  • Of course the edge is the one with the best voice, in fact it might have made it alone if he bettered his voice a little bit

  • "one man against the world". We all need inspiration, if not the world would be avery sad and lonely place.

  • i think theyre all charismatic and gifted which is all that matters!!!!People should criticize unless they can do better i dont' see it happening so ill go with what is already vented!!!

  • The Band's version is superior. Nothing against these guitar gods...but that's my 2 cents.

  • Page is overrated and every serious musician knows that.

Only teenage metalheads give Page that much credit.

  • @jgg87 What are you talking about?

  • @jgg87 Awesome songwriter... absolutely sloppy guitarist.

  • @jgg87 you're a fucking retard. Not worth even saying more than that.

  • Why dies everyone bash the edge in this movie please tell me why then I will respond

  • @climey it is because he is nat as good a guitarist as the other two but really it doenst matter to me as long as he plays what he feels

  • @MrLaserprint But the bottom line is he is a good guitarist I dont even really like U2 but I see the impact they have and the live shows but I think it is great with the 3 its a good combo if he wasnt good he wouldnt be playing guitar with U2 one of the greatest bands ever

  • @climey i know, he has a completely different style of playing and he plays a diferent style of music so you can't really compare them very easily

  • White will never be as good as Paige, but HOW CARES? this shouldnt be an argument-rather than a blessing of the 2 generations passing the torch of beautiful REAL music. Lets stop with comparisons. Whomever White passes the torch to next HOPEFULLY wont compare with the contribution Jack will have made. But thats what keeps the cycle going.

  • Get rid of the bog trotter, useless cunt

  • where i can get that song?

  • Even if any times come after this, I will remember the time when I listened to this music.

  • why is everyone all "oh the edge isnt of the same status as White or Page" as if Jack White was anything sitting next to Jimmy Page. not to mention, the Edge (much as i dont like U2, really) has less to prove in the music industry than Jack White. Longevity + Sales prove that. Hence why Jimmy Page is #1 on that stage. Not to mention just pure skill with the guitar.

it should've been Robbie Robertson, who wrote this song, or Slash or Zakk Wylde that was there with them. or those three + Jimmy.

  • @DannyReggin My thoughts exactly! Although The Edge isn't the most technical guitarist, I'd love to see a band copy his playing exactly. He's bloody good at what he does, as is Jack White... But neither one of them can even come close to Page. It would have been awesome to see Robbie Robertson there too! Even Mark Knopfler. Not the greatest guitarist but damn awesome technique.

  • @CrypticMessagesNZ Yeah, Knopfler's a heck of a thing.

  • @CrypticMessagesNZ I have to disagree with Jack White not being as good as Jimmy Page. Yes, Page is an absolute legend but when Jack plays live he absolutely lets it rip and show that he can play with the best of 'em. Check out The Raconteurs playing Blue Veins at Bonaroo.

  • @DannyReggin I'd have to disagree, I think Jack White was way more qualified then you wrote him out to be. Jack has pretty much reinvented blues in the 21st century. He's sold millions of albums and has his own recording company. I also think he's the most versatile of the musicians there, he's played in all kinds of styles and instruments.

  • @IrishYankOC there are better than him bt hes not shit

  • The Edge is shit. He doesn't deserve to be there. He's all effects and very little actual talent. Seeing him there doesn't make me proud to be Irish.

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan would have been way cooler than The Edge. Someone resurrect that guy.

  • I agree that the edge isn't on the same level as white or page, but he's supposed to be a contrast to Jack's minimalist ideas. awesome film

  • @PixieLover908

he's just not a blues guitarist man

  • @gloomyoutlook well the movie isn't about the blues, Its about the electric guitar. He's all about the tech, and that contrasts well with Jack white's minimalist views. The only issue I had is that the edge is more of a soundman than a guitarist.

  • @PixieLover908

You're a soundman! I simply cannot abide by that narrow minded and purist approach to accrediting musicianship. He is very much a guitarist; he simply employs tech to achieve certain sonic qualities.

  • I'm so glad they got this on tape because this would probably never happen again. Great movie.

  • damn, people be hatin on the edge. hes a good guitarist, why the hate? he represents an era and a style unique from the others.

  • I would have enjoyed this movie 100x more if they got john frusciante or gilmour... C'mon, the edge? hes all right but seriously.

  • @MohawkLand05 a different side to guitar playing i can totally see why the edge was included technology wise. John frusciante would of been cool the only problem with that is he played in a band full of the most pretentious pricks imaginable. He is a great player saw sense and left more power to him.

  • @MohawkLand05 Getting Jimmy Page and David Gilmour together would be the deffinition of EPIC.

