your making alot of assumptions as to what another MA would do in any given situtation. That is the mother of all f___ up's. Wing chun is for survival not a show sport MA. i practice wing chun.2 years so far.and it helps in a real life situration i know almost being robbed ..also most young wing chun students today learn the system but dont master it.2 years of training and im still running around wing chun schools and outside with friends of all types and have friendly sparrs.
it all depends on the practicioner..i learn both kyokushin karate and wingchun (both just a newbie though) and i realized that both have their own + and -..
i practice wing chun and your right we do prefer point blank range, but almost all fights start in man sao range (5 or so feet away), but all we do really is learn to avoid long range attacks so we can close in to finish
As a Wing Chun practitioner, I take this as a compliment. If you hate sparring with Wing Chun, it's because Wing Chun is difficult to defend against. Of course it depends on the skill level, but anyone that is good at Wing Chun is fast and powerful, and it is very hard to beat when using other styles. The best style to use against Wing Chun is Wing Chun...lol
wing chun is not only chain punching remember they have still grabbing takedown kicking techniques.. and as you can see wing chun does not always attack first.
First of all, you cannot give tips on how to spar against a certain style when you yourself aren't knowledgeable in the art form. It's like me teaching someone how to play basketball but I don't know shit about it lol.
Only ways to defeat Wing Chun Guys: Have a gun Pointed at them while stayin 10m away or if you are able to: Take him to the ground (Will most likely not happen to a GOOD Wing chun fighter since you cant grab or tackle him). Keeping the distance will not work. Wing Chun fighter are like pressure bombs. As soon you touch them, they´ll FEEL what u are going to do next. No kicks since he s too close.

