  • really, just really beautiful! (:

  • I really think this could stand on its own with out lyrics. Very zen-like. Look forward to hearing more.

  • Ha-ha(Nelson laugh) nicotine patch!!!! Addict for life........I'm not saying that I not a nicotine addict! XD I think it's funny that I was smoking during this video!

Sullivan this rocks, you're leaving your father to breath in your dust! Congrats!!!!! :D

  • wow. thts really cool. post more(:

u guys should totally come to new zealand(:

  • fantastic! amazing so so so pretty! he should come out with an instirmental album!

  • So here i come...after all these comments....

Well Sullivan, I can see you have the love of playing from your dad! That's beautiful! Don't ever lose it! And the rest will come! I think your pretty good!

(I've a son your age...and he's playing all day long if he gets the chance!)

  • Wow Sullivan, this song is really beautiful. When I first heard it I wanted to hear what lyrics you would put with it. But now when I listen to it, I close my eyes and it reminds me of when I would sit on the beach with a bon fire and just watch the waves roll in. Thanks for writing it.

  • i dont know if you guys read these but that is absolutely fantastic PLEASE post more, James next time you come to australia for a convention (if you came back) please bring sullivan so i can get a photo with you both. Meeting you was a dream come true.

  • muy bien. you are quite a musician there mijo. (pretend you can here me clapping) i am very impressed, really. keeping it going and dont let anyone tell u different.

  • Wow, he has talent like his father, no question.

  • That's excellent. I really enjoyed how Sully played such a versatile piece. Didn't keep it safe, ya know. Thanks to keeping the skills going in the family. Kudos, and nice job. Good to listen to.

  • my son just showed me this video--- he is 11 plays guitar... pretty great for him to see such talent in another youngster..... (I then realized who you were....btw... I am a late to be introduced to Buffy..) So this is purely just to say it is great to see such great music out of a family! --- Thanks! (from a austin texas music mama and son...)

  • That was great!...Damn you talent having people! *shake fist* It's okay, I'm just jealous, lol...every instrument I've ever tried to play I suck at...and I can't write the music to save my life, haha.

But that was great! Kinda had a stereotypical "Irish sound" to it to me...I might be crazy though, who knows...maybe both....

  • what tuning you in?

  • Wow. This song is really great. I listened to it a lot. I love the father and son thing that you two have going on. It really works.

  • Whoa, with the negative comments. That's what is so annoying about youtube. Anyway, this is really cute, the father and son thing. What is on James's arm, is that a smoking patch? Song was pretty good, and you've only been writing for a year. Keep it up!

  • nice playing you guys are great

  • Loving the sound of this one alot, weither it has lyrics or not its still beautiful and I think its great honestly that you both are collaberating on it :)

  • Sully this is beauitful,I love it.Tell Dad to put alot more viedosof you and him on you tube. Tell dad that the lighting needs to be lighter, so that we can see you and dad alot better. I love you both. dads friend Donna Vemich-keep up the good work, also it would be nice to see some pictures of you and dad on his web site.

  • Actually Sullivan, it'd be better to not post photos of yourself online until you're 35. No, really.

Hi Donna. Seen you around at conventions.

  • @noneedtositdown Awesome! This is actually my daughters account but she lets me hop on when I come visit and knows how much I adore James!

  • Sounds great!

  • Going by other comments, my lack of musical training is going to be pretty blatant here...but I kinda thought this one had lots of chord repetition for too long, especially at the beginning, making it sorta boring. *ducks from rotten fruits & vegetables* It's quite possible the melody of the lyrics will improve on the overall sound because the guitar is the accompaniment to them. Hope I haven't offended you. Like I said, limited musical training. Mostly hereditary love & sense for it.

  • You should go on a world tour together :) <3

    love from Sweden

  • Me and my friends hope that James can come to Portugal very soon to we listen your beautiful voice :)

Sorry the mistakes, but here in Portugal we don´t learn English very well xD

    Cheers ;)

  • Here in Portugal we spend a lot of time talking about Marsters´ career... We enjoy all the musics and projects where he works...

