Jim Carrey isn't my favorite actor and I've never seen the movie, but come on. I have bipolar disorder and have many relatives with various mental illnesses. We crack jokes about ourselves all the time. Pure hate is one thing, but when it's all in good fun, get over it.
The Beaver College issue reminded me of when my sister graduated magna cum laude and my mother tried to send out the announcement from her work computer. The company bounced it back because it had the word "cum" in it.
5:00 may have been overstated, but her point still stands. In many other first world countries hate speech, libel, and slander laws are much more restrictive than in the US. Someone being arrested for imitating an ethnic waiter would have never happened in the US. The offender may be asked or forced to leave, but not arrested.
Where did you go to school, honey? I would elaborate but I'm stuck listening to that line on a loop just to assure myself that I didn't mishear this evidently //intelligent// actress... I'm not calling what she said a stereotype. She doesn't exactly represent the country, does she? I am, however, calling what she said moronic. No other country has freedom of speech, religion, etc? That's the stupidest patriotic statement I have ever heard.
@f4r0uq1988 you can say "ass" because it can refer to a donkey. Once "hole" is added you can't run away from the fact that it is not a donkey that's the subject. It's stupid, but it's how it is
As for the topic they are talking about, it does bother me when people confuse schizophrenia and dissociative identity disorder (multiple personalities), but only because they have almost nothing in common. Use wacko, crazy, nuts, whatever all you like though. Not all of us messed up people get offended by that.
Heather Donohue sure made herself look like a fool. Eddie, on the other hand, makes great comments.
But all Americans can't be judged on the basis of a foolish comment by one person (and, I agree, what she said at 5.00 certainly was foolish). I've met plenty of Americans who don't think as she does.
@TheTubeMouse Hell, I am an American and I don't think as she does. It's awful to be judged as a person just because I happened to be born in a certain country.
@TheTubeMouse Well, when the majority of americans vote bush in for a 2nd term then i guess you can say "5:00 is why the majority of Americans are seen as ignorant and self-righteous idiots". It's still pretty embarrassing.
@Elina1029 STOP! You can't honestly buy into that Generalized Mind Set for Categorizing Americans...I mean...Come on now?! Even your Sorryass U.K. Mr. Tony Blair was a International "FUNKY" for Bushy Boy in the "EARLY" 2000's...I Detest Them BOTH!!! But do You Honestly/Sincerely/Genuinely-Understand what I'm getting at? If you do....Then be a Person with INTEGRITY...& Say/Type you were WRONG for making such a Blanket Statement about the America.
@JohnAndRowForever What I pointed out is a single example of the 'stereotypical American behaviour', ie one proof of things actually being the way the stereotype might suggest. You do see how stupid the statement was?
And what has Blair to do with it? I'm not from the UK.

But hah. No one else has them? BS.

I don't know where they get those stories about what happens in other countries. None of the stories I've heard about the UK have been true.

LOL 'We have those freedoms and nobody else has them." I love how Americans are brainwashed with that idea from the time they start school.
