Don't miss your chance to meet Dr. Daniel Amen, attend his upcoming lecture and book signing! This February 19th & 20th, 2011 at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL for the "Yes ... We Can Think Outside The Box" Next Generation Conference on Science-Based Medicine. The conference is presented by The Robert Fishman Institute for Training and Research. Go to askrfi.com to register or learn more.
My doctor gives me the dx of chest pain all the time. They don't take the time unless you have insurance. The times I had insurance they did aginio's and god know's what and came up with real diagnosos. You are going to die. Give us some more money and we will tell you when.
Love Dr. Amen's books! I was wondering about the proper dose of inositol for mild depression - I think he suggests 12mg (but capsules are 500mg) so I'm confused, but a lower dose is probably safest.
make paper tabs... use a glass and graphing paper and divide the 500mg so that each part contains almost 12 mg. if its too hard for you you ould start by creating a "mini cake box" and devide it by five(eaach part is by 100mg) the try to meke a new "cake box" then devide it again. the nearest to twelve th better.
Regarding what Dr. Amen says in this video clip, Joan Mathews Larson, PhD, who has been treating anxiety and depression as well as addiction, says the same thing.
She says, "Depression is just a symptom of some underlying cause."
She talked about it in a speech she gave at a medical conference a couple years ago.
I only have the audio of her speech, but because this is such an important point for people to realize, I will post the clip of her saying this also.
Okay hang on at 1:50, when he speaks about depression, "And one treatment does not fit everyone." And cuts off from that subject.
Just curious because I've yet to purchase his book. I can understand that a specified brain treatment does not work for everybody. But, with what kind of credible evidence, does Dr. Amen have, in relation to which treatment to "accurately" use on a patient.
Is there a measuring tool along with the SPECT machine?
This man is so enlightening and his books are quite informative and helpful. I've read two about the brain and add. If his scans were affordable, I'd go out and get one. everyone should know what kind of brain they have, i.e., what areas are reactive. Self knowledge is powerful. Thanks for posting

bridgetbrigitte,
It is much cheaper to buy in powder form.
It also tastes good -- sweet -- which is unusual for a supplement.
Beyond-A-Century sells it.
PureBulk sells it.
Do a Google search for "inositol powder".
I'm sure there are others that sell it in powder form as well.

bridgetbrigitte,
I think they use up to 12 grams, which is 12,000 mg, of Inositol, taken in divided doses throughout the day.
Joan Mathews Larson, PhD has talked about this.
For example, 3000 mg taken four times a day.
(One gram equals 1000 mg.)
Inositol is very safe.

Context,
My understanding is that, yes, he gives specific treatments for different types of depressive symptoms.
You might also look at the videos of Joan Mathews Larson, PhD.
She says the same thing.
Dr. Amen says there are 7 different types of depression based on brain scans.
Dr. Larson says there are 15 common causes of depression, and that treating everyone with SSRI's is a mistake.
Her book is called Depression Free Naturally.