@AskHandsomeThomas Je hoeft je niet te verontschuldigen ik doe wing chun en wat je zegt klopt ook. Maar goed je weet hoe ongelovelijk fel mensen zijn over hun vechtsport...
this demo here would be effective on a beginner WC player but against someone who is proficient in WC, getting in close is the last thing you would want to do.
Wrong. Tell that to a judoka, grecco roman wrestler or BJJ fighter whos fighting distance is even CLOSER than wing chun is used to. Wing chun doesnt want to get close to those styles.
@SkemeKOS If a Wing Chun practitioner is proficient in the full style, wrestling is not a problem for him. Wing Chun is a full style and all areas of fighting are covered, including ground work. BJJ and Greco Roman are great for the ring. On the street, not so much. If you should happen to be confronted with more than 1 person, even the most skilled BJJ practitioner cannot defend against the opponent's buddy kicking him while he's rolling on the ground.
Im sorry but youre taking complete bullshit, my friend. And PLEASE dont use that stupid "BJJ is only good for the ring and cant beat multiple opponents" crap because 1] BJJ is BETTER in the streets because thtas what it is designed for. PLEASE get a fucking clue before saying such shit again. And 2] It doesnt matter how skilled a wing chun guy is, he cannot defend against the opponent's buddy kicking him while he's chain punching.
@SkemeKOS Are you saying that a BJJ guy could defend against that? He cant. And a WC guy has a much better chance with multiple opponents because going to the ground is not his first move. BJJ is useless in any situation other than a one on one, and you know it. At least the WC guy, or any other art that doesn't go straight to the ground...at least he could run from multiple attackers if he had to. It's hard to run when you're rolling around on the ground.
@SkemeKOS And if you think multiple opponents is an uncommon situation, you are wrong. The first fight I was ever in was getting jumped by about 6 dudes for being in the wrong neighborhood. I got my ass kicked. Then, when I was about 15, me and some friends went to a party and there were a bunch of skins there that started shit. When I was 21 a couple of guys were trying to start shit with me at a bar, and I took both of them on and won. All that was before I ever got into WC.
@SkemeKOS So I think it's you that's full of shit. BJJ is useless in a multiple opponent situation, which IN FACT does happen from time to time. A proficient WC guy has a far better chance in that situation.
So a wing chun guy fights 6 guys who are all punching, kicking, elbowing, keeing, grabbing, jumping, throwing, headlocking, stomping, headbutting him etc etc hes got a better chance than a BJJ guy? I dont think so. Even if just one of the guys grabbed him, he would be worse of than a BJJ guy
The FACT is that wing chun is no better at beating more than one guy than it is at beating just one guy. The fact is youre completely talking out your ass about BJJ not being street
@SkemeKOS A WC guy absolutely has a better chance. HE CAN STILL RUN AWAY IF HE HAS TO!!!! You can't do that rolling on the ground. Do you disagree? If you do, you're an idiot.
Again, WC doesn't patent all these things you're talking about. First eye gouging, throat crushing, now RUNNING? You're taking every Average Joe thing out there and claiming it's some WC hallmark.
No offense, you're giving too much fate in your system.
"If you see a WC guy in a real fight, he will most likely win."
There's no guarantees in fights.
No one, not even grappling UFC bros are endorsing to be a hero. If in extreme danger, like a weapon, we'd all run.
hey man, I thinks instead of saying "Useful sparring tips against a wing chun practitioner ", it's better to change the title to Tips against the particular set of movements. So people won't misunderstand you.
i askhandsomethomas from peru. I saw ur awesome, incredible, admirable nd wonderful video about how to avoid a WC trainer or sparring. My view point is that u have fought or sparred with so that is in low lvl at WC.U even dunno wats WC about.I dont really understand ur meaning or watever u wanna explain:act fast?u added 4 times act fast. u ar using WC vs WC. Wc is completely as fast as u dont imagine.U can avoid 2 many punches in less than 1sd nd also kick or punch 2 fast!.. u then
Wing Chun practitioners that have any sense won't bother striking at you from medium range. As you said, it's not ideal because most of their strikes won't connect. At that range they will generally be fast enough to defend any strike you use. So medium range is a waste of time. You're best bet is to use MMA principles. If you can't out strike em, take em to the ground. If you can't out wrestle, keep the fight standing. If they are better than you at both...you're screwed! lol
Tnx for posting HandsomeThomas. Since WC seems to concentrate on hand-strikes, how about kicking them low on their legs. I am thinking of low round house to the outside of knee.
I noticed that WC guys tend to stand with their knees pointing inward to protect the groin, I guess this can be used againts them?
@rimidalvetarak Wing Chun does have techniques to defend against kicks both low and high. Wing Chun does have kicking techniques. However, most of them are all low and no higher than the waist. This provides a much lower likelihood that the the kick will be trapped and countered with a takedown.
Lol everything you suggest wouldnt work against a decent fighter id euther katch ur arm down thrn blind side u ir kick u in the groin to bridge then attack ur upper body or simply take u down n finnish u there