I am sad when I see that James isn´t coming Portugal. And when in is site he had some public appearances, I can´t see him because he is in other country.

  • hi :) I´m talking of Portugal, a beautiful country, where James is well known... I´m a 15 year-old and one of my best friends loves his songs. Me too... :)

I think the lyrics are amazing and James is so wonderful! :)

  • i like this one the best. it's really calming and melodious.

love Sullivan's face when the camera pans to him! so funny

btw love the dresser in the background really cool.

    great playing Sullivan :)

  • Dude, that was AWESOME!

I really need to start playing.

  • I can't believe that Sullivan started to play just one year ago ! he's very gifted (or is it talentuous in English ? I can't remember), please let us know when the lyrics are ready ...By the way, James, when will you and give a concert in Paris ? come on guy, we wait for you !

  • Beautiful melody! I'd love to hear some lyrics to compliment the chords.

    <3 you both!

  • Wish I could play the guitar like that :)

    Well done.

  • cool

  • Geweldig. Ga zo door!

    (Love it. Keep it up!)

  • en toute objectivité je trouve cela tres joli!

  • You´re awsome, really good

  • Sullivan, you are an awesome guitar player! Keep it up!!!

  • I wish i could play guitar haha! I only write and sing. Ur great!

  • Sounds like a song i wrote called Under My Skin. If hes only been playing a year, he's a lot better than i was at that stage.

Hes got talent for one thing.

Keep it up Sullivan*Gives the thumbs up*

  • still got that patch on, ay james? okay, to all the people who think Sullivans song was bad, should not even bother writing their opinnions. Sullivan has been playing guitar for 1 year when this clip was uploaded. and thats extreamly good for 1 year of guitar practise. this boy is goin to be so talented in the future. great video. Sullivan, your doing great, keep up the good job. Lillian xx

  • Love your song Sullivan, I had acoustic guitar lessons for a year and all I accomplished was playing spanish ballads, I eventually had to give it up due to my studies but have regretted it ever since... One piece of advice from me: "Never give up something you love for something that you have to do... instead MAKE time for it..."

Good luck with any further songs! :-D

    xoxo Anouk

  • It completely amazes me that he's gotten this good in such a short time! Sullivan, I hope you undestand what a great talent you have. I took guitar (and piano) lessons briefly when I was young but I never never seemed to have much luck getting my left hand and right hand to work independently of each other. So don't ever take your talent for granted!

    Best wishes,

    Jenna M

Btw, I think it's really cool that your "one year today" falls on my birthday! ;)

  • That is really good. It has kind of an irish dance rhythem to it. It would be a really great piece to do irish dance improv to. Sullivan is a really good guitar player keep it up dude.

  • james

    sullivan

  • :) sullivan rock's!!! sfkaslñjdkasjdijqWIDJASKLDNKJASPIOSAJKXNlnsklanlkdnasklcnlak

    hahaha

  • Oh, & James, Musically, i think you're at your best live, just you & a guitar far over the CDs

There is a purity in that.

I've just seen & heard clips, never have gotten to see you perform, I'm so poor, I'll probably never will, unless i sell one of those elusive screenplays I've written. Which, BTW, if i have control, you'll have a job if you want it.

After all, i rediscovered my writing & found myself via accidentally stumbling upon your music, never even knew your name before that ('06)-xo-H

  • that was absolutely beautiful, i am in awe of the kid.

made me think of wind.weird, right? of love, a good instrumental behind sweet scenes of a couple maybe.

1st of my screenplay i get to have some creative control over, I'd SO, tap into Sullivan for musical contributions.

He has a really great almost ethereal feel to his playing. Honestly, James, i love your music for the lyrical content & how i identify with that, But musically you're not as good a fit for my taste. Luv ya anyway, tho' :P

  • holy cow. He writes this stuff on his own? okay, totally jealous. haha. he is lucky to have a dad that spends time with him and encourages him to use his talents. Not all kids are as lucky. now all i wonder is, will he be acting anytime soon? DUN DUN DUN! haha. us theater geeks gotta stick together.