  • @LizyPage Yes, it would. I'd be very interested in seeing what they came out with. I heard Page wants to record again... so, maybe there is a little hope.

  • @MohawkLand05 It would be awesome... If you get Page's theremin, violin bow playing, mix it with Gilmour's effects and add their amazing skills as guitarists... You'd get heaven :)

  • @LizyPage And Gilmour on lead vocals... that would truly be heaven. Hes underrated as a singer.

  • @MohawkLand05 My god, absolutely. "No Quarter" proves that Page can manage a more progressive sounding rock and Gilmour is an amazing singer... Ok, now I'm mixing their styles in my head xD Wonder why they never came across each other.

  • good melody,vocals,feel.good!

  • /watch?v=cCSX7jUCjxg

  • Does anyone kn where i can find the live version of this?

  • @2424scout1 There is none, this is from a documentary the 3 of them made called "It Might Get Loud", you can find it for sale on the internet

  • excelente union para un tema simbolo

  • 666 likes, i see what you did there

  • Where's the movie part?

  • That's what disappointed me about the whole movie, I wanted more scenes where the three of them jammed without interruption.

  • ?????

  • Jimmy Page + The Edge + Jack White = The White Pages

    Bam

New band right there, and I would pay to see them perform

  • @autokid15 surely edge of the white page?

  • @autokid15 thats still a great band name

  • @autokid15

I'd pay much more not to see the Edge in this movie.

  • @autokid15 I wish I could like this more than once!! That's great!!

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIMMY PAGE!!!!!

  • Maybe also Jimmy Page is English, The Edge is Irish and Jack White is American?

  • I wouldn't change any. They aren't there because they are necessarily the "best" guitarists available, they are there because they are each completely different guitarists. Jimmy is there because, well, he's jimmy page, jack is this hard "punk" rocker who has put in old blues elements to create something that hasn't really been done the same way, the edge is definitely the least talented technically but no one can use effects better than he can. They all have something to teach each other and us

  • Jack White and The Edge have no business sharing a stage with Jimmy Page.

  • @iangcunningham that is probably, one of the dumbest comments ive ever read.

  • @justingarman how is that dumb? The Edge can barely play without his precious effects pedals, and is put to shame through the whole movie by both Jack White and Page. He butchers Stairway to Heaven which is a very basic guitar riff and one of the first most people learn. White is a great guitar player granted, but not on Jimmy Page's level. If they wanted modern guitar "gods" where are John Mayer or Frusciante, both of whom are much more accomplished than Jack White?

  • @iangcunningham thats like comparing any drummer to keith moon or john bonham, jack white deserves to be there, but not the edge. they could have gotten steve vai or joe satriani

  • @ricksrowdys Really? The Edge doesnt deserve to be there? I do believe the maker of this film went on to do a documentary on U2 as a whole after this. His playing is very good (take a look at his earlier works before his heavy dabble into effects units) It is the style with which he plays that sets him appart. Sure, anyone with a delay may be able to play his songs, but no one can write the songs that he writes. The obvious isnt obvious till it is obvious, correct?

  • @ricksrowdys He has simply pioneered a new style of guitar that has been right infront of us with the advent of effects. Just because you can play his songs, doesnt mean you could have wrote them to begin with. Surely one must compare the styles of the time with the works he put out and realize that he is extremely innovative.

  • @ricksrowdys All three of these musicians deserve their spot. Page has done incredible amounts of innovation for instrument and continues to be a heavy influence on today's work. Both Jack and the Edge shall be charged with showing us where the guitar instrument will be taken into the future. But I suppose if you wanted the whole movie to be one giant "whos who" of mainstream guitarists, then your right Joe and steve should be in it, However, I respectfully disagree...

  • @NIARTcar jimmy page is the entire reason i started playing guitar, you don't have to tell me that, he is a god, jack white is the one of the best guitar players of our generation but the music that the edge writes along with bono isn't hard write. i play and write music and writing something similar isn't hard. i'm just saying that there were and still is better guitar players from his era

  • @ricksrowdys This is where my "the Obvious isnt obvious till its obvious" comment comes in. Sure, it seems an easy write now that a path has been forged, but from scratch the music he has created is vastly different than anything else at the time and arguably continues to be even today. I don't measure brilliance by just skill alone, there are many factors to look at; ingenuity, innovation, originality, among skill and others are all part of the consideration.

  • @ricksrowdys His works may not be complex or meticulous in nature but they huge leaps forward in the perception of the uses of both this instrument as well as these effects. With that in mind, they each have qualities that make them great. The best part of this film is that the documentor was able to span such a vast amount of music with these three musicians. I have a deep seeded respect for all of them. My musical repertiore encompases many of their works due to their importance....

