamous, thinking machine that has a helpful relationship with it's owner.
This is a toy designed to get giggles. It's limited autonamy isn't even close to deserving the name robot. It has no ability to discern who it's master is, let alone what he wants. Heck, it can't even tell if it's in the same room with a person or if it just bumped into a wall or a leg. Completely stupid, remote controled toy.
well, the complete autonomous doesnt have to apply to a robot necessarily. a completely remote controlled robot is a robot nevertheless in mechanical engineering language. autnomous can indicates its manner of locomotion. they use robots in car factories too, and they are preprogrammed robots. its level of ability to interact with outside environment simply indicates the number of functions that can be integrated in its processor unit.. if it has one.
A completely remote controlled anything is not a robot in any lanquage, period. Autonamous has nothing to do with it's locomotion, it could be stationary and be autonamous. Autonamous has everything to do with sensing, understanding, and reacting to the enviroment. You should stop believing Mr. Tilden's ideas on robotics and look at some real worlsd robots and not these wow wee toys.
the thing is, even though autonomous was to be defined as you explained it still comes down to preprograming, the sensory units have to have a programming enabled for it to interact with the actual robot functions. in the strictest senses no robot is autonomous, and as an engineering student I have to deal with this preprogramming part for robots pretty much every step of the way. even the most sophisticated learning robots are a matter of functions detailed in its programmed algorithm.
You're muddying the waters by defining the mechanisim of autonomy with the simulation of autonomy. Hans Moravec is right when he says a simulation that cannot be discerned from reality is therefore, reality. The mechanisim by which true autonomy is achieved is therefore irrelivant.
i dont mean to be disrespectful but same could said about you, it is an engineering prospect that you are interpretting as more of a philosophical definition. basically you just stated mechanism by which true autonomy is achieved is less relevant than the illusion it creates.. or simulation if that sounds better.
You misunderstand and time is not on my side here. I would suggest looking into Mr. Moravec's ideas on computers, robotics, and simulation. Also, Rodney Brooks has some good ideas. But, being an engineering student, I'm sure you are already well read. BTW, a robot is a mechanized philisophical construct as are we all :).

Not a robot. This is a preprogrammed entertainment toy.
Wowee has never made a true robot. These are toys being passed as robots.

and how do you define a robot?

A random, anonymous, drive by insult on someone you don't know. Very nice. Your parents obviously forgot to teach you manners.
