  • The interviewer was better than most. He handled the entire ordeal and made them look well.

  • Tom Snyder was an asshole, and I'm glad he's gone, and most of the assholes like him back then are either circling the drain, or already taking a dirt nap....Fuck Rock & Roll, ask yourselves dipshits, has there been any music, from 1995, to the present? where are the garage bands? where are these glam assholes and metal fucks ?...........Dead or dying...........even Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman had their demise.........ROCK IS DEAD>>>>Praise Jesus. Punk is still here....

  • @youallschallack ur a stupid cunt

  • hehe, all the yanks hating john lydon cos they dont get it!

  • @hektorpike Get it? IT was just an act Lydon admitted it!

  • @tcampbellla of course it was an act! haha...you just proved my theory.......

  • @hektorpike Okay, then we agree!

  • @tcampbellla errr, ummmmmmm....yeh. kiss kiss...

  • @MARMARR1

Why should i..u chauvinistic ... i guess you are even to stupid to learn just only one foreign word. Thats why we say in our country. Arrogance makes stupid.

  • the only one outta step is Snyder who is pre-programmed for this interview by those above the ladder. Sorry the boys speak the truth.

  • the only way an interviewer can be genuine when dealing with muscians or poets, is if the interview knows and come from that that same cloth. Otherwise they're just doing that same obliviously, careless, prepared talk show bullshit that media network shareholders and corporate animals like to orchastrate.

  • @3Hits4Felix amen. I agree with everything you said.

  • @XxMusicxXIsxXxLifexX you should check out henry rollins, he's always on the edge of his seat, really listening while interviewing people, cause he' knows the deal, he's written books and sang the music.

  • I can understand Sbyder's disappointment, he really tried. Lydon's a lot more fun to interview nowadays.

  • Joe Strummer (not his real name) was the son of an emissary or ambassador with maids and butlers and mansions all over the world. His entire persona is fake, including the working class accent. A lot of these music stars rely on a certain contrived image that they are unable to release themselves from, either by habit or necessity often well into their 40s and 50s. No use still trying to be working class when you have millions in the stockmarket

  • @paisleyization indeed strummer was not born to a working class community but he was one of the most honest and real people ever, without a doubt.he most certainly wasnt fake.he never became ridiculously rich while pretending to be poor

  • @creatingchaos04 I saw the clash on their first North American tour 1979 or so, it is still one of the best concerts I've ever been to, however, their entire persona was of angry, working class underprivileged British youth. He absolutely became very wealthy. There is no way he would have a working class accent with his upbringing......not in England.

  • @paisleyization fairplay getting to see them.i'll never get to unfortunately.but did he not live poorly in london for many years.you'd pick up the accent.and he said it himself that he was from a rich background.so maybe yeah, he wasn't actually working class but he still supported them

  • Tom Snyder expected more from these guys who were big stars then. John Lyden still acts like this, and it's such an act that it's hard to watch without feeling embarrassed. It's a shame that he was so caught up in his image that he never felt secure enough to do a really decent interview and comes across as very empty. Johnny had a fantastic voice, a great look and passion about his work, but his interviews never showed it. I think Snyder was very disappointed.

  • Lydon said at the beginning of the interview that he wanted Tom to humor them because they were both jet lagged. My guess is that both guys were just tired and grumpy and really didn't want to stay awake in order to do a late night interview. John has said many times that the music business is hard and miserable - this is just one example of what the misery can do to the soul of a "rock star". I don't necessarily agree with his attitude but Tom Snyder wasn't helping or "humoring" the situation.

  • I think some of the things Lydon says are spot on, but he doesn't go about in the bst way. It's entertaining to watch but imagine actually meeting the prick.

  • lydon is right on

  • Johnny Rotten = One arrogant prick, he was s full of himself thought he was above everyone else what's he doing now?

Shitty country life butter adverts good one rotton

  • まんこ

  • punk isn't about being negative

  • think he was in a bad mood that day.I have seen johnny be a lot more pleasant.even to interviewers.

  • It's like a kid trying to act like a pretentious douche. This is really embarrassing.

  • Rotten is such a douche

  • I agree with most folk here. Lydon is extremely intelligent, witty and articulate but he's also an annoying tit.

