@mbfipr : worst is the b***s - make sure both legs clear, or else. Broke a few masts in my days. Or when the feet don't quite clear, and you fall head first: just make sure you hang on to the booms then. Awkward fall, but no harm done.
I was just doing a lot of sailing inside the boom, facing the wind, on my Goya (100L) this weekend in fair winds. Couldn't quite jump it though.
@gracefulangels : point taken, but sorry I don't believe in them's helmets.
Have a look at the PWA guys, or my local freestyle champ'ships: nobody does, and no damage done there. I actually find that head injuries are easy to avoid: just keep hanging to the booms, esp short boards.
I find the worst injuries of my short and longboard freestyling have been dislocated shoulders, crotch, lotsa shin injuries and bleeding, wind knocked out and twisted knees, broken noses too.
I also have a 27-footer - Sydney is the best place in the world for that. And you're right that dinghies can be a good sport as well. But I like the extreme side of freestyle windsurfing...
Movies are recent - this year. Couple of stills are old from Sydney, Australia. Booms: yes, they're shitty. Difficult to tie properly, esp. for those moves. But they're one-design and consistent. Clip booms all have different inside curves, which make hard to jump over.
Addendum from the poster. Am responding to a mail that wonders: "Why would I want to do that?"
Simple: it's fun, it's free, it's a challenge (to me it is anyways), it is sport. And sailing inside-the-boom, facing the wind, is a real thrill to do, on any kind of board.
I'm not in Sydney these days, am overseas. No waves, no ocean here.
Jeez! I'll have to loose weight to try that!!!

Not complaining one bit.

I can really sail in the boom, face to the wind, with no problem... I think I must proceed to the next step, then ^^

hahha... nice freestyle session!! .. have you ever try forward loop with this sail? lol :-) take care & have fun!!!
lucatuch 3 years ago
The sail, the weight of the board, the mast - not a chance. Plus I loop (and miss some) in waves off Sydney, not on the flat here.
Longboard freestyle with no harness keeps one in shape though...
Cheers!

This must be a tongue-in-cheek question. Of course it's old sh*t. Point is: it's cheap, keeps me in shape, it's fun.
I dig up shorties when on the ocean in Australia and there is wind. Otherwise, longboard freestyle on yard sale gear.
pierrec45 4 years ago
Good, good, good, amazing , with a old sail, ok!!!
MANELRIC 4 years ago
Yes, you're right, the old gear with the longer boom (8') makes it more difficult. Oh well, more fun!

Yep. Board = 25$ in a garage sale. Not kidding.
I can do it on smaller and newer boards, but I'm not consistent then. The Star boards work fine, for instance.