Also... you suggest people to get as close as possible to the WT guy. Are you crazy? Wing Chun is a close quarters combat system!! WT guys are used to fight in very very very tight spaces. If you take your arms at that angle you are pretty much beaten, badly I should add.
You actually don't know what a Wing Chun attack can be, because Wing Chun is based on impulses and reaction. I am sorry man, I see your good intentions here, but all the tips you are showing are relying on wrong concepts, so they will be totally ineffective against a well trained WT practitioner. So, for all of you who want to deal with a WT guy in sparring, please don't follow this tips because you're going to be hurt.
in my opinion you should practice this tecnic with a veteran wc fighter, and after of that you'll see what happen. I say that why I've have practiced karate and wc for a few years, and I have practice my wc with my karate friends (and other types of martial arts). I'm sorry but that tecnic is incomplete you have to investigate more in wing chun, I encourage you in your search and do not fear if you have to make changes in karate techniques because martial arts are constantly evolving.
With all my respect to another martial arts : "this sucks . " Im very sorry, but everyone who is practicing WT could break your neck in second.... You have to many "empty spaces" . You do know Wing Chun , it is my meaning . WT practicioner - 8 years
They will hit your solarphlexus or lower ribs since it's easier than hitting face in 4:01
While I admire your efforts, I feel obliged to correct you a bit, so you can develop more. They won't blindly go for your face. They will attack any opening, meaning body targets as well.
Also when he grabbed your head, you should have broken his elbow in 3:50 and hit to the solarphlexus or lower ribcage, not try to elbow him. But that's chum kiu, a bit more advanced techniques.
Haha by "Wing Chun practicer. He means the guy watched a few youtube videos.. You need to spar someone in Wing Chun before assuming you can take someone down.. I see Choreographed bullshit...
@AskHandsomeThomas Well just because you can stop one move doesn't mean that is where the fight ends. Wing Chunis as defensive as it is offensive, not to mention most people that fight us don't know that we normally hold our hands low so that we can anticipate a high attack. *Who would punch someone in the chest with our arms guarding* You can't say your style is better than Wing Chun. Its like comparing xbox to ps3. ITs just debatable.
@AskHandsomeThomas im sorry all i see is you just bring your hand up and try to push wingchun guy away. Did you know that just offer your hand for them to do what they do best that is sticky hand or chisao. i assume wingchun guy that you sparring with he just beginner isnt it? or you just fantasy by yourself and think that high guard will protect you if you fight with wingchun guy? well good luck with that keep it you will need it.
You are by no means a real Master. You insult a martial art system because you allow yourself to be insulted by a comment from a keyboard warrior. Choreography exists in all martial arts,it serves both to train ppl and promote the art.
@Svemocn1Vidar And at what point did i ever said i'm a master at anything??
I'm by no means a master of anything nor do i want to be
if you knew anything about my youtube persona (yes persona we are all since people only have videos to judge my character) you would know that i do not promote being a master or being a know it all.
i preffer being seen as the guy in your/anyone's dojo
who know's a couple of tricks and would be more than willing to help you/anyone out in any way
Still you insulted a martial art system without prior and proper knowledge of the same. Not only that, but you contradict yourself with that comment due to the fact you stated yourself it's hard to defend against Wing Chun fighters and tried to give advice on how to handle them. Plus, your tactics are wrong anyhow.
No intention to direspect you,but i dislike people who insult martial art system without proper knowledge and application of the same.
Groet Ben
lol like the most you know nothing about wing chun ! sorry fight against someone who really learned wing chun and then try 2 make another video thank you sir !
Poor description of Wing Chun. Sorry. Wing Chun practitioners do not attack from every angle, it's all to do with center line. And the one Wing Chun key aspect is sensitivity. If you held up your arms like how you described and a wing chun fighter struck your arm and felt your arm move towards his face/head, first he would sense that and second are many things he can do to prevent that. I'm not saying wing chun is better, just the advice is a little poor and the aspects of wing chun are missed.
REMEMBER WING CHUNG BEST PERFORMANCE IS CLOSE RANGE FIGHTING!
hey he is the most borring instructor ever ! he doesnt look like he knows what he is talking about!! funny reminds me of my 8 year old nephew after a kung fu movie lol!
respect for video... My advice to you is spar with as many as wing chun fighters you can so you can perfect those defense techniques... but real wing chun fighter doesn't keeps punching in clinch, he grabs you with random technique and drops you or at least keeps his own distance, he won't let you keep him in clinch if it doesn't suit for him (most of the time it does tho). My advice is, keep distance until you destroy their legs with low kick. I trained Wing Chun and Muay Thai, now I train Judo

