This was a terrible terrible movie. Just a pile of Americanised garbage. I recommend you watch Tora Tora Tora, it's a much better film. Mind you, you cant go wrong with Hans Zimmer.
It is interesting how the music fits in with the action, it actually makes the scene have a positive feel to it. Don't give me crap for this, I am a loyal American, but it made me think about how, overall, this was one of history's most successful attacks - it crippled the US navy with very little loss of Japanese life, and one could say that it was actually far more humane than other WWII battles in that it only targeted military rather than civilians. It's interesting to look from both sides.

The result of the bombing was rather that the US STARTED a war with the Japanese. It was a shitty choice we had to make, either drop 2 nukes to bring japan to its knees or lose alot more of our guys lives in the war. We did the logical thing in the interest of our own forces.
1 million lives? There was only 500,000 US soldiers that died throughout WW2. An exchange of innocent civilian lives for your soldiers lives is not how war is meant to be fought. Tactics such as dropping atom bombs on innocents is NAZI like.

they still are, if you look closely at history, though Japan was imperialistic the Attack on pearl harbor could have been stopped politically. US kinda in a way contributed to the attack.
the reason for the similarity is because hans zimmer does all his music in a way. if you listen to most of his compositions they all have little hints that sound like songs from other movies. small parts in the simpsons credit song are also like backdrafts theme. and like this Pearl Harbor and Pirates. just another reason why Hans is amazing.

@mrjay247 Actually, though I'm a big fan of Zimmer, that's not true. Listen to his soundtracks for the Pirates movies and Crimson tide, they are similar. Excellent, but similar sounding.

You have to keep in mind that the US used their nuclear bomb because of a lot of things. They didn't know about the side-effects and the radioactive decay after the blast at that time. They had also been fighting a war against the germans with high losses, not to mention that their economy wasn't doing too well. True, and the plans that Japan had to resist a US invasion, arming grade schoolers with spears to rush guys with rifles, plus whole units of suicide planes and boats, had it come to an invasion it would have been a blood bath.
The bombs prevented that. They were nasty but the alternative could have been worse for both sides.
Tojo didn't want to surrender, in the end it took the Emperor to do it. I don't believe Tojo cared for anyone but himself but the Emperor stepped up in the end.

good, hope they die horrible deaths, I had a grandfather who was tortured and killed as a POW by Japanese. A nuke is too good for them in my opinion, not to mention countless Chinese and Koreans the Japanese also killed during the war (innocent lives mind you, noncombatant lives).

Well in reality it wasnt much as paying them back as it was avoiding from invading mainland Japan. Since the figures for dead just on the beach head alone were to be 1 million Allied lives. Since the Japanese did plan on giving us hell with kamikazes and banzaa charges. It was a shitty choice we had to make, either drop 2 nukes to bring japan to its knees or lose alot more of our guys lives in the war. We did the logical thing in the interest of our own forces.

1 million lives? There was only 500,000 US soldiers that died throughout WW2. An exchange of innocent civilian lives for your soldiers lives is not how war is meant to be fought. Tactics such as dropping atom bombs on innocents is NAZI like.

Comparing 2 nukes being dropped on Japan and the Holocaust with 11 million people killed to 200,000-340,000 (Not all civilians but majority were civilians) Japanese is just silly, thus making any of your opinions no longer worth looking at if you truly believe that to be a point worth taking. :\

Its an american carrier at the begining the planes just take off the wrong way because the japanese had the isladnt (the tower bit) on the port side (left side) rather than the Starboard (right (im sure you already know all this) side)

they still are, if you look closely at history, though Japan was imperialistic the Attack on pearl harbor could have been stopped politically. US kinda in a way contributed to the attack.

the reason for the similarity is because hans zimmer does all his music in a way. if you listen to most of his compositions they all have little hints that sound like songs from other movies. small parts in the simpsons credit song are also like backdrafts theme. and like this Pearl Harbor and Pirates. just another reason why Hans is amazing.