  • Another fantastic song! Be careful James, he might surpass you! Hahaha <3

  • I feel like I'm on a holiday somewhere nice and enjoy a nice dinner while listening to this wonderful music.

Thanks for sharing that with us.

  • just peacefull, like a mediterraneen creek under morning sunshine.

  • One of my friends posted a link to this. I like it. As is with just the guitar, it is very, very nice.

Kind of soothing to my flu jangled nerves.

  • way to go sully!

  • It's wonderful. I adore this music.

Happy birthday Mr Marsters. Поздравляю и папу, и сына с праздником!

  • Sullivan is very talented. Keep up the good work. I look forward to hearing more.

On a different note. I would like to wish James a Happy Birthday. I hope you have a wonderful day and year. Thanks for sharing you talent with us.

  • Absolutely beautiful! I don't even think it needs lyrics; I think it works well as an instrumental piece. Keep up the good work, Sullivan!

    Oh, and Happy Birthday James!!!

  • That was great. . Thankyou for sharing -Your son is very talented i dont think a guitar is a easy instrument to play.you must be very proud.

  • That was great. You definitely have talent. Thanks so much to both of you for sharing this with us!

  • I cannot believe how unbelievably talented he is! You gotta post a video response when the lyrics come to him. :)

  • James & Sullivan,

    Thank you for sharing.

I'm not sure why, but, i am reminded of the kind of kid i had imagined my own children would have been like, had they lived.

I say that with a tinge of sadness, but, also with a smile.

I got a tiny glimpse of what I missed.

sending lots of good thoughts your way-Heather

  • Not bad for someone his age. What a talented young man! Can't wait to hear the finished product.

  • Sullivan is as lovely and talented as his father. You must be so proud! Thank you again for allowing us a glimpse into your life with your son. I really miss seeing you each week as Spike! I've tried to keep up with everything you've done since, but I miss my weekly dose of snarkiness. I need you and Joss to come to my house each Tuesday night!!!!! I'll cook if that will help!

  • I can't say how great it was! I just keep repeating myself! These are all too awesome! Please keep playing for us! You guys are great

    :{D

  • Hi

Thanks for sharing this with us. Talent runs in the family and I wish Sullivan the very best ~ keep playing for us...

  • Sullivan your talented just like your father.....Your also a little cutie

  • Hi Sullivan. How long do you play guitar? First I have thought you are just a beginner. But I saw your new videos now and I must say that your guitar-playing is very good. How do you learn songs, are you using tabs or sheet of music? I started play guitar a year ago. I am using sheet but I have a little problem with chords and with harmonics. My teacher she probably shall go mad out of me. :-)

  • He's amazing. Clearly musical talent runs in the family. Thanks for sharing!

  • Sounds a bit Irish to me. Makes me remind P.S. I Love You, though it's quite a personal feeling. I like his style a lot.

  • this is really beautiful.

  • sullivan you have the father most wonderful and perfect of world!!!and play the guitar very good!!big kisses for two from argentina!

  • i like it, its soulful can't wait for lyrics :)

  • Only a year! Wow! I don't believe! You're making the rest of us aspiring guitarists look bad.....jk

  • Well, there's joy in your music, and that's everything, isn't it? It's wonderful to watch someone find their voice. Thank you!

  • This is really great. Good job :)

  • Very impressive. Sullivan sounds a lot like his father with the style of playing. :)

    fantastic job.

  • Sullivan! This is amazing! You are very talented. You dad told me you could 'play faster' but what he didn't say was you play with such grace and style--amazing for one so new to the instrument! Lovely music!

    Peace

    Patti :)

  • An anthem is a music written to a special occasion this one seems to be another kind to me : in my imagination it celebrates every little happiness each day povides like a walk in the sun, a kiss, a smile, children playing, wind in my hair, waves rowling on a beach ect... I should have tittled "happyness march". Anyway Y find this music very inspiring. Bravo !

Oh By the way beausoleil if you're interested by the anti tobacoo cure, they have added massages to the treatment call chris to book.

  • " in my imagination it celebrates every little happiness each day "

Yes, that is it very much... :-)

  • Nice! I'm a big fan of this one.

