I thought he played well and with feel and I thought the solo was good and was real. People who hate on this video probably listen to Stevie Vai which and guitar with no soul.
beginers wanna see good playin and not get their brains ambushed with notes and intervils . because those of us who understand the notes wouldnt need a beginner style lesson so for the sake of beginners lose the waffle and just play
Not to split hairs, but its called the Minor Pentatonic scale. There's also a Major Pentatonic scale, so its confusing for students later on if you refer to the Minor Pentatonic as simply "the Pentatonic".
I also find it confusing to name off every interval you're playing during the solo, especially if people have no idea what intervals even are, or how they pertain to the minor pentatonic.
hey how about you post your own video teaching this song since you have a "degree" in music rather than just telling this guy everything you think he did wrong?
he says "C Pentaton...ahh..C# Blues Scale" at 0:58 ...so to get back to my original point: that can be potentially misleading, and I wont go into detail why I hold this opinion so I don't nitpick the content of this FREE guitar lesson any further.
And as to why I would be watching this....
I was watching guitar related stuff a few months ago and just happened to come across this video. I hope that's an acceptable reason to watch a YouTube video....
I teach guitar for a living, and I have a degree in music. That being said I think this is a great beginner lesson but there's alot more going on in that song. And to you quite honest I don't think the solo does Albert King any real justice, BUT could help students get a feel for playing original licks and not just straight off the record.
I also think some of your terms need clarifying. It would be alot more concise if you used phrases like "resolve to the root" rather than
@crosbystillsnash68 Dude I highly doubt he poured his heart and soul into that solo. You can come up with many solos when it comes to the blues....some good some bad but he was obviously just giving an example here.
this is/was very cool, i have been messing around with this for years, literally(i am 53) and i remember when cream hit FM radio in '67 or so. i never got it right being i have always thought it was in C, and not C#, completely missed that. it's all right fucking there. and with a 60's SG standard. classical musicians, i am a violinist/fiddle player, isn't that the trip.
Please before you learn this please take the time to leson to the song by albert king. There is some licks and chords missing. Its good he wonts to show people how the song is played and for free.but he does not play it right. If you are going to learn it might as well learn it right, right!
hey rcplanetim here nice video i just made one of me playing something off of a jam track i know that song well mabe i will play it next!!! i have the jam track too! its on my guitar play along cd. if you want to see my only guitar video type rcplanetim in the searchbar look for "trying something different" poor camera..sorry
hiiii i really enjoyed this. ive been looking into albert king stuff cause its makes me feel good that theres someone that plays upside down like me. =]. im not all that rich so i couldnt buy a left handed guitar. and if i restrung it my dad wouldnt be too happy. thank you so much though.
Great stuff man. Would you be so kind in telling me what pedal you used for the solo? I really enjoyed it! The sound was very clean. Is it a Boss Blues Overdrive?
Actually, it's the overdrive channel on the Peavey Classic 50. I've replaced both the speaker and the tubes with Weber and JJ, respectively. It gives it a tighter sound.
really well done , you got tabs?

He clearly says pentatonic blues scale.
Why would someone with a degree in music who teaches guitar be watching this?

can the peavey classic really get a good kinda crunchy blues rock tone like SRV when cranked?
SoloBen247 3 years ago
No, its not a very clean cranked. You'd be better off going with a used fender.
