@TheBoarStopper I didnt know that. But it looks cool. Can you tell me how they keep water from getting into the axles and transfer cases? We dont have these things here. And darn, what kinda tires are those?
@nfarnham2008 Its a 3.8 liter v-6 from an old s-10 with really good mufflers. Its meant for hunting, not racing. You gots to be quiet in the woods and go for a long way on a small tank of gas. It has D-60's front and rear and detroit lockers on both and runs a 4 to 1 doubler to get the tire speed nice and slow. It only weighs about 3,400 lbs (much of that tires and wheels) and its top speed is about 30mph in 3rd gear. Any more questions?
@erikeverett Oh wow, I never thought it would turn those tires to be honest, but the 3800 block is one of chevy's better v6 blocks. Good job on the buggy.
Sweet. I had an 88 kingcab that was AWESOME offroad machine. It would go where Jeep CJ and Jeep cherokee could not. Would love to get new Tacoma, rented a new Tundra and drove it as pit truck from Vegas to Reno race last year, was not impressed with it on off-road. looked like you guys were having fun the same way we do here, in Missouri. Playing with our toys in the mud!
Actually the water almost comes over one tire on the deep side of the hole for just a second. Momentum and water displacement cane make the water go above a tire even if the water level is actually a little lower. Still, the water there is over 4 feet at the deepest part of the hole. I walked it. However you are right in that most of the trail at that point is around 2.5 to 3 feet.
Well you can't buy them from General Motors, that's for sure. Most are home made, but there are a few professional builders around and many owners sell their used buggies. Search the internet.
It's just 2-wheel steering, although there are buggies in the swamps herre that are 4-wheel steering or are articulated in the midframe. The hole is about 5ft or 1.6M deep. We bought it, but it was made here locally.
You should be able to get a map of all the ORV trails in the Big Cypress, including Bear Island from the Oasis on US41 or sometimes the check stations have them.
The herd is typical for any place they allow morons with no sense of quality deer management to hunt. You know, the typical redneck jackazz school of thought..."If it's brown, it's down because if I don't kill it someone else will."
Those who hunt there are not the morons, however the people making the laws are questionable. Any way you look at it, you're an azzhole... which is much worse... and I'm glad you won't be hunting there, and in my way, when I put a spike buck in the freezer. Big antlers don't make it taste better. In fact sometimes I wish the deer I shot didn't have any antlers... but then again, that's those questionable morons making the laws.
Actually, I am a wildlife biologist by trade and your comments only prove my point. You've no clue what your taking a spike does to the future of that deer herd. Florida is capable of growing trophy deer. It's the lack of intelligence and egotistical dummies that ruin it.
I've been in the area more than you (I guarantee) and there are lots of folks in there that are not morons. But, those who take a spike and brag are defninitely morons and are the problem. Can't cure stupid.
I have to agree with anoriginal regarding the " if I don't kill it someone else will." mentality thats so prevalent out there.
I've been hunting the cypress since 1976 and have seen the herd go thru its cycles.Recently the number of bucks seem to be on a steady
decline ,especially near airplane prairie. One factor seems to be a greater number of new hunters (not young)that are only there "to kill one and then the pressures off".Post rut , all thats taken is spikes for the most part, no horns.
Relax dude... its the "redneck jackazz" comment that prompted me to jab you in the ribs. It's uncalled for and abrasive. Maybe next time try to get your point across without offending anyone. Kind of like rcruz003... calm and cool
My comment regarding "redneck jackazz" was directed at a school of thought and those that adhere to it. If it offends anyone, I'm not sorry. It should be offensive as those buying into this school of thought are offensive in their game harvesting practices to the rest of us.
Nope. We're just good ol' boys, but I've seen one similar to ours that the FWC uses out there. I think ours is a little taller and narrower. When we first went through the hole, we sure FELT like we were going to roll. Very nerve wracking. Be careful if you ever venture on that trail. Thanks!

Is this the most efficient way to run a swamp? What about airboats? Do the tires on your buggy have suspension? Thanks.
9w2xyz 2 months ago
@9w2xyz Really it is the most effective way, an air boat is faster, but a swamp buggy can handle just about anything!

What are your thoughts on taking does as an integral part of deer management?
6faces 2 years ago
I think harvesting does is a very important and integral part of deer management. The science behind it supports it 100%.
Also, I own a camp in the Big Cypress south of the Alley and North of the Trail. Not too far from the Little Deer air strip. Nice video!
anoriginal 2 years ago
Well at least we agree on does. I wish they'd let us take a few from the Big Cypress.
I'll have to check out your camp some day.

Yeah, it's a tall one. Only problem is that when it swings in the suspension, the taller it is, the farther you swing. Hang on!