  • Nice job, Sullivan, it's a really good song with lots of catchy tunes! Keep on rocking, you two! ;)

    Cheers,

    Zsu

  • Sounds great, Sullivan!

  • I like it, congratulations Sullivan!!!

  • From James' July 2006 online Q&A:

Q:If you were going to "sell" only one of your favorite musicians to someone who'd never heard of him/her, which musician would it be and what would you say to convince that person to listen?

A: Nick Drake and his album Pink Moon. Nick died weeks after recording it and it truly sounds like it's too beautiful for this world.

I read 'Drake" and remembered James mentioning him before a few times. So,

if Sullivan is playing like him... :-)

  • I thought the sound you're producing had been lost to time and space when Nick Drake died, however your pieces Anthem and Polar Bear are to my mind, very reminiscent of it. He unfortunately never got to really realise his true potential, don't let that happen to you! I really look forward to hearing more of your work in the future.

  • Sullivan has done amazingly well considering how short a time he has been playing; it will be fun to see how he develops over the next few years.

This scat music ramble is clever but i kept waiting to hear a melody. Will this be developed into a song maybe? i like Polar Bear more, though i did find them rather similar, perhaps for the same reason.

My response ain't popular with some fans, but it's MY opinion and they tend to get a little confused over that point.

    Thank you for sharing!

  • Child, you're going to be breakin' hearts pretty soon, totally adorable and a talented musician!

  • From James- "He has been playing and writing for exactly one year today"

Congrats! It is obvious you have worked very hard and diligently to get where you are, Sullivan, and it is just as obvious how much you enjoy making music...Just keep going and keep playing!

The title "Anthem" is very appropriate. I cannot help but think of 'tradition', that whole concept, when I listen to this piece. Yes, the title fits well...not 'overly solemn' but 'inspiring and joyful'. :)

  • Sullivan is getting really, really good! Thanks James, thanks Sullivan for the sharing with us.

  • excellent. i love the sound of the song.

    it's very unique

  • I loooove james

  • Very very beautiful. Keep up the great work, Sullivan...love your chord progressions :-)

  • How amazing to come up with this on the fly. Beautiful.

Can´t wait to hear more. If I could make a wish, I´d love to see you both on stage one day.

I´m also wildly curious about your voice, Sullivan.

  • Lovely! Well done Sullivan. Keep up the good work.

  • Nice job! I loved it! Sullivan is talented as his father is! You're great guys! I love you both and best wishes from me! ;))

  • Once again, I'm amazed by how well Sullivan plays the guitar. This is a really great song; did he make this up himself, or was it more of a collaborative effort? Wow. I'm definitely putting this on my iPod or something!

  • I love this song! Really nice work.

  • What are you saying in the beginning? I can't make it all out

  • And now sullivan marsters playing a song called anthem, which is really just something we made up a few seconds ago which we didn't know what to call, but it's pretty cool.

  • Thanks! That's what I thought he said.

  • Wish I could play the guitar like that

  • I love, love, love IT! its very cheerful and folky! Makes me want to put a ribbon in my hair and dance. haha. :)

  • That's really rather lovely

  • I don't know what to say James. Wow, you taught him well.

So now you have me hooked on your kids sound...

    *smiles*

I guess there are worse things to be hooked on.

  • Beautiful piece! Can't wait to hear more!

  • Good job, Sullivan. Keep up the practice.

  • That's a really beautiful tune, It almost has a English Folk twist to it!

    xx

  • Kinda sounds a little like Glen Hansard.

  • It is a beautiful song!

  • That was really nice, that's laid back on a Sunday morning type of music for me.

  • Sorry James, the only bad comment I can give you is not enough videos posted. Love the song, very relaxing and played well.

  • this sounds really good!!!! Sullivan you surely have got talent!!! and James, you're a great teacher :D can't wait to hear more of those songs, maybe you 2 performing together!

  • This is an excellent song. It's very soothing and relaxing.

  • A beautiful piece of music Sullivan and you played it so well. Thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. Look forward to hearing more music from you. Thanks for uploading.

