I remember when this was on TV. I don't generally go for opera, but I watched this clear through. By the end, I was standing right straight up.

She was a phenomenal talent. This was a thrilling performance, as I remember it. Half the gay world was sitting up in 2nd 3rd and 4th tiers, screaming for their mothers, in a way. If I'm not mistaken her tenor was Jerry Hadley. I wonder if you have any videotape of her Puritani debut at City Opera; she was a smash in that production!

Amen to both of your observations. I still get goosebumps when I look at my Bev Sills Lucia libetto and see the costume that Gianna is wearing....BIG goosebumps!!