This is one of the reasons why it's difficult to get deep knowledge of wing chun and how to use it from good sifus. I've heard so many guys say they trained wc for 2, maybe 3 years then stopped because it was ineffective. Well, it takes the sifu at least 2 years to get to know you and most won't show you the real deal unless you are an in door student or disciple (to protect the styles secrets from being exposed on you tube !) If any wing chun guy gets beat by these techniques he deserves it.
thanks for sharing your thoughts.I agree that bringing the average WC'er to the ground could work, as it takes a very deep understanding of wingchun principles to use them on the ground, and very few people train properly this way. (im ignoring some hybrids like wingtsun that train in ground movements). But clinching a wc'er should not work easily because the basics of wingchun is forward motion and centerline control. Plus clinching is part of our dummy form,if there's a chance,we'd get it 1st
i am a Wingchuner but i Also practise Sanshou Wushu, Muaythai, BJJ, So if can't get closer with oponent to get Bridge, i use Long distance striking like Sanda,MuayThai, so how you'll gonna facing Me??? i concern to Wingchun, but i Complete with Sanda,Muaythai, and Grappling
I have been doing karate for 4 years en muay thai fighting for almost 2 years. I started recently training wing chun (almost 2 months now) What i would do against an wing chun fighter is: hitting him with a mawasi geri or pretend doing again a mawasi geri but then bring the leg down for a low kick just above his knee(s). It works for me because I am 1.93 m and got very good reach with the legs.
First too much talking. Second, the worst thing you can do against a wing chun guy is cover your face with your gard as he's gonna use it to blind you by pushing your arms against your body or better he will choose one side and go for the chain punch before you have time to blink an eye. Everything is on the distance and to be sensitive enough to counter the force of your opponent, once he coke you its too late!
great video - a perfect example of why I was never interested in Karate. doing WC now for 4 years and only just starting to generate much more power effortlessly through relaxation techniques and bringing the energy up the spine. only been in 2 street fights. first guy got scared and backed down when I faced up to him. punched the second guy straight through his guard (no centre line protection). fight was over in about 3 seconds.
i have only been training wing chun for a year and i can tell you that a wing chun practitioner should never just move directly in front of there opponent until he has already trapped your arms or as we call it sinking your bridges because we want to hit without getting hit or trade punches. we will touch hands and keep a certain distance until we see the opportunity to enter and we dont need to enter directly as well we can side step your movements and enter from your outside(left/right)
It is not that wing chun is the best, because not. It is just a difference of levels or how eveeryone use their own style, wc, karate, taekwoondo, skrima, etc. You have a idea how to solve a problem, but it is in static and moreover and in my opinion the big problem of your idea is it solves a way to join close contact, but there is not a way but thousands. So How do you know that your oponent will join you on this form and not to try to gain your flank? or put pressure on your arms to disarm?
There is no sparring in real wing chun. Despite, If one would like to outsmart a well-trained wingchun-guy, he should force him to attack or to leave his method. Decept or feint him to make active decisions and go straight for the groin in one single strike/kick. A psychological way would be: do, as if you were hurt and surprise his help with a nice shattering of his face.
The basics of wing chun which you may not have learned is always to get the opponents arms collapsed. kind of like how your hands would look infront of you with handcuffs. Wing chun tries to get the high ground and will force your arms to a submissive position. Someone else said a lop which moves the opponents arms to the far direction to shut down that side meaning 2 arms vs 1 arm defense(gate theory). I have extensive karate experience (even more than wing chun) and realize wing chun wins
In a way he gives respect to WC as someone who trains in WC I know how annoying it is to spar against someone who is very good at the style. The truth of the matter is you r supposed to hate fighting against a WC fighter its a very aggressive style. Its not pretty and its very unpredictable
Clinching won't work, an average WC practicioner knows how to use ''inch power''. With this they can hit their target with even a space of one inch with incredible force. SO DON'T CLINCH THEM!!!!!! Unless you want a broken rib XD
Clinching won't work, every average WC practioner knows how to use "inch strength''. With this they can strike even one inch away from their target with an incredible force..... SO DON'T CLINCH!!!! Unless you want a broken rib XD
I appreciate that you want to learn to do better against a WC fighter. The problem is that you really can't mix a combat art with a sport. Even MMA has way too many rules to say it is effective in the street. If you are having trouble against other arts, try changing arts until you find one satisfies your needs. We would love to see you at a WC class. Best of luck in the future.
We learn to defend ourselves and those we love. We look for the quickest way to maim or kill someone that is trying to hurt us. It's fun to pretend but can't say you spar against Wing Chun guys if you leave out these skills since our first targets are eyes, throat and groin. I teach my daughters to gouge, claw and bite anything they can get ahold of when their life is in danger. You have to tell yourself it's OK to kill someone to release your animal inside. Wing Chun is not a sport.
The problem is that what you are learning is a sport. It is meant to teach you to spar and compete in tournaments. There is a list of rules that keeps you from getting seriously hurt so that you can pay to come back next week and compete again. Wing Chun, the way we are taught, is not something that can be sparred against. We can but we have to put most of our arsenal in our back pockets and leave it there so that we don't hurt you. We don't learn so that we can go to contests and get trophies.
How stupid! You reall y have NO IDEA about Wing Chun. You're leaving your center line open with your arms like that. A good Wing Chun practicitioner would just land an upper cut to you jaw between your arms. Don't forget, a Wing Chun practitioner has legs too. He'd attack your knees, shins, hips, groin, you name it. Bad advice! You'd get your ass kicked royally!
@etdejazz He's going over the parts where he actually struggled. What's the point in worrying about something you didn't find difficult to fight against? Solve the problems you have before making more otherwise you just sit there thinking and stop doing.
@psychedashell He shouldn't comment on things where he has obviously a lack of knowledge. He should have consulted with a Wing Chun instructor to gain real insight. He clearly did no such thing.
@etdejazz Then you just get the monotonous merry-go-round as each stylist brings up one of a thousand counters that an attack can be responded to with. What he's doing is speaking as an outsider who is pointing out what he did that seemed to work against the guys he fought & where he struggled. Ask a wing chung practitioner how to fight against a wing chung practitioner & his answer won't matter to a kickboxer who doesn't have the same skill set to follow that advice.
thoughtful, intelligent analysis, but he's oversimplified it, doesn't understand it's fundamentals and he's assuming Wing Chun's a one trick pony (and no I'm not a practitioner).
I liked your video it was very cool I think you would make a really good Wing chun student because of you are a thinker and thats what you learn in Wing chun to work things out as you learn.Center lines from different angles, bridging the gaps or openings.I love all martial arts ,each is unique and its beauty lies in the hands of of a skilled technitian. Thanks I enjoyed your vid ps think about doing WC .
@AskHandsomeThomas Taking a chueng style wing chun fighter to the ground is the worst idea ever, got the split eyebrow to show it to. Oh but the arm thing your doing is good against an average wing chung guy, but an above average one will A lop your arm out of the way or b just step back and front kick you stomach or stomp kick your knee caps.