'Why should I answer stupid questions from stupid interviewers?' Cos you signed a contract promising to answer stupid questions posed by stupid fuckwits.

He'll always be remembered as a hero, within 40 years folk'll forget he's also a gobshite.

  • John Lydon is a loser, and an asshole.

  • Always thought as a teenager that john lydon stood for punk style freedom etc. but if i see the interviews of him now when im a bit older, i only just see a sad young frustrated and puberal guy that only likes to provocate and to make people angry. The other person has in my eyes not any IQ at all. I only want to say things about i dont like. There is so much in the world that it is nice , specially in the west that i think you better can hang yourself to solve the problems in the world.

  • Keith is so smacked out in this interview it's hilarious.

"What do I like? Well... um... uh... I would need a long time to think about that... um... uh... I only know what I don't like." lol

  • I remember watching the original broadcast, Lydon was a total prat like always, quite entertaining. Tom Snyder knew great tv and played along, if this had been a typical interview we wouldn't still be watching it and commenting on it..."publicity stunt" anyone?

  • He so much looks like Trent Reznor from the early 90s

  • I think JL had an attitude problem. Tom Synder was very polite and didn't condescend. I thought JL was great at the time...clearly the older generation did not quite get the new stuff. But the punk generation (esp. Lydon and co were happy to keep up the attitude). Sadly at 55 Lydon hasn't grown up much ...perhaps a bit more self effacing. I've seen The Ramones interviewed...they were very polite and pleasant. Their music did the talking. WTF am I on about? I dunno. I've revised my views

  • I posted this in Part 1, but feel the need to say it again here: Keith Levene is soooo high in this, and John Lydon very pissed off and acerbic.

  • Tom - "Can you tell me you like"

Answer he gets "Not off hand... Not without having to think about it for a long time... What do I like?"

Tom was interesting... He comes across like a moron but he does have a way of using that to make his interviewee think he is a moron, but he makes them look like one...

"Right, you're not a band you're a company". Sorry, John. You were just a band.

  • What a plonker the interviewer was ... lol

  • So funny- John was apparently right.

  • I feel bad for Tom Snyder, having to go through with interviewing these slimy, brain dead, has beens.

Seriously, these chaps just come off as complete dicks at 04:15.

  • @degree7 has beens??? the pistols were at the top when this interview was done. you egocentric prick!

  • Comment removed

  • @degree7 - Snyder comes off as a dick as at 0.00

  • @Padata3000

    And Rotten doesn't?

  • @degree7 - nah, not at all, but I'm a John Lydon fan so I guess I am biased, aren't I?

  • @Padata3000

These guys just think they're so original, trying to make a statement, when in reality they don't have one. They say they're goal is to make punk music on major labels. But anyone who thinks they're just self destructive imbeciles (which John Lydon is and always has been) are unintellectual?

Yeah right, GTFO of here PiL.

  • @degree7 - don't waste my time with rhetorical questions like that please, Like I said I'm a fan, love the music or GTFO and go watch something you like. Sitting around watching youtube videos of people you dislike and writing comments seems to me to be a tad unintellectual, but I guess it's a free world....

  • @Padata3000

Well as a matter of fact, I'm watching a video of something I like. You know what it is? I like Tom Snyder. And I don't see why everyone else should get to voice their opinions on the side of something here, while I can't. That doesn't sound very 'intellectual' to me either.

  • @degree7 - enjoy the free world....

  • @Padata3000

Hey man, you chose to reply to me, so don't act snarky about it now that you don't want to have an argument.

  • @degree7 - keep digging that hole for yourself...don't mind me... ;)

  • @Padata3000

Whatever. I attempt to instigate discussion, you tell me to fuck off and that I'm "wasting your time." If anyone's been digging a hole here it's you.

  • @degree7 - I'm certainly not going to condescend, and if that makes me look like a snot nosed git then that's what I am.... go back to your arm chair outfit.... ;)

  • @Padata3000

Always have to have the last word eh?

If you truly didn't care, you wouldn't bother. Snot nosed git.

  • @degree7 -just look back at the comments again, mate, I made a couple of tongue in cheek comments, and then you start throwing all these defensive questions at me from outta know where, WTF ?? Now that is SNARKY. Everyone is entitled to thier opinions, I have never stated otherwise or tried to force them on to others. All the best. END OF LINE.

