Iron Chef is SOOOOOOOOOO much better than IC America... IC Japan the chefs aren't forced to make 5 dishes and Fukui Kenji, Shinichiro Ohta, Kaga Takeshi and Hattori Yukio made it fun and enjoyable to watch compared to Alton Brown (the most annoying person EVER), Kevin Brauch (I'm A Ding Dong/ a play on his KAMBENWA..sorry for butchering that word), the always goofy chairman Mark Dacascos and Jeffrey Steingarten ( I don't understand how someone so fat can keep saying negative things about food).
This was what made IC so interesting... Taking world-class chefs and challenging them with the most opulent to the most basic ingredients. Next to rice, bamboo shoots are as humble as it gets for an Asian ingredient.
@LordOmberus haha no worries dude. Yeah, a trip by train to tokyo from kyoto isn't so bad, you might take a nap, but you dun have to sleep like, for 8 hours. So in a sense it isnt THAT long of a way between the two regions
Wow - Grandfather's knife looks like quite a treasure.
And speaking of knives, I've watched quite a few Iron Chef episodes, and I am still in awe of the finesse and dexterity that Chen shows with the use of that huge cleaver.
I think part of it, and this is in no way a hit on Chen's skills (I'm sure they're far superior to anything I'll ever achieve), is that the cleaver isn't much thicker than a regular "western" chef's knife. it may
of his inactivity? last role Emperor Kinkaku (King of the Golden Horn) december 2007, then .. nothing. you continue, gimme his "date of departure" if he's dead.
@kiminokami Looks like a disscussion on the Chairman Kaga being alive, so I checked:
the wikipedia entry for Takeshi Kaga shows that the actor is still alive, but the wikipedia entry for Fugu say that the fictional Chairman Kaga was said to have died of fugu poisoning after the regular run of the series ended. The Chairman was killed off partly because the actor portraying him, Kaga Takeshi, had prior commitments that prevented him from reprising his role in an Iron Chef special.
@kreign I guess, at this early phase in the show's history, two reputations would be at stake if Challenger Takahashi, a Kyoto traditionalist, were to face off against Michiba, the maverick Japanese chef.
I just noticed that Chairman Kaga sounds like he's dubbed over by Albert Wesker from the RE series.

"Your long trip"?
Isn't Kyoto like forty miles away from Tokyo? The Japanese have no concept of distance...

i love the chairman eating the bell pepper as the icon of this show...
without his bell pepper, there's no excitement to this show!!