Oh but the arm thing your doing is good against an average wing chung guy, but an above average one will A lop your arm out of the way or b just step back and front kick you stomach or stomp kick your knee caps. Oh and wing chun guys atleast a good amount of them fight dirty like me you bring us neer your balls we are going to rip em off just food for thought.
@AskHandsomeThomas No, but the martial art is very dirty, if you get the right teacher. It's made so a 100 pound women can kill a 250 pound man. You think the womem did that by fighting fare?
@AskHandsomeThomas no, definately not, and there is only one lineage with good fighters so most wing chun guys just pose their obvious invincibility as they got "taught" by their "masters".
One thing is true though: If a wing chun fighter know his shit, he'll do severe damage to your neck while you go for the takedown. To be honest, in a real fight it's about life and death and I'd honestly kill the one trying to get me where he could kill "me" easily because it's his territory, while he tries.
@AskHandsomeThomas Have you sparred a wing chun guy? and do you know what lineage? Cause it seems like your judging a wing chun practitioner based on one particular lineage/family tree. Which doesn't seem to be an accurate observation. I grapple and do wing chun, and I could say that wing chun does help A LOT when it comes to ground work.
@BACKWARDSgameREVIEWS I love wing chun, but seriously man. I practice wing chun, and jujitsu. And let me tell you. When a good jujitsu guy has you mounted, there is no way your getting to his ball. He isnt just going to sit there. He is going to be punching you in the face, and choking you out before you can say your name once. Wing Chun is great at close-quarters and for rapid assualt scenarios. But, on the ground, its very limited. no one style has all the answers
@AskHandsomeThomas WHAT ,if you think you could just take it to the ground ,with any decent wing chun practitioner your misundeerstanding wing chun ,wing chun's real fighting not mud wresteling or cage fighting. IT IS NOT A FACT 90% OF FIGHT GO TO THE FLOOR!!! but 90% of jui jitsu practioner's would go to the floor unconcious if they tried taking it to the floor. if anyone wants to try it .message me! :D peace..lol
@vonHerbstleben If you mean Leung Ting when you say LT...that's a pretty funny statement. I've met a few from that lineage, and they certainly do brag. lol
@banheden I disagree with that, I believe that trying to learn every style is a fools game. Taking one or two styles then visiting training centers for a fortnight or a month for sparring experience is a far better method. Being good at one or two arts then learning through exposure will get you further than any single school or style ever will.
that isnt going to work at all. there was a 14 year old girl at my school years ago who would destroy you. you spend more time talking than you do showing the technique. no good. i think you just watch a lot of movies. you remind me of my 8 year old nephew who thinks he can mimic anyone he sees in kung fu movies.
@AskHandsomeThomas I agree with you on that point, but that's the issue of the minority of wing chun practitioners. I can tell most of the high level wing chun practitioners have been through several types of Martial arts prior to commencing training Wing Chun. Or at least they know some basic techiques on those they're gonna deal with.
@AskHandsomeThomas actually in this film you showed one of the principles of combat in the style of wing chun. This shows that in many martial styles strategies are similar. Anyway I would like to see the movie where you are practicing with a real expert in wing chun.
this video is crap ......... my wing chun or not it's depend's to the person it's depends on his system you shit head!!!! your so baby in martial arts ............ what are a gay!!!!!!