  • @Padata3000

Look man, pardon my use of caps but,

YOU CAN'T START A DEBATE AND THEN JUST "CHECK OUT"

  • @Padata3000

From what I'm re-reading, you said I was "wasting your time"

Well pardon me all over the place if I took offense to that.

  • i like tom snyder, he brought us the people we love to see!! john lydon is a clown man

  • i like tom snyder, he brought us the people we love to see

  • what film did they make in england?

  • no wonder the sex pistols were created....there were too many closed minded idiots like Tom Snyder in the world who just DONT GET IT and probably never will

  • this is why he didnt sell shit unless it had the sex pistols name on it...at least the clash were humble and not acting like pompous pricks...he actually said i dont care what my audience thinks? thats cool but at least say you respect them

  • Dont you just luv Johns honesty! Thats what people dont like is honesty & his is BIG like his personality..it basically says if you dont like me fuck off i dont care! :)

  • I love John!, but he is being an obvious cock!

  • pity.

  • you all do exactly what johnny has opposed for years. you conform to the sex pistols lifestyle and attitude. you are all hypocrites for agreeing with him so willingly.

  • it takes all sorts...

  • best interview i ever did see. i like how john makes fun of Carter X]

  • I love the sex pistols but I hate how Johnny has to push the whole punk rock thing into peoples faces... He just whines to much about allot of things and needs to relax cuz none of it is really effecting him

  • @GreenDay3213 He wasn't pushing "Punk Rock" into anyones faces, John Lydon was just being himself. He wasn't, and doesn't act "punk", whatever the fuck that is, he just voices his opinion whether people like it or not.

  • Ignorant little cunts. I fucking despised Lydon when he was that adolescent arrogant twat.

Now he's doing adverts for butter. Figure that out Pistols fans.

  • @Benjomatic I think (hope) that most Sex Pistols fans realize their whole thing was just an act to make cash...as is almost anything else in Johns career.

  • @ironman276 yeah well everything is just to make cash the difference with the pistols is that there honest about it and what they say its real and not act different just cause there on tv or been hipocrates like other artist saying that they love there fans when its clearly a damm of a lie

  • @SidEskorbuto The Pistols were never honest about being there "just to make cash" because they never claimed that, quite the contrary. Lydon always criticised musicians who did it for the money.

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx but come on dude we all must make a living

  • @SidEskorbuto No I agree with you, I just pointed out that Lydon didn't agree with you.

  • Haha, Tom Snyder PWNED these two dweebs! Like I have said before, I like Johnny Rotten, and respect him for somethings, but he totally blew it in this interview and made himself look like some pissy kid who has nothing of importance to say...pathetic really, especially for an adult.

  • It's funny how in a sense Rotten somehow maintains to be somewhat polite as he bascially insults the world. I kinda like Tom Snyder... In the end he got really sarcastic, which I think a lot of people misread 'cause they called him a suckup and all that rubbish. You can obviously see he wasn't very happy. ... Then again, talking to Johnny wouldn't be all that much fun, Interesting, though.

  • Huge pistols fan as a kid and love puck rock in general, but i have to admit as an adult im not all that impressed by Lydon. He's all about shock but is weak intellectually and just makes rather obtuse points. He's a rebel with little cause. I was very entertained by his antics when i was 13 but now it just seems kinda lame and contrived.

  • @1974freud

hahahah wow, now THAT'S missing the point, good and properly.

  • @1974freud I totally agree with you...well said!

  • Tom Snyder = piece of shit.

John Lydon is much more intelligent than he thinks...

  • this keith follow just looks like a follower twat... in my opinion..

  • @stoberto06 Uhm "this Keith fellow" wrote most of the songs on the album, as did all the genuine musicians Lydon hooked upon with throughout his career. People often forget that Rotten can barely play an instrument. He was chosen to be in the Sex Pistols for his appearance, not his musical chops. That "Keith fellow" is Keith Levene and he enabled Lydon to remain relevant after The Pistols disintegrated. Rotten was more corporate than Led Zeppelin at this point, a man who never got over himself

  • @ritter89 I agree. I think the best PiL work was with Keith. Afterwards it sort of lost it's focus.

