Much love from one Rush fan to another, I loved this song. It was a perfect song for a 12 year old nerdy kid in the 80s to have to rock out too, about something you loved that no one else gave two shits about. But then Rush always made me feel like they got that about ...I dunno...being an outsider.
Great job. This is one of my favorite Rush songs to drum to... in my car... on my steering wheel... my left foot striking the door as the bass pedal while my right operates the gas... LOL
Im a guitarist, fan of Mr Lifeson, and I love watching Neil's parts being played. By him or by everyone, it's top notch drumming always. Congrats for covering this underrated song!
I wish someone at NASA's public affairs office would get a hold of Rush and have them redo their video for this song for the last shuttle launch coming up in February. The original video (from what 1982???) had footage of the first shuttle launch STS-1 since it had the white insulation on the external tank. It would be coolness to the Nth degree if they released a new version for the last, there for the beginning, and there for the end.
good stuff ... and while it is an accomplishment to be able to even play this, what amazes me even more is that Neal Peart was able to create this, that is quiet a feat and he's been able to repeat that so many times with some of the best drumming I've ever heard
Bro this is one of my favorite Rush songs, i saw them in San Diego on the Signals tour 1983, you are awesome, just don't let it go to your head LOL, you rock keep up the great work ok?
So, I started the video, but then had to jump over to do some work....however...the snare work in the first 30 seconds brought me back...very nice work! There are a lot of good Neil covers on YouTube....this one is GREAT!! Well done!!
Dude, you must be kiddin', this is perhaps my favorite Rush song and this is the best video on the entire internet ! It is very obvious your heart is in this and all of you wonderful work. Thank you for inspiring up and coming drummers like me and for having the guts to put this up in the first place. I wish Rush would release a better video of Countdown. It's not often Canadians make me proud to be an American but this song does just that!
25 years ago I was playing drums with the headphones on because I didn't have any other musicians nearby. Eventually gave it up. This one was on my list along with many other Rush songs.
What?!? You tryin to play like Neal Peart with a single bass??? Just yankin your chain, that was excellent work. I always thought this track would have gotten alot more play time on radio if it had been a couple of minutes shorter.
Hehe. What many do not realize is that Neil has played double bass with Rush for 17 years (until Roll the Bones) and has been using one single bass drum with double pedal for 18 years now!
@Astrotama Just curious, but whats easier double bass or single? And how does the double pedal work? The right heel hits and front hits alternately? Oh and hows AZ going for ya?
The camera has nothing to do with this. At the time, it was not possible to upload higher resolution video to YouTube so the original version was compressed to death. The most recent stuff uses exactly the same setup.
Very nice job -one of Neil's lighter song definitely =I know they hate this song and are embarassed by it-It is a perfectly good song - Geddy thought the keyboard solo was lame -the ending jam is a great groove and one I wish they had main a main riff to another song =Love your stick action so much life in those
@Astrotama Please explain for those of us who don't know jack squat about drumming, I've seen Rush several times, is drumming really as tiring as it looks? It seems superhuman that Neil could play drums to every song on an album like Signals in 1 show with Spirit of Radio, Red Barchetta, Temples of Syrinx, and an extended drum solo mixed in.
very nice job on the drums. curious...how some of us science and space geeks also have a talent for instruments. i'm a pilot and a meteorologist and i ain't too shabby at the guitar.
What a great song. I loved this song right away when the record came out. I was a soph in high school and couldn't wait for this album and loved everything about it. Great job on the drums. Well done. Thanks for choosing this song.
Oh, this is so perfect... As a huge Rush fan, I was waiting for the Endeavor launch scrubbed at T-minus 10 while listening and watching anything I could find of "Countdown"... I still have the long play single of that song (Side B).... Thank you!!! That was awesome!!
Really enjoyed this....spot on mate!...one of my fave Rush tracks...play it loud in the car in central London alot...you worked really hard at that...Niel Peart is a marvel....he's all over that kit...and so were you...nice one....James

You guys are so funny. I live with my wife, also a musician, in our soon-to-be new house in Tucson. My parents are 2000 miles from here. As the director of a major observatory here, I am allowed to have my own roof.;)
Ever notice how cool everyone is in RUSH chatrooms? No B.S. No name-calling, and no attitude. We're all just here to enjoy some kick-ass rock 'n roll!
Wow, man, that's pretty impressive, I barely heard any flamming throughout the song, you're pretty dead-on there, great energetic performance, and you're up against one of NP's best drum performances there, you rock, man.
WOW! I am not a drummer or anything but you are awesome! I am very impressed. To take on a song by the greatest rock drummer ever is quite an undertaking and you nailed it! MY hat is off to you. I am a big RUSH fan and this is one of my favorite songs.
That was fucking awesome to watch dude!!! Shit- It was so in sync with the Neil that I couldn't even differentiate the playing. Plus, it was loud and not distorted and it sounded like you were playing with Geddy and Alex. It was awesome, a pleasure to watch. I am going to watch it again!!!.
Thanks! The last thing I want to be is Neil Peart... :) So far, I've had a pretty good life and would not switch it with anybody... ;) All I want to do here is to pay tribute to his marvelous drumming. I probably know more than anyone that nobody will ever be able to perfectly duplicate his playing. This is not the point for me at all. I'm just a hobbyist on the drums and that's going to stay that way. ;)
Watched a few of your vids and this is one of the best! Great work. For those who always put out there.."Oh, you're no Peart"... Who cares!! Some come close but....ok I'll quit bitchin :-) Anyway, keep on gettin' it...you sounds great!!

Thanks! I lived in Chile for 2 years in 1996-97! Lots of Rush fans there. I hope you get them to play over there some day. I like DW drums, no doubt. But... I LOVE Tama drums, so no contest for me! ;)
