@filthygerman027 two different exercises bro. using your legs and hips to drive up the press is a "push press". also if you take it one step further it becomes a "jerk press".
if you want to do a legitimate military press. keep your legs and hips immobile, tense your core, and push the bar up in a vertical path over your head. a lot of people if they struggle with the last couple reps of a military press set will start pushing to get past the beginning part of the ascent and hit the delts
I just wanted to tell that i started doing this while standing and just to let you know i can lift 15-20kg more when sitting. Standing and doing is the real deal, try it.
STANDING MP press will be the best work out you get aside db curls etc and running. These guys juice and are gassing with 70lbs.. Ignore going behind your neck with the bar you're cuffs will get fucked PERIOD Start at a comfortable weight and work and work and work, don't cheat like these guys with the juice and always breathe and use the right form
@rctriplefresh5 You are right he does have 115, and they are gassed, but I don't lift like I used to, but I put up a military press video with 120 lbs 5x [I don't use racks btw], I am starting to lift more now, that was cool of you to make sure everyone knows the steroid users are gassing with 115 lbs NOT 70 lbs. I could say a million and one things about your video's which I just skimmed over..but keep lifting and best of luck moron! :)
@StealYaMind which vid? i dont really support using steroids but who says that these guys are suing it...listen calling yo ua moron was immature, but dont you think that hating on here is also? he didnt look to struggle with 115 at all..looked pretty easy. guys prob good for a 200 mil press.
@rctriplefresh5 I'm not hating lolz, they are going behind their necks with the bar, that destroys your cuffs and increases risk of injury by a huge amount. As for steroid use it is very clear to me they cycle, I would almost put my car and home on it, I have friends who are serious about weights and they are similar looking build wise. I have 3 vids up, 1 is the 120 lbs mp 5x and the other is my dog running in a field. I just don't respect people that juice and give bad advice. No worries here.
@StealYaMind I really don't see why people get so testy about test. I wouldn't do it but to make it be a felony etc...? It's between them and their doctor. Who cares? It's like saying you don't respect someone for taking claritin.
@MichaelnChristine I dislike it it personally because it is similar to training for a 26.2 k and you get to skip 16 miles and win, I like the challenge of hard work and grit. Felony not at all, I have a member in my family that has been juicing for years and he looks big but I still tell him he is a cheater and he knows I out work him and he won't say anything I care because kids look at this and feel bad about their build and see these men on steroids and it breeds a cycle no pun intended.
@StealYaMind I suspect you are making most of that up. Steroids don't build muscle for you. You could do 5gm a day of test and all the fixings and if you don't hit the gym hard not thing will happen (muscle wise). It lets you build muscle faster and recover better but it doesn't lift the weight for you. Also it doesn't "make you look big" while you are a total sissy who can't lift anything. Do you understand the difference between Weight Training and body building?
@MichaelnChristine I suspect you are Canadian and really fat and hate that I have videos of me moving weights and you don't have anything, life sucks huh.. get a gun and do us a favor
@StealYaMind Even if any of that were true it doesn't prove what you are claiming now does it? LOL Also, 1 - Not Canadian. 2 - You are still wrong. 3 - Ask yourself why you have to shit talk. Is it because you can't back up your claims? Come on son. If you are right you can back up your claims and prove me wrong. Do it. LOL
@MichaelnChristine You started it, this is immature but I train out of a gym in Raleigh, NC Do you wanna box and get a plane ticket etc? if not than stfu and get a life, you are the reason why random beating occur.. you don't know when to shut the fuck up.
@StealYaMind You really can't cope with reality can you? Name calling? Threats? All because you don't know what a steroid is? TROLOL 6'5", 290lbs. Yeah I got some body fat but sans fat my thigh is bigger than your whole body kid. 90lbs? 140lbs? Seriously, get an Olympic bar and lift some real weight.
@MichaelnChristine You're BMI is 34.4 that is over 20 which is obese, If you wanted help all you has to do was ask, instead you act like a dick. Ftr I stay at 170lbs and its all muscle, If I hit 180 from being lazy/injuries I feel horrible. and i'm 6'2. Look get a straight bar and if you can pick it up off the ground and press it 3x times like I posted than I will take you're adivce with a 45lb "Olympic bar" and lift some real weight. The offer remains open if you still wanna talk FIGHT or stfu!
@MichaelnChristine@MichaelnChristine You're BMI is 34.4 that is over 30 which is obese,I stay at 170lbs and its all muscle, If I hit 180 from being lazy/injuries I feel horrible. and i'm 6'2. @StealYaMind You might be 5'10on your toes, and might be 145. Also at 290lbs, 6'5" with 34" shoulders, a 50" chest and a 44" waist I'm anything but obese. LOL I don't claim to be a BB but I could over head press you and the 40lbs you are lifting in your videos. Seriously steroids build muscle no matter how little work you do? Do I want to fight? LOL Can't you get over being ignorant? You are like a yapping little dog. Can you even dead your own BW? Didn't think so.
@MichaelnChristine I always wanted to be shorter tbh, but 6'2 170 lbs, last time I checked my BBdotCOM stat's my shoulders and chest are bigger and you out weigh me by a few pounds lol. I have 140 lbs in my videos and you know it aghh, maybe I was arrogant but you started this, so I am playing into you're game which is really immature and lame. If you want to cut weight just do cardio and go at (Your) pace! nvm anyone else. If you don't want any advice from someone who knows, God bless you.
@StealYaMind LOL Of course you do...of course you do. Keep telling yourself that. Now tell us some more about how "mature you are" and how all test users are lazy and "cheaters" and how "You don't even have to lift weights to blow up and get huge". I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. Next you are going to tell us that squatting hurts the knees and dead-lifting is for sissies. LOL
Behind the neck presses WILL NOT hurt your shoulder if DONE PROPERLY. Like lighthouse99 says...start off real light, watch your form, then move on from there. The people that say "don't do behind the neck presses" are typically the same types that tell you not to squat cause "it's bad for your knees".
Decent video, however the idea of a standing behind the neck press is extraordinarily dangerous. To anyone reading this, always do that variation seated with your legs pushing you into the seat hard so you will have a more stable base. You "WILL" hurt your shoulder eventually doing BTN presses standing, this is not an if, it is a guaranteed when. Other than that it was an informative video for people who are lacking in the knowledge of performing these lifts.
first of all, theres no chart that will tell you, it's not like a wind chill reading chart, where you line up your weight and bench press to find your military press weight. start with 25lbs on each side(total 95lbs), my guess is this will give you a little bit of trouble past 5 reps, also remember when you start a new exercise you will be quite weak, but you will notice quick gains each time you come back
Stax is right. Start off VERY LIGHT and then see how you feel 2 days later, particularly around the shoulder. You will be using a lot of stuff in your rotator cuff that probably has not had much work. if you damage R/C muscles, you are completely out of commission for most upper body work. Standing MP is an excellent all-around lift, but bad form here will adversely impact your other lifts. you will have quick gains, but start off easy!
The difference between doing it in front or behind the neck, is it will recruit different muscle fibers of the primary and secondary muscles, in this case your deltoids. To get all of your muscle fibers recruited you need to vary your technique to use all of your muscle fibers and variations is a good way to prevent muscle adaptation, thus you will continue to experience hypertrophy. Make sure when doing this exercise not to hyperextend your spine, use a belt if necessary or lower the weight.
I've been doing these for a while now. I use two fifteen pound dumbbells and alternate front and back, unfortunately I've been locking my elbows and going farther down than my ears. Thanks for the vid to point that out.
Pretty sure that's shitty form. Correct me if I'm wrong .
