Great review. I just ordered mine today. Can't wait to get it. I'm a poor man watch collector. I've been wanting a watch that has that second hand sweep function but I couldn't afford the higher end watches. After watching your review I feel pretty proud to have purchased this model. I'll wear it with pride.

have owned and loved my scond hand orange monster for aout 2 years now and agree with eveything in the review - tremendous watch for the £85 GBP I paid second hand off ebay! I'm an experienced British Scuba diver and I can say that at 45m diving in dark cold water off Britain the lume in dark cold murky water is ace! Deffo reccomend this watch IF you can hold of one.

Going to pick up my first real watch. This or the orient mako? I like the mako cuz it looks like rolex submariner, a watch I lust after I kind of fell in love with the monster lume .... Advice? Won't be doing any any diving with it

Why the bezel is hard to turn in the water? The reason is that the bezel connects with the case by a rubber ring - once it gets wet, the friction increases.

Hope that helps and enjoy the watch - it is a great piece and the best deal in the 100-200$ price range, in my opinion.

@deepee0979 - I've never seen the Black or Orange Monster drop below $175 on Amazon over the past 3-plus weeks that I've been following it -- I'm referring to the stainless-bracelet model. If you've seen a stainless one for $155 on Amazon lately, you have my envy.

33 months running non stop (wearing everyday around the house and on a winder overnight). These are my observations: Still very accurate, less than one minute variation per month, power reserve is great, bezel is great, water resistance is fantastic (beach, shower everyday, pool) and the hardlex crystal is still flawless! love it

This is such a dirty watch. I was looking into Seiko's and wanted a white face, but the orange on this watch is fantastic. Very cool watch.

@MrMooseful I just bought the OM because of the black outlined hands and the colored dial on a stainless case makes it really pop. Can't wait to get mine tomorrow. =D

I have the discontinued SHC Orange face Divers 200

and the OM has a much better luminescence IMO

however the Japanese quartz movement and Sapphlex crystal make up for the SHC's shortcomings

These Seikos are highly underrated and get looked over at times by people seeking Invictas and Eco Drives

I was pondering an Invincta myself for an everyday watch but I ended up getting a new Seiko 5 Automatic.

@yellofury the only invictas worth getting are the high end ones using Valjoux movements. I wouldnt put a lower end invicta up against a high end seiko, the seiko has better QC and overall quality. Im not bashing Invicta at all im an invicta fan with a few reserve models but Seiko and Citizen have their act together just as good as any high end swiss company. And Reactor watches use Citizen movements so Reactor is also incredible reliable/durable value.

How do you exactly stop the second hand? Do you pull back the crown further, would that damage the watch or risk of pulling off the crown from the watch?

My Monsters illuminated dials fades pretty fast after 10-15 minutes, but then keeps a fairly stable glow.

I'm the same as you. My collection runs the Gamut but for some reason, I always return to the Monster a few times each week when I go through the watch case to pick one out to wear.

A personal favourite, what a great watch, I've got an Omega, some Invicta (Bad quality!) , 2 citizens, a Tissot etc. I don't know why, but this is the one I like most.