  • omg sullivan you are so good and you are really really like your father...james sullivan is really really good ...... you could introduce him on stage .... maybe with you :-) :-)

  • Comment removed

  • Sullivan - That was a really nice song. It's very mellow and relaxing to listen to. You have a lot of talent, and I'm looking forward to hearing more from you!

  • its a great song its sounds great and for some reason it reminds me of a old fashioned kind of acoustic with lead but its only one guitar its really good

  • Its great! And I love how you throw pick at the end!

  • Sullivan toca genial con la edad que tiene, pero es que su padre es un gran maestro.

    Enhorabuena, James.

  • also great that polar bear !! good continuance and have a good weekend !!

  • You are both awesome. Loved the song guys ^.^ xx

  • James you are perfect!!! and Sullivan is talented then you!!!

  • Sullivan you have really talented!

  • awesome job! james, i think you need to introduce sullivan to steve vai's music! ;)

  • omg, you guys are awesome!

  • Sullivan compliments!

I like so much both your songs. For my liking this is very good, the best maybe.

I can't wait for to listen others.

  • GRRRRRRRRRR The patch is just a transition Diamond, why don't you try the cure I suggested to you ? I'm sure it would work !

    Be happy the two of us ! ! ! ! !

  • First thought: James, dude..STILL on the nicotine patch?? If there was a record for wearing that thing you'd totally hold it! j/k

Second thought: Sullivan VERY pretty. Reminds me of 70's classic acoustic guitar music I use to look for and listen to over and over until i broke the tape or scratched the record in the music lull of the 80s. Great work! Get dad to write some lyrics and you got a great new song.

  • I don't know anything about music really except how it makes me feel when listening...This makes me think of family, a large gathering of the very oldest to the very youngest together, a warm sun and gentle breezes, celebrating traditions with smiles and laughter, gratitude and joy. It's very uplifting. Are all your songs this beautiful and soothing to the heart? :) I really am enjoying listening to them. Amazing! Thanks for sharing them with us!

  • Good work!!!

Hey james is on the patch again! Right on!

  • Gotta say that the kid's got talent. Keep doing what you enjoy, and you'll be recognized for it someday. :)

  • James is right, it's pretty cool!

I wish I could play the guitar as good as you do, Sullivan... You're very talented.

    Keep up the good work!

Looking forward to watch more videos.

    Grettings from Chile.

  • Thanks for sharing, it's pretty good.

  • Thumbs up. Nice lyricism in this piece, really nice

  • omg! that was so pretty! 8-))))) that cud like make me smile anytime (even when im pissed at my dad which NOTHING can calm me down but like breathing deeply and strangling w/e life could hav been in a tee shirt xD)

    i L. O. V. E. D. it!!!!!!!!

    ♥♥♥♥♥

    peace

    ^_-

  • Another beautiful riff! Sullivan, how long have you been playing for? You're talented - just don't stop playing. It can be tempting at certain ages to let go of 'extra-curricular activities' in favour of parties and mischief. Don't give in to that desire (too much), should it come knocking at your door, because believe me, it will pass. Musical talent deserves to be nurtured and cultivated. ; )

Thanks for sharing your music guys - if you come to Australia, let's jam together! =P

  • Sullivan - your dad wants us to honest about your talents, so here it goes... That was lovely! REALLY! Reminds me of cruising the coast at sunset.

I'm amazed you came up with that in such a short time! Awesome job!

Sorry James - I was as honest as I could be - hey - when the kid's got it - well - he's got it!

    See ya in Atlanta!

  • Quite lovely, Sullivan. I enjoyed it very much. Thanks for sharing it with us.

  • Dude, that's really good, no lie. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks James and sullivan, your both so talented.

I love your music Sullivan, keep it up your awesome.

  • Thanks James & Sullivan again!

Good luck in your future endeavours!

    James fan for 12 years,

    Stephen

  • Wow--I'm really blown away. Sullivan, you are really talented. I'm very impressed with this song and the one you are playing on "Polar Bear". James, you must be an incredibly proud Papa--and with reason! Thank you for sharing your music.
