The largest metro area in Thule isn't the Öresund Region like Danes think.
Mälaren Valley + Linköping/Norrköping has 4.5 million inhabitants. Much of forest and farmland between say Motala and Örebro, yes, but this area could be seen as the coherent structure of a hand, with Sthlm being the palm and the densely populated areas along major roads and railways forming the fingers.
This region is the true "motor" of Scandinavia. One truth leaving Öresund brawnbeated in utter confusion.
Copenhagen is, formally speaking, closer to being a "capital" of Scandinavia (and Finland) as it is the seat of the Nordic Council. BUT, whichever measure of demographics, economy, cultural and scientific influence you adopt, Stockholm will come out as a winner.

Stockholm is booming these days from many perspectives. The only thing it lacks, though, is somthing less conservative, modern in its architecture. :)

Well, Stockholm already has a reputation of a booming city (economically, innovation-wise, etc.), while Copenhagen remains to be a capital with the best airport and restaurnats in the region. Still, Stockholms Arlanda will be expanded into a large airport city that may attract much more business to the metro area of the city. :)

Anyone that has visited both the southernmost part of Scandinavia as well as the real center of the Nordic countries; namely Stockholm, could tell what a difference there is between 4.5 million inhabitants living in nice houses (inner Sthlm is for people who have no life though) and the Öresund region of 3.5 million inhabitants. Danes think they're all that, but most of them don't even own a house. An ordinary Swedish family owns two homes and drive a Volvo V70. Top that!

Mälaren Valley has a population of 3,082,088 and a population density of 89/km². Area 34,520.27

This month the worlds richest pension fund from Norway bought shares that represented 6% of all swedish forrest in the company SCA. This together with Spitzbergen makes Norway bigger than sweden in size. Norway have further plans to buy up swedish areal, lets sweden slowly become Norway, but we need to educate them, so they speak proper Norwegian, and not their uggly language. sweden are lucky to have a rich brother beside them, or else it would been somebody else buying up their poor country

The fact is there is no capital of Scandinavia. This pitting Scandinavian countries against each other has gone on for quite some time. Face it Scandinavia is one big happy family secure in themselves. They have plenty of space.

Stockholm + Uppsala, Norrköping, Linköping, Västerås, Örebro is a much larger cityscape than CPH and Roskilde.
Furthermore, Stockholm is one of the leading cities on Earth when it comes to economic matters. Copenhagen exactly isn't.

Well, Stockholm already has a reputation of a booming city (economically, innovation-wise, etc.), while Copenhagen remains to be a capital with the best airport and restaurnats in the region. Still, Stockholms Arlanda will be expanded into a large airport city that may attract much more business to the metro area of the city. :)

Anyone that has visited both the southernmost part of Scandinavia as well as the real center of the Nordic countries; namely Stockholm, could tell what a difference there is between 4.5 million inhabitants living in nice houses (inner Sthlm is for people who have no life though) and the Öresund region of 3.5 million inhabitants. Danes think they're all that, but most of them don't even own a house. An ordinary Swedish family owns two homes and drive a Volvo V70. Top that!

As my hometown, and as a world traveler, I feel I am qualified to say Stockholm is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, but I take issue with this promotion for several reasons;
1) Swedes are mostly humble, gracious people, Stockholm is the capital of Sweden, a sovereign nation which is "part" of Scandinavia. To say we are the capital of Scandinavia is presumptuous & rude & very un-Swedish.

I know that Oslo is much smaller than Copenhagen and Stockholm. Anyway, the city is located in scandinavia. It has the second largest airport in Scandinavia right behind Copenhagen (CPH) with Stockholm (Arlanda) third.

The Metro Region of Malmö has over 630 000 inhabitants - It isn't exactly a suburb of Cph. Far from being dependent on what goes on in the Danish capital, Malmö, in terms of economy, culture and science, is looking to the development in Lund - a far more dynamic city than Copenhagen in these fields..

I think it's kinda silly to market Stockholm as the capital of Scandinavia, but still, if you wanna market a region or city you gotta stand out to attract visitors. But if say, Copenhagen would have marketed itself as the capital of Scandinavia, all swedes would be equally pissed :P

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden, not Scandinavia. There is no capital of Scandinavia, and why should it be Stockholm and not Copenhagen or Oslo.
I'm not saying i don't like Stockholm, i'm just saying it's not the capital of Scandinavia.