  • @ritter89 lydon if you look wrote or co wrote most of the pistols songs so your point is?

  • Tom Snyder has 2 facial expressions throughout the whole interview

  • LOL Johnny was too cute when he was like "Could I have another cigarette please" and his eyes got all wide.

  • John Lydon is such a little rat dick.

  • @Acinar so you look at rat dicks to know this?

  • one of the most interesting moments of the interviewer's life - but for Johnny, it was Tuesday. Kinda sums up how dull Mr showbiz talkshow host's life must have been.

  • See imilar interviews with Bob Dylan. Rarely cordial. People who are used to Oprah, the talk show host is someone to be polite to.For artists who are attempting a cultural revolution, they are the face of the public and punk rock is often about spitting in the face of the collective in order to emphasis the individual. That's why Tom gets the big bucks!

  • Comment removed

  • The whole modus operandi of punk was to question and dislike everything. Also, think about their name "Public Image Limted", which means that they are going to try and remain as obscure as possible, especially during prime time interviews.

Tom Snyder was getting pretty perturbed by the situation and that was the goal of Johnny Rotten. It's a study in nihilism. "The king is not dead, just forgotten. This is the story of Johnny Rotten." - ny

  • I don't really think Snyder did anything wrong. He asked them fairly straightforward questions that you would ask ANYONE in an interview. He even gave up on the music at one point and invited them to comment on ANYTHING at all. I adore John Rotten but in those days, he really knew how to be a douche. He even admitted, years later, that he did it on purpose to fuck with interviewers. Love him or hate him, that is who he is. "This is what you want, this is what you get." - (Lydon quote)

  • i beleive that John was the one with the miniscule brain. Keith was O.K., he tried to get on with the interview while john just kept interupting.

  • the interviewer just tries to mock them through most of the interview, in between a few honest questions where he feigns genuine interest. a pretty sad approach, though to the average fool he makes Lydon and Levene look arrogant for daring to have higher ideals than being mere sheep.

  • A combined IQ of 40.

The interviewer destroyed them with rationality and logic, and their miniscule brains could not take it. Its was like having a scientist experimenting with two monkeys. I believe that a person can be arrogant, but may also have depth and substance with their views, but these two buffoons are a nothing more than two ignorant morons.

  • @oneoctavedown You completely missed the point just like Snyder. They didn't want people to buy the records because they looked or acted cool so they didn't bother putting on a friendly showbiz face for the interview. They spoke their minds but Snyder couldn't understand. He did get one thing right though: the world was extremely out of kilter back then. If more people had the honesty, intelligence, and straightforwardness that John Lydon had the world would have been a much better place.

  • @icemachine79 I'm not an expert, but as far as I know Sid Vicious impressed Lydon with his looks, not with his bass playing. Malcolm McLaren claimed "if Johnny Rotten is the voice of punk, then Vicious is the attitude." So I think they wanted people to buy records because of the great sound mostly, but 'cos they looked cool, too.

  • @icemachine79 "They didn't want people to buy the records because they looked or acted cool so they didn't bother putting on a friendly showbiz face for the interview."

You're forgetting that for people like like Lydon, being unfriendly and anti-showbiz IS the image, intentional or not. Speaking your mind and being gratuitously rude are not mutually inclusive as some seem to believe. Plenty of people on Snyder's show spoke their minds; they got treated with respect as long as they showed some.

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx Listening to the questions being asked it is quite obvious that Tom Snyder was either an idiot who hadn't done even basic research on his interviewee, or he was intentionally trying to annoy & provoke an angry response from John. Well, he got what he wanted. John Lydon knew what Snyder was doing, so he simply returned the same amount of respect he was receiving. That means that the fact John wasn't simply being rude for no reason is *very* relevant.

  • @icemachine79 I didn't get the impression that Snyder was being deliberately rude at all (until later of course). Actually, it always seemed to me he was eager to get across to guests he didn't understand. He certainly didn't seem knowledgeable, which isn't surprising, but that's how he was able to get John to explain himself, because he had the same level of understanding as his viewers. John was always on the defensive in most interviews, which is to be expected considering his start in music.

  • @oneoctavedown

you are tottaly out of it...........even if you try!!!!