  • @ricksrowdys and the amount you can learn from them all. I believe that we may not see it just yet, but the contributions of these two young(er) musicians will become apparent with time. With age comes nostalgia and I think this is a classic example of that. Just give it some and consideration, and remember that all music has some significance. Never dismiss a peice until you fully understand it, for there may be something left to learn for us all..

    cheers

  • @ricksrowdys Hey then, if it's so simple to write and play something like Edge, why aren't you in the most successful band on earth right now ?

Looks simple when it's already written.

It's a lot harder to write it in the first place.

Beside, prove me you can write a guitar part that sounds as amazing as one of Edge's.

  • @Mac0Phisto I love how most guitarists think they can write better than someone else, then pussy out when they're called on it.

I SUCK at writing music, I focus on my playing more than writing skills.

  • I have to admit that i cried on the end of the movie.

  • Does anyone have the version withoout all that talking ????

  • Jack White rocks.

  • i just wish i could get the full song without the talking.

  • anyone have the the tabs for how they play this?

  • Love this song!!! saw jimmy the edge and jack do it liked it even more

  • Jimmy is more adept at the guitar, but they all have their moments of sounding genius. Jack is harder on the ears sometimes. Hard to listen to.

  • @cameltooth1 Thats certainly his aesthetic, but I'd say White is certainly a better guitar player than The Edge is. A lot of what both they do is effects, but the Edge just kind of jangles chords and lets the effect do the work where White has more pure energy. I think the result is that White is a much better soloist, although neither are as good as Page. By the way, anyone else think that Jeff Beck should have been in this movie?

  • @ACDC392333 Jeff Beck would b as good as Page in this documentary. Jeff is more lead guitar than Jimmy though. White is probably a more soulful guitarist than Edge.

  • @cameltooth1 I just meant as a fourth. I suppose the idea was to include three different generations, so in that case if I had to choose a replacement then I would pick someone like Jerry Cantrell to replace the Edge.

  • @ACDC392333 Hell yeah. Alice In Chains early stuff is mesmerizing.

  • @ACDC392333 even someone like mike mccready from pearl jam would be good too, i'm not a u2 fan

  • @sasquatch384 Yeah but you can't have McCready without Stone Gossard since the reason their guitar attack is so good is how they trade off and play together. They were even ranked together as one when Rolling Stone did an article about modern guitar gods a couple years back lol

  • The Edge is more tolerable when singing. He is a more tolerable singer than Jack White. Jack talks about interesting things musically or whatever, but when he plays i hate what i hear, personally. The Edge is alright. He seems pretty cool. Jimmy is too reliant on the damn distortion pedal, but what he plays is great.

  • I was so happy when I saw this DVD at me mates house! Long Live Zeppelin and Stripes!

  • As much as I don't like U2, Edge is a great player. Out of these 3, he's the odd one out because he embraces so much technology. Page and White are probably my favorite 2 musicians of all time. Fantastic film.

  • "...chorus..."

  • hey - i know this tune....

  • Edge is fucking great.

  • This is like watching Kiss trying to play Howlin' Wolf. No clue about the soul they're trying to cover.

  • @RollingOrmond

Oh hell yes. I just put this on because I saw it by chance after listening to the the clasic by one of the classics for the upteenth time. It may be worse then ACDC doing Gorden Lightfoot !!!

  • @RollingOrmond Page and White play the blues a whole lot.

  • 1:50 Amazing acoustic solo

  • so mediocre ... 3 rock stars and no place to go

  • Does it occur to any of you halfwits that the guitarists here were chosen beacuse of their individual approach to playing the electric guitar , and not because the filmmaker is implying that these are the 3 best guitarists available ?' shoulda had Clapton , shoulda had EVH shoulda had Frusciante , shoulda had Srv ..... you miss the point .

  • It's funny how people talk shit about the the edge and JACK WHITE like they are any better than them they don't have Grammys or record deals they probably have never even written their own song just stop talking

  • Jimmy page, Carlos Santana, and Eric Clapton

  • @ledzeppelin689 instead of clapton it should b hendrix if of course he was still alive

  • @Uknowhoo971 yeah definetely

  • This movie should have starred Jack White, John Mayer and every other half wit who thinks the first two can play blues - then the door should be locked and never opened again

  • @ruben1kord wait wut?

  • The weight my arse. Its an overlong shite song about some fanny or other and White fucks around looking the part for the whole movie but ends up as if he was in a pub a tent at a folk festival which is probably where he would be if he wasnt such a self promoting bullshitter. Hes a big nuthin and wont be renmembered for anything.

