I'm in the minority but I think 'After MASH' was a good idea, just poorly executed. The series followed the three most boring characters from the original show. If 'After MASH' had followed Hawkeye or Charles, characters that could have been fleshed out and actually carried a series, it would have been much more interesting. I think Hawkeye would have needed to be recast b/c Alda probably would not have been interested but it still could have worked.
When Mr. Angelo said to Sherman: You can speak it (your mind) all you like, just don`t act on it. That doesnt make sense. Mike angelo was more concerned about the publicity about that missing patient. Angelo sounded like he didnt care about what that missing patient might had done to others (includeing Mildred). Potter did care. Potter is a human being that cares about people. people come first.
@TheMashwatcher585 it just meant that potter could think what he wanted but dangelo wanted him to toe the line.remember him saying he had to part ways with the former chief? probably we were supposed to think it was someone like potter who put the patients ahead of the hospital's image.D'Angelo wants someone who'll play ball.potter stays so he can fight for the patients and the writers might have intended danegelo to have enough integrity to want that to some degree.
"First thing I did when I got my letter from my draft board, I tried to shoot my big toe off. I'd have done it, too, only my foot was too fast for me."
ROFL And people wonder why Klinger is my favorite M*A*S*H character.
@HENJAM48 M*A*S*H* was aired overseas without a laugh track, and finally when I saw it on DVD I could see it without it: it improves the show so much you wouldn't believe it. I doubt "AfterMASH" will ever see the light of day on DVD, but removal of it here would be a blessing as well. It had a super brief run, by the way.
Klinger's spot on. Seems to be a trend to not welcome the troops home properly anymore. After Nam they even got spit on and it's not really better these days.
When Klinger went before the Judge he mentioned the date 9-26-53 for the date of his offense. When Col Potter was talking to the old man he knew from the 5th calvary on the elevator, he said he had been there since 1918 almost five years. So that would make it 1923. Did I miss something here, why such a big difference in time? $12,000 salary doesn't seem like much for a chief of staff in 1953.
it also makes Margaret Houlihan look like more of a bitch. we never saw Klinger or Radar doing this level of dirty work.when MASH got real liberal it was all about the nurses are saints and any nurse DOES deserve credit for doing that job but the regular grunts who do this kind of work deserve as much if not more. I don't know that I could have done this.
@Jenniferkate I like how in So Long, Farewell, Amen they wait until Hawkeye crashes into the officer's bar before they send him to Sydney Freedman. Who lets a doctor continue to operate when he tries to do it without anesthesia????
How DID Klinger leave the army? Or did he finally settle in an accept his fate or what? I have seen many a M*A*S*H episode but I admit, never a full series, always a couple of eps here and a few eps there, never actually sat down and watched the whole thing.
Which is why I ask, he was always looking for a section 8 but never got it, did he get it in the end or did he come home with the rest of them once the war ended or what?
Klinger was able to leave as soon as the war was over but then when he met a local Korean woman named Soon Lee he ended up marrying her and staying in Korea a bit longer so they could find her family, Ironic huh?
Wow, I heard Aftermash sucked. This vid plesently surprised me. It must have gotten bad later on in the season. This is actually good stuff as far as this pilot is concerned.
Hey, this is pretty neat. The gag writing and narrative has a nice lighter M*A*S*H feel to it. Actually qiute touching. Thanks. I'm a big M*A*S*H fan and yet I didn't know about this. Thanks, Colonel Robert Neville blogspot com.
Larry Gelbart wrote this, so it's not surprising that it feels like the early M*A*S*H episodes. AFTERMASH got worse as the first season went on and got really bad in the truncated second season.
Probably because Alan Alda wasn't in it. He carried the show on his back as well as writing and directing original MASH episodes. There was no young cast here either.

Did it get past the Pilot? It's compulsive viewing but disturbing when Potter talks about wars. I'm afraid in 2011 the Laugh track seems bad taste.

Is the guy that Potter is talking to in the cafeteria line Arliss Howard? He played Pvt. Joker in Full Metal Jacket.

The best scene of this episode, Klinger telling like it is. This is one of those spinoffs that should have been given more of a chance.

This video shows just how good this show was. To 15 show until they moved it against A-Team. Why would you move a top-15 show? Unreal.
Keep posting these. This show is fine.