OK i see. My friend please watch traditional wing chun. If Grandmaster William Cheung were there or who else lowest teachers of wing chun if you defend like that with cross hands he would trap your elbow and he would step into your blind side right or left or worst would cross your both hands with one hand where you will never free your self from that position. Then tell me are this gards will protect you. And with modificated wing chun would be hard. Wing chun is killer art trust me.

Wrong. Tell that to a judoka, grecco roman wrestler or BJJ fighter whos fighting distance is even CLOSER than wing chun is used to. Wing chun doesnt want to get close to those styles.

@SkemeKOS of course, i was speaking from the stand point of a kyokushin player, the style that is represented in this video...

@yardkyle
Ah I see.
SkemeKOS 1 month ago
@SkemeKOS If a Wing Chun practitioner is proficient in the full style, wrestling is not a problem for him. Wing Chun is a full style and all areas of fighting are covered, including ground work. BJJ and Greco Roman are great for the ring. On the street, not so much. If you should happen to be confronted with more than 1 person, even the most skilled BJJ practitioner cannot defend against the opponent's buddy kicking him while he's rolling on the ground.
wingchisao 1 month ago
@wingchisao
COMPLETE shit bro.
SkemeKOS 1 month ago
@SkemeKOS Are you saying that a BJJ guy could defend against that? He cant. And a WC guy has a much better chance with multiple opponents because going to the ground is not his first move. BJJ is useless in any situation other than a one on one, and you know it. At least the WC guy, or any other art that doesn't go straight to the ground...at least he could run from multiple attackers if he had to. It's hard to run when you're rolling around on the ground.
wingchisao 1 month ago
@SkemeKOS And if you think multiple opponents is an uncommon situation, you are wrong. The first fight I was ever in was getting jumped by about 6 dudes for being in the wrong neighborhood. I got my ass kicked. Then, when I was about 15, me and some friends went to a party and there were a bunch of skins there that started shit. When I was 21 a couple of guys were trying to start shit with me at a bar, and I took both of them on and won. All that was before I ever got into WC.
wingchisao 1 month ago
@SkemeKOS So I think it's you that's full of shit. BJJ is useless in a multiple opponent situation, which IN FACT does happen from time to time. A proficient WC guy has a far better chance in that situation.
wingchisao 1 month ago
@wingchisao
SkemeKOS 1 month ago
@SkemeKOS A WC guy absolutely has a better chance. HE CAN STILL RUN AWAY IF HE HAS TO!!!! You can't do that rolling on the ground. Do you disagree? If you do, you're an idiot.
wingchisao 1 month ago
@wingchisao
Wing chun guy isnt running ANYWHERE if he gets grabbed and taken down. Do you disagree? If you do, youre an idiot.
SkemeKOS 1 month ago
@wingchisao

