Luke 16:24 And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’
@aaroncatling you need to do your homework christianity is a relationship with Jesus not a religion. also the Bible backs up science. some of the greatest scientist are christians
(42) And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
(42) And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
Funny how that woman kept saying 'the Gospel is about love'. That's half of it. It's also about sin, unrighteousness and the wrath of God. But we often 'forget' those parts.
If I observed this video correctly, I see one booth giving away free bottles of water on a sunny day to thirsty people... and another person coming to object to what they are doing...
Could this be in any way similar, to ...say....a person going around healing people, and then being told not to do it on a Sabbath, because it violates "God's laws"?
I think the lady was right in that they complimented each other very well - (but this "encouragement/confrontation could & Should have been done in a more private setting as a witness to those who don't know Jesus there at the festival) - there is a time to meet people's felt needs (of thirst) and a time to reach their mental state too.
Why not go and tell people the Gospel rather than pick on these people? What's the matter with you. You post this stuff in front of the world. There are too many John Wayne Christians spoiling for a fight. Of course the water bottle thing was dopey, but so is this.
You made a total jerk of yourself. The festival in no way is an appropriate place for you to have a public argument with your brothers and sisters in Christ. You embarrassed yourself and most importantly Jesus. Save your griping for later and have that conversation at an appropriate time and place.
Conviction that is not under rooted in love makes the possessor of that conviction obnoxious and the dogma that is possessed becomes repulsive...that being said: Intent is prior to content, to give truth to him who loves it not, is to only give him more multiplied reasons for misinterpretation.
Um, I want to encourage you all? Didn't sound encouraging to me. Why don't you just say exactly what you mean, you can't be rebuking and judgemental in a polite way.
The gospel message of Christ's life, death & resurection for the forgiveness of sins and our salvation should ALWAYS be included every single church function in some way shape or form.
I read a story that makes "seeker friendly" churches seem anything but friendly. The guy who testified about it was a preacher invited to speak at one of these churches, and they told him just before delivering the message that he was not to do an altar call or ask people if they wanted to accept Jesus as Lord. Now that's just down right anti-Christ, to me.
@ProximaB Um, you are the sort of person to whom this video chastises. Do they want to accept Jesus as Lord? Mmm-mmm-mmm. HE IS LORD WHETHER YOU ACCEPT HIM OR NOT! THE AX HAS ALREADY FALLEN! THE TREE HAS BEEN LAID WASTE! HE IS COMING WITH FIRE! WITH FIRE! REPENT, FOR HE IS LORD! You can take your altar calls and your acceptances to Hell, for that's right where they'll be.
And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
I was once a member of the very church responsible for this nonsense Vineyard Community Church in Cincinnati. I had recently converted when I joined, was born again before I joined - the product of an experience in which I was convicted and moved by the very Presence and Power of the Spirit of God - but having joined this silly church, I found myself becoming stunted in my growth. I became passive in spirit, unresponsive to Christ.
Churches like VCC ignore the believer, reject expository preaching, they refuse to answer or engage doctrinal discussions, and they make everything about the unbeliever. I recall being told once in what was supposed to be a Bible study that I should not use the term Pharisee even in passing reference b/c the people in the class might not know what it means. How about explaining it to them then, huh?!! I am still efforting to recuperate from the mess they put me in. Pray for me, please.
It is quite ironic that they were passing out bottles of water yet, failed to quote the very scripture you pointed out about Jesus the Christ being the everlasting water that we will never thirst from. Why didn't they put that on the bottles? Goes to show that their purpose is not to share the Gospel but to win over converts to their church. Sad.
Saying no strings attached is weak. Also, you don't pray with unbelievers, unless they are making a confession of faith. God doesn't hear the prayers of the unrighteous unless it is a call to be saved and forgiven. Stop wasting prayers with unrepentent and defiled sinners unless they are confessing sins to God in repetence.
God bless you for standing for the truth. If they were not preaching the gospel, I thank God that you confronted them about it. By God's grace (if it is His) He will use your words to convict them to realize it is commanded of them to preach the Gospel. Your gentleness in expressing to them biblical truth was good to see. May God continue to grant you boldness in the face of worldly methods of trying to share God.
Jesus often healed people before leading to repentance. Interesting that your fruit for this outreach was not salvations of the lost, but berating a church. Post some videos showing the awesome fruit of your ministry, and testimonies of those that have come to know Jesus through your preaching-that's worth something, not this display of self-righteousness. Seems like you would show those testimonies instead of this... do you have any?
@bbocakz, isn't showing off his "fruit" of his ministry the same as what you accuse him of? Being self righteous? U have it all backwards buddy. This was a great video and good example of how to approach those who may be mislead into such nonsense as using commercial tactics to "win souls" for Christ. As the Word says, we preach Christ and Him crucified. THAT is the gospel. These people were just being nice but nice isn't what we r called to do.
You are an idiot for posting this. You are full of pride in your own self. We are to strive to be unified in the body of Christ (see Eph 4) not cause divisions based on how we share the gospel.
I can see your filled with love there calling him an "idiot". What are we to do when we ARE divided already? What do you make of Paul saying "if any man preaches any other gospel than the one I preached let him be accused"? Clearly there is a call in scripture to hold fast to the word of God and to rebuke those that stray from it.
You are absolutely right. Unity needs to be for the sake of biblical truth and not for the sake of unity, otherwise you invite all sorts of false teachings in.
You call someone an idiot and then tell them how 'we' are supposed to minister? Wow. It's now how we share the gospel; it's whether the true gospel is really shared. Tons of churches filling up with false converts.
I agree with you that the Gospel is the main thing. BUT I also agree with jpmckown, maybe it was just their job to pass out water, especially if they were unable to articulate the Gospel. Perhaps they are doing the gospel a favor by not butchering it, innoculating hearers.
I tried giving out free water bottles (deer creek) along with tracts and doing the "good person test" at a flea market. They said I couldn't pass out the water b/c it takes business from the vendors, and they paid a lot more than I did for my table. Weird, eh? Anywho, very brave for challenging them. Perhaps we could do that and leave them with a HBKS cd.
Hello, We must be careful of who we judge. Who are we to judge someone elses servant. We must realize that just because someone doesn't do exactly what we do that we are quick to judge them... There are many parts to the body of Christ. Maybe it was your job to relay the Gospel and their job to pass out the water. God bless
What you are saying sounds good however we are to judge with "righteous judgment" which I believe this gentleman did so in pointing out the error they had made. And it is EVERY christians job to preach the gospel, Although the gesture was a nice one, God did not say "Go into the world and hand out bottled water to every creature". Remember, we can't get into heaven with works However, I can see your point and where both sides are coming from. God Bless. John 7:24,Mark 16:15
Gosh, how sad that they were so blind to the heart of the Gospel. Props for stepping out there and challenging them. Though reaching temporal needs could be used by God in various ways, people have twisted the Gospel and adopted methods which are foreign to the Scriptures. The accounts that we have of Jesus' ministry clearly relay to us that He was all about teaching and preaching the Gospel; all else was secondary to that. Hell awaits the masses (Matt. 7:13-14). We must preach repentance!

I despise the seeker church movement, but attacking them for giving out water is like attacking Typhoid Mary because she has a hangnail.

What I see in these comments is an attitude of
"all one thing and none of the other".
Why not have the healthy balance of an external focused church, as well as solid foundational truth of the incorruptible Word of God !
Balance is crucial