  • @ruben1kord chill man, jack white is an excellent innovator when it comes to guitar. all three of these guitarists, actually, are incredible innovators: page with the violin bow and some of the things he would do with whole lotta love, also how he and the rest of zep redid old blues tunes; the edge with his awesome sound effects and talent; jack white with his bluesy sound and amazing skill on the guitar

  • This sad crap was all Jack Whites doing ---he's a wanker. He gets the rock god hero guitarist and the most innovative soundscape guitarist together but because White is out of his depth with his pathetic efforts with wire and nails excused as "keeping it real" he ends the movie getting shown up for what he is. Out of tune and out of his league.

  • edge sucks!!! fuck all without his wall of effects!

  • wtf is michio kaku doin in there?

  • @lyles32386 who is michio kaku?~~If I could be so bold ~~

  • @Cincinnatus1869 Michio Kaku is an Asian physicist. Jimmy Page looks like him in this picture.

  • @Cincinnatus1869 He's a theoretical physicist

  • @what9999999333i . thank you sir for the info.

  • @lyles32386 hah that's what I thought when I saw it also!

  • i love how jack makes the edge look like a total bitch on guitar in this movie

  • @larahill82 You missed the entire point of the movie if that is how you feel.

  • one of the best sounds ever caught on tape right there. also a really great movie.

  • why do you guys judge by how they play? the movie is not about guitarists, but it's about guitars that's why they invited those three reinterprent guitars. but if it was about guitarists, then, there should have been just jimmy, clapton and may !

  • @AZARTI5 three guys from the same generation playing the same kind of stuff! Would've been a total bore! This movie is about showing three guitarists from three completely different eras, genres and aproaches to music and guitar in the specific. Everyone stop bitching about three people who made history, go back into your little bedrooms shredding your little guitar heroes and let people upload videos on youtube without having always to deal with you guitarfags who think to always know better.

  • if jimmy paige chooses to play with any musicians, you can bet they have talent in spades.

  • Edge is a genius!

  • Got to love THE BAND.

  • You're a dick and a loser if you have anything bad to say about anyone of these guys. Your a sad littlle pion that doesn't know his place or at least can't handle it! Be happy for the happiness that others can provide!

  • All three of these guys can evoke emotions that take ourselves outside of ourselves and that fuckin rocks....and that's fuckin cool and if you don't think so..you ain't!!!

  • With all respecto to Mr.Edge here...i don't think that he is the one to be there...maybe John Frusciante or John Mayer

  • Comment removed

  • @feluredhot I agreed with you until you mentioned your alternatives. I don't even like U2 but Edge is definitely more qualified than those two.

  • @Frostdaddy88 Yes...maybe you are right...maybe is more qualified than mayer...but frusciante is way better guitar player than The Edge...

  • @feluredhot apples and oranges, i love both Edge and Frusciante.

  • @feluredhot I don´t think the film is about gifted players, but about music, and The Edges approach towards guitar playing is so unique, so effective and simple that it frustrates lots of players. I think we all should learn from him, it´s probably more important to look for and develop our own sound and language than practicing the same scales, tricks, and skills. I love John Frusciante´s music so much... I think John Mayer is a great player, but not an innovator... maybe I´m wrong.

  • @vierdiez I see your point and maybe you're right...maybe is because i don't like the music made by The Edge...but i think that the way that he combines sounds it's great...because no one have done that beforet...maybe it's for that

  • @feluredhot I just think The Edge represents a huge challenge to any guitarist looking for a personal and distinctive style, I guess that very few players can say they are more original than him.

  • BEST SOLO EVER

  • chords please

  • @superepicmanfly

    intro G F#/G E D C G

    verse G B C G

    chorus G F#/G C

  • We need a movie with Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello and Colin Meloy of The Decemberists.

  • Gotta love opinions.

  • saw zep in 77 and jack white is the only bright spot in music in the last 5 yrs.the edge and u2 biggest of the 80 s cant get enough of this shit.i must be dreaming.DONT WAKE ME.....

  • I love the part where they are dividing the singing parts and leave the middle part for jimmy and jimmy looks at them " I can't sing". by middle I mean the Edge took the low end and Jack taking the high part

  • even if you don't like jack white, our generation doesn't exactly have the most selection for great guitarists

  • @RenegadeEntertainmen matt bellamy deserves notice but i think jack white suited this combination well, not so sure how well matt would have fitted in with these guys.

  • @RenegadeEntertainmen

You just have to look harder for them. Guys like Tosin Abasi are masters, and if you like the classic rock/bluesy sound Dan Auerbach does some great stuff

  • @RenegadeEntertainmen Joe Bonamassa...

