  • He may be aging but he's still strong and crisp.

Why do people critisise this guy? He could break them into pieces.

  • Questa agilità e velocità, questo equilibrio, la pace che trasmette... vorrei averli io, a 73 anni.

"L'essenza del percorso delle arti marziali risiede nella pace e la felicità di tutti gli esseri umani"

    (Hironori Otsuka)

    Onore a te, Grande Maestro.

  • and also your technique has to be at an exceptional level aswell as your fitness all kicks have to be head height no exceptions all punches have to with correct forget one twist or falter on your technique then you fail

  • @jda746 i understand your point of view i mean it will take years to get a black belt afterall my Dojo we arent just handed them out for a good technique. I know some Dojo's actually do that not in our style though no way in hell.

  • its sort of scary to think i have to learn this to advance from purple to brown but ive only been Purple for like 2 months so plenty of time o learn and improve on it.

  • @shmad1 i have to say im your competition dude lol i have Wado-Ryu's crest tattoed on my back and have been doing it for 3 years this august and ive yet to fail a grading not to mention im a purple belt which isnt too shabby for the amount of time ive been doing it. I do have respect for anybody that does my/our style though i mean its so under rated that its just wrong. BUT this world will know Wado-Ryu as far as im around i will promote it to my absolute full in any form and shape:D

  • @KaratesDisciple in three years i got to my first dan blackbelt BKA approved. i did this kata in my first comp. good to see how its done by a true legend.

  • @jda746 when you say you got to your black belt in three years is that form being a total beginner to black belt or trained for your black belt for three years

  • @johnny1985torrio total begnnier

  • @jda746 there is no way you have got to black belt from being a total beginner unless you are either a liar or at a mickey mouse club that just hands out belts for attendance arriving on time and trying your hardest at our club you have to spend one year training before even being considered for your black belt grading thats not including all the years prior training for for the other belts and every kata has to be spot on no mistakes

  • @johnny1985torrio nah i did wen i was young quit n stated agen n jumped a few grades plus it wernt the club who graded the black belt it was the bka clubs arnt supposed to grde the black belt officially u av to no atleast 8 katas n no mistakes even in stances and wen the bka people decide u av to turn away it was of the most nervous moment of my life wen they did that u cud hear them whispering but to far away to hear properly but i left it to play rugby

  • @sji123 the same people who think this is easy cant do the kihon kata right or at all lol

  • @onimas1 i done wado for 5 years and got to my third kyu have lately just started shotakan and i think that each style has its own advantages and diadvantages

  • @shmad1 you are rigth sir i was just expresing my love for wado ryu thou (im a little of a fun boy i cant help it) have a good day =D

  • @onimas1 hahaha and a good day to you to :)

  • teaching my daughter this kata at the moment so nice to see it done as it should be

  • idk about any of you but i could watch that 100 times and never get bored of it

  • Nothing like watching the man who created it.

  • @TheRealTinGod

hey, he wasn´t the jungest at that time.

if i would perform this kata at an age of 65 or70, its clear this wouldn´t be the best!

  • @polshaniar not sure i understand what you mean. It looks pretty good to me. Maybe not the unmitigated power of a younger man, but the flow is there.

  • ive done this kata for my exam..not so difficult..and its beautiful...

  • I must do this kata to pass my karate exam ìt's a pretty difficult kata

  • I'm learning this kata at the moment, and I'm up to about 00:40. Very difficult kata.

  • Wow, I actually remember watching this video (along with other katas by Ohtsuka) when my father and some of his friends watched them years ago.

  • Strong and fast, for his age... (Maybe he forgot one Heisokudachi position, that became Musubidachi....)

  • maybe he forgot.. yea right

  • a legendary kata performed by a legendary practitioner. I didn't realise that Hironori Otsuka had made these films.

It can be unsettling when different sensai's teach you different things. One finds themselves asking "which is the right way". well folks. . . this is it!

  • ur right

i was lucky and learned it this way

  • a fair comment but don't forget that evrything evolves. as things move in and out of fashion so the kata change. shotokan was very popular 10 years ago but now shito ryu katas are the most commonly performed in my experience.

although it is good to see the founder of the art doing it.

  • @lewisfitzjohn On the other hand, when Otsuka was asked by a student what was the correct way to perform a technique, he replied whatever way feels right to you.

  • were would we been without the sensei... my respect

  • OSU!

  • I have never seen footage of the old man before-just knelt for many painful hours in front of his picture. He died the year I started training. Amazing to see it--very soft and flowing compared to Tatsuo's sharp and snappy moves.

  • true. i would imagine this is a rare video, capturing ohtsuka at that time doing kusanku, or better yet, any kata. much respects to Ohtsuka sensei.

  • The only Wado master today who does

kata like Otsuka is Shingo Ohgami.

The others put their own spin on it.

    Too much power.

  • respect for Ohtsuka sensei :)

  • this is by far better than the other posts of kushanku. the modern ones are crap this is wado. not what the yanks post !!!!!!!!!

  • this has realy helped me learn kushanku .thanks go to Otsuka Hironori