  • They just didn't get each other.

  • Miss Tom....his style of interviews.like John...yet,even him trying hard here ...he made a mistake .Carter did not fall from his plane...it was Ford that stumbled down the stairs to his plane. This is great, and funny though I love when Tom says"Well, gang theres your answer you were waiting months for"Classic stuff!

  • why there are no more people like john in these days? what a fuck happened? fuck my generation

  • Wow, I like the Sex Pistols but Tom Snyder makes them both look like total arseholes. Great interview though.

  • john seemed like a scary man back then, perfect for the psycho role he did

  • johnny rotten is completely out of his head in this film.

  • oh wow, gobuckeyecolumbusoh...thanks for letting us know what douches you are there. i will make sure i don't come there and soil your puritan white power gated community!

  • that dude with the long hair is weird!!!!!

  • at least hes honest

  • tom holds his own pretty well, at least he remains polite.

  • They're doing a bit of posing with the whole "We don't like anything" bit. Keith Levene struggling to find something he does like is just him being coy... and real high (or as they claimed, jet-lagged). But Snyder took it personally that they were doing so when, if he did his homework, he would know that this was what you expect. As the PiL title said, This is what you want... this is what you get. So deal with it! Snyder didn't play along so he got a standoff as a result.

  • john lydon was ssssssso attractive

  • tom snyder, i think he did that interview really really well. just stayed his usual polite self and let lydon make an arse out of himself.

    fair play!

  • i think snyder handled him well, with his sanctimonious way, i thought he made rotten look like a silly little boy, or at best this was all an act to make money, but snyder is an idiot, watch the charles manson interview for him to get on ur nerves, he asks manson a question and interupts him with another, he gets more abuse in comments than charles manson does

  • @gobuckeyecolumbusoh

    wahhhhhhh! waaaaaaaaaahh! waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh

  • Looks like Columbus could use a "ground zero experience" if it's full of chappies like you.

  • Tom Snyder's hair is awful. My God!

  • @blacktopaz8 i think he has a wig DX hahaha

  • @blacktopaz8 so is Levene's

  • this interviewer here is a stuck-up wanker

  • @kroschy82 The interviewer?! John Lydon is the wanker.

  • @Benjomatic if you know and love the pistols and pil, you know lydon is a total wanker. butter commercial cocksmoker

  • @Benjomatic (in a good way)

  • @Benjomatic fuck the moaning cynical cunt, joe strummer was better

  • @andrew19vato You wouldn't have heard of Joe Strummer without Johnny Rotten and the Sex Pistols

  • @crackerackadingdong Strummer was a musician,. Johnny was an actor and admitted it! The "Sex Pistols" was an ac

  • @Benjomatic Johnny Rotten is awesome.

  • @kroschy82 i don't see how really, i just think they're bein cunts and talking bollocks. i respect a lot of what johnny says/has said but i think he also just acts like an unnecessary knob for the sake of it.

  • @kroschy82 compare Tom Sydner's interview with The Clash - here John comes across as an arrogant prick imho, whereas Joe Strummer and the Clash do things with so much more style and likeability. Tom Sydner just responds to the guest and says what the audience is thinking, like any great host.

  • @sigiles

Thank you. I hate it when fans bash the host because the host isn't a big fan with a Cool Haircut. Fanatics can be so fanatical! Tom Snyder is a good sort of feller.

John Lydon is an automatic series of cocky talking points and arrogant poses. It's like he practiced this prattle before the mirror the night before. Clearly he will never grow up. RIP Snyder! Pox on faux punk Lydon.

  • @sigiles John acts that way because he doesn't care what people thinks, he's to far above them. He IS punk! He has twice the personality that Joe Strummer ever had. You can listen to his interview from any time in his life and he seems to be talking perfect sense.

  • @sigiles shut the fuck up you dumb, thick dog

  • @kroschy82 john lydon is a stuck up wanker.