If they are better than you at both...you're screwed! lol
djsting 3 months ago
Tnx for posting HandsomeThomas. Since WC seems to concentrate on hand-strikes, how about kicking them low on their legs. I am thinking of low round house to the outside of knee.
I noticed that WC guys tend to stand with their knees pointing inward to protect the groin, I guess this can be used againts them?
Please comment...
rimidalvetarak 3 months ago
@rimidalvetarak Wing Chun does have techniques to defend against kicks both low and high. Wing Chun does have kicking techniques. However, most of them are all low and no higher than the waist. This provides a much lower likelihood that the the kick will be trapped and countered with a takedown.

Also... you suggest people to get as close as possible to the WT guy. Are you crazy? Wing Chun is a close quarters combat system!! WT guys are used to fight in very very very tight spaces. If you take your arms at that angle you are pretty much beaten, badly I should add.

in my opinion you should practice this tecnic with a veteran wc fighter, and after of that you'll see what happen.

Keep on practicing! :)

I'm not saying wing chun is better, just the advice is a little poor and the aspects of wing chun are missed.

respect for video...

Well, it takes the sifu at least 2 years to get to know you and most won't show you the real deal unless you are an in door student or disciple (to protect the styles secrets from being exposed on you tube !) If any wing chun guy gets beat by these techniques he deserves it.
jasma98 6 months ago
thanks for sharing your thoughts.I agree that bringing the average WC'er to the ground could work, as it takes a very deep understanding of wingchun principles to use them on the ground, and very few people train properly this way. (im ignoring some hybrids like wingtsun that train in ground movements). But clinching a wc'er should not work easily because the basics of wingchun is forward motion and centerline control. Plus clinching is part of our dummy form,if there's a chance,we'd get it 1st

First too much talking. Second, the worst thing you can do against a wing chun guy is cover your face with your gard as he's gonna use it to blind you by pushing your arms against your body or better he will choose one side and go for the chain punch before you have time to blink an eye. Everything is on the distance and to be sensitive enough to counter the force of your opponent, once he coke you its too late!

great video - a perfect example of why I was never interested in Karate. doing WC now for 4 years and only just starting to generate much more power effortlessly through relaxation techniques and bringing the energy up the spine. only been in 2 street fights. first guy got scared and backed down when I faced up to him. punched the second guy straight through his guard (no centre line protection). fight was over in about 3 seconds.
upaste 7 months ago 2
i have only been training wing chun for a year and i can tell you that a wing chun practitioner should never just move directly in front of there opponent until he has already trapped your arms or as we call it sinking your bridges because we want to hit without getting hit or trade punches. we will touch hands and keep a certain distance until we see the opportunity to enter and we dont need to enter directly as well we can side step your movements and enter from your outside(left/right)

Silveriomrs 8 months ago
There is no sparring in real wing chun. Despite, If one would like to outsmart a well-trained wingchun-guy, he should force him to attack or to leave his method. Decept or feint him to make active decisions and go straight for the groin in one single strike/kick. A psychological way would be: do, as if you were hurt and surprise his help with a nice shattering of his face.
11Kralle 8 months ago
The basics of wing chun which you may not have learned is always to get the opponents arms collapsed. kind of like how your hands would look infront of you with handcuffs. Wing chun tries to get the high ground and will force your arms to a submissive position. Someone else said a lop which moves the opponents arms to the far direction to shut down that side meaning 2 arms vs 1 arm defense(gate theory). I have extensive karate experience (even more than wing chun) and realize wing chun wins