  • @RenegadeEntertainmen who the fuck don't like jack white

  • @EnergizerBunny804 all those people on the comments who said that...

  • @RenegadeEntertainmen no kidding ..at least he has a distinctive style and a vision . I think his stripped down almost primitive approach to guitar playing and recording , is great because too much of todays rock music is overproduced and bland. Jack plays like it used to be played and 'keeps it real ' (apologies for the out of date expression )

  • @RenegadeEntertainmen Jack White is also an absolutely amazing musician

  • @RenegadeEntertainmen He's pretty fucking brilliant, he has his own style and he cuts back on fancy licks and scales. He's very much like Page by both being inspirational guitarists for making unholy sounds with their guitars and inspiring a generation to bring back blues and rock. And coming from an accomplished guitarist, I don't wanna sound like a dick or anything but he actually has a very similar playing style to Hendrix. Watch some live shows and you'll see.

  • Jack White AND the Edge are both awesome for the fact that they are sitting down and actually listening to what Jimmy Page is telling them...as such superstars that they both are, they are hearing it from the FIRST superstsar...

  • @onestop67 the first ? Elvis and the Beatles may have something to say about that.

  • @Cincinnatus1869 oh c'mon...I give Elvis and The Beatles their due to being the first to bring this style of music out...I thought we were talking about an individual "guitar" player...

  • @onestop67 well in that case , Chuck Berry , Steve Cropper , Muddy , Buddy Guy , Lonnie Mack , Link Wray all were superstars before Page . Page is my the main man to me , but he is not the first guitar superstar

  • I bet 'Edge' is all broken up that you all don't think he is a good player . While he fills stadiums , collects millions ,and hangs around with Jimmy Page , he is deep inside hurting because you bunch of cretins have a negative opinion of him

  • @Cincinnatus1869

    Very well said.

  • @Cincinnatus1869 I honestly don't care whether he is or isn't broken up about my opinion on his music. All I've said in the past is that I think he's a overrated guitarist and he isn't as good as people think he is.

  • @MunisAwesome well , your opinion doesn't trump anyone else's . Funny that a person should have to be told that . It kinda goes without saying .

  • @Cincinnatus1869 Oh I'm sorry, Did I say my opinion trumped every other opinion? No. I simply told you what I thought, Funny that you would think that. So I had to be told that my opinion isn't any better then everyone else's? I never said it was better then anyone elses. I never said my opinion was right. I was simply telling you what I think. You shouldn't assume that someone who has an opinion is being arrogant and believes his opinion trumps others.

  • @MunisAwesome Your opinion is useless... so stfu ... Get over yourself. You don't compare to anyone of these guys or we would know your name. Dbag...that's what you r if if you want to debate the merits of anyone of these guys.

  • @sssmitty30 I never said my opinion was useful, I simply have a opinion. You can react like a cunt or discuss it with me. Clearly you've chosen to be a total cunt. I don't know if you knew this, But people have opinions. Doesn't mean their opinion is right, I never said my opinion was right, I never said I was a better guitarist so I have no idea why you're bringing up the word "Compare". I only ever said I thought he was overrated. If you donn't like to hear opinions go move to North Korea.

  • @Cincinnatus1869 ...like me...

  • @Cincinnatus1869 I've always respected Edge as a guitarist. Bono might be a moron but...I still listen to 'rattle and hum' and the 'joshua tree'

  • @zyclonb6 some chick took me to see u2 a many yrs ago .I left with the definite impression that their guitarist knows what the hell he is doing .

  • @Cincinnatus1869 I think he's more reliant on opinion of his colleagues, proffesionalists - but I personally think he's the Ultimate Master of Looking For New Guitar Sounds.

  • Where repete mode ! xD

  • watched the documentary ages ago and still remember it enough to come and rewatch some moments...

it's fkng amazing how some oposite views on music make these musicians .. all of them too good!

and i can't go without saying you can see how white and edge idolize Page, he's one of the greatest.

But i'm still in daze about the way White sees music and lives it, how he'd rather fight than having it easy.

White will be one of the guitarrists that will mark "this age"

  • all i know about Jack white is that he has turned out some fantastic albums

  • Page is definitely a legend, but Jack White's style and approach totally carries this song and makes it relevant again for today.

  • I like him.

  • they way Jack White sings on this song is just great! (its totally organic ;-))

  • Dont be kidded. Jack White may not be a legend just yet. But in 10.,20 or even 30 years time we will all look back and talk about this guy the same way we talk about the greats.. He is up there with the best in my opinion.

I was brought up on Floyd zepp the doors and the like, But jack rocks my fuckin rectum anyday.