  • @kroschy82 hes just trying to be cute and funny and make PIL look dumb at the point of the 2nd video, because they said they dont wanna play shows, they will if they feel like it. but they're a company, they wanna do everything from movie soundtracks to movies, or anything interesting thrown at them. and he apparantly doesnt get that theyre not a rock band that plays shows for the ticket sale money as income

  • @kroschy82 The interviewer is a stuck-up wanker, and so is Rotten and that other no-brainer docuhe-bag. I mean c'mon! Rottens whole anti anti attitude is so fucking contrived. Snyder was right to sarcastically quote Rotten: "Not a band a company, not a performance a gig" Because Rotten calling his band "a company" makes him sound like a self-indulgent prick.

  • @kroschy82 so is johnny so it all pans out

  • LOL 5:15 - "that'll be your shoes".

  • Why doesn't Lyndon ever brings his own smokes? He always has to bum them off the interviewer.

  • that would be too conformist ;)

  • give me cig...oh go on....i will give you one back later ?

  • Tom Snyder is dead, I think?

  • you're right tom, it is unfortunate.

  • I must say I think it's strange that Tom Snyder asked this kind of questions when PIL was already going on for 1 or 2 years. Where's the research, indeed?

  • Well in Snyder's defense, I don't think the average viewer of the Tomorrow show know about PiL, so perhaps he felt it was appropriate to start with basic questions.

Either way I'm glad this interview happened this way - it entertains me every time I watch it.

  • Absolutely epic.

  • Come on!! Stop arguing!!

John and Keith pissed off Tom, so Tom pisses them off in some sort of revenge.

"Treat others like you want them to treat you"

  • Comment removed

  • Anyone else surprised that Johnny didnt slap Snyder out of his chair ? Im sure it crossed his mind , haa .

  • I think the otter resting on that guy's head was starting to bite him.

  • "..it may be your shoes..." haha

  • What a thick brainless cunt the interviewer is. I hope if the stupid shit is still alive today he has woken up and learned something.

Actually on second thoughts, I just hope he isnt alive today.

  • The interviewer has been dead for awhile now

  • the interviewer brainless? the two gits are brainless, they dont know what they like and think that the whole world should grow up and get in line with them, just think what that would be like.... the whole world, depressed and hates everything. what a mental world that would be.

  • No thats where youve got it wrong!.........The Goverment makes them depressed and to hate everything.

Goverment changes. They change. But Unfortunatly people are BRAINLESS.

  • true. the interviewer doesnt even give them a chance to answer AND doesnt do a single fuckin piece of research about PIL before the interview which is HIS JOB to do. he should fuckin find out who they are and what they do before the cameras even start rolling.

  • Comment removed

  • neither do u.

  • OMG, what a twit.

  • whadaya like? NOT VERY MUCH

  • emo wasn't out at that time!!! they are not emo, they are PUNK. but punk became a fashion so that is what Lydon is talking about. in society,it's called punk. i guess it's called emo today

  • I don't think that Emo is punk. I think Punk is dead, really. Emo is Emo. Just an opinion.

  • Wtf Punk is dead????, ever heard of bad religion, anti-flag, the briggs, rancid??? they are genuine bands btw and no one can ever say its dead cause people will have to wait and see what the future may bring.

  • Hi there. I see you are 20 years old, so you don't remember punk in its heyday. Punk rock's roots were based in the youth's total abandonment of established morales, political revolt, turning disco on its head, even though punk was around even before disco, etc. Bad Religion, Anti-Flag, The Briggs and Rancid and whoever you have there in your collection are not old school punk, and that is what I mean by punk being dead. WTF! : )

  • Well i know Punk Rock in its all days, but Im talking about good punk bands NOWADAYS. and you are right but it still influenced alot of bands nowadays some changed and some didnt so its not entirley dead. and some old school punk you're talkin about, you have the Ramones, Sex Pistols, Crass, The Clash, Dead Kennedys, The Stooges, New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders, PiL (ofcourse), The Adverts, The Saints.

    I know my history.

  • I'll have to agree with RSDCZ, there are punk bands out today. I do agree with you that emo isn't punk.

punk is an attitude also, not only music and I think that still exists in rock music today, even though it's faded a bit.

  • I guess that my thought wanders to how lucky these two were that oxygen is (and was) not in short supply...

If there were a time machine available, I would like to see how they would fare in say the 1500's or 1600's or 1700's...

Come to think of it, perhaps a North Korean tour today would be entertaining for them...

  • okay, so what i don't get here is why he's calling the band a company??

aren't companies just shit for money??