Best of luck in the future.
jwmerrett 8 months ago
We learn to defend ourselves and those we love. We look for the quickest way to maim or kill someone that is trying to hurt us. It's fun to pretend but can't say you spar against Wing Chun guys if you leave out these skills since our first targets are eyes, throat and groin. I teach my daughters to gouge, claw and bite anything they can get ahold of when their life is in danger. You have to tell yourself it's OK to kill someone to release your animal inside. Wing Chun is not a sport.
jwmerrett 8 months ago 2
The problem is that what you are learning is a sport. It is meant to teach you to spar and compete in tournaments. There is a list of rules that keeps you from getting seriously hurt so that you can pay to come back next week and compete again. Wing Chun, the way we are taught, is not something that can be sparred against. We can but we have to put most of our arsenal in our back pockets and leave it there so that we don't hurt you. We don't learn so that we can go to contests and get trophies.
jwmerrett 8 months ago 2
Bad advice! You'd get your ass kicked royally!
etdejazz 8 months ago 2
@etdejazz He's going over the parts where he actually struggled. What's the point in worrying about something you didn't find difficult to fight against? Solve the problems you have before making more otherwise you just sit there thinking and stop doing.
psychedashell 8 months ago
@psychedashell He shouldn't comment on things where he has obviously a lack of knowledge. He should have consulted with a Wing Chun instructor to gain real insight. He clearly did no such thing.
etdejazz 8 months ago
@etdejazz Then you just get the monotonous merry-go-round as each stylist brings up one of a thousand counters that an attack can be responded to with. What he's doing is speaking as an outsider who is pointing out what he did that seemed to work against the guys he fought & where he struggled. Ask a wing chung practitioner how to fight against a wing chung practitioner & his answer won't matter to a kickboxer who doesn't have the same skill set to follow that advice.
psychedashell 8 months ago
thoughtful, intelligent analysis, but he's oversimplified it, doesn't understand it's fundamentals and he's assuming Wing Chun's a one trick pony (and no I'm not a practitioner).

AskHandsomeThomas 9 months ago 7
@AskHandsomeThomas No, but the martial art is very dirty, if you get the right teacher. It's made so a 100 pound women can kill a 250 pound man. You think the womem did that by fighting fare?
BACKWARDSgameREVIEWS 9 months ago
@AskHandsomeThomas no, definately not, and there is only one lineage with good fighters so most wing chun guys just pose their obvious invincibility as they got "taught" by their "masters".
One thing is true though: If a wing chun fighter know his shit, he'll do severe damage to your neck while you go for the takedown. To be honest, in a real fight it's about life and death and I'd honestly kill the one trying to get me where he could kill "me" easily because it's his territory, while he tries.
vonHerbstleben 9 months ago
@AskHandsomeThomas Have you sparred a wing chun guy? and do you know what lineage? Cause it seems like your judging a wing chun practitioner based on one particular lineage/family tree. Sorry, how could you do anything against a system while it can be seen that you know VERY LITTLE about that system? :(
wingchunaddict4288 9 months ago
@wingchunaddict4288 same as wing chun shows how to defend against a grappler or any other style.
i do not have to have perfect wing chun in order to do something against it
AskHandsomeThomas 9 months ago
@AskHandsomeThomas I agree with you on that point, but that's the issue of the minority of wing chun practitioners. I can tell most of the high level wing chun practitioners have been through several types of Martial arts prior to commencing training Wing Chun. Or at least they know some basic techiques on those they're gonna deal with.
wingchunaddict4288 9 months ago
@wingchunaddict4288 Sure but most of the time those people are much older then i am
i just 24 years old and 21 in the video i still have some time :)

@Bulletspit Been there done that.
got him in a chlinch took him to the ground punched him and submitted him due to a nech crank....
AskHandsomeThomas 9 months ago
@AskHandsomeThomas actually in this film you showed one of the principles of combat in the style of wing chun. This shows that in many martial styles strategies are similar. Anyway I would like to see the movie where you are practicing with a real expert in wing chun.

in wing chun we fight in very close range...so if another style gets some1 who does wing chun in close range then he is probably gonna loose

@AskHandsomeThomas
at 0:43 what u mean? that our style isnt good? or that u just dont like the way we fight?
TheIpmanFan 9 months ago
@TheIpmanFan No its actually a compliment, for me its difficult to spar against you guy due to a awckward range and speed (for me that is)
