San Francisco -- Biking across the Golden Gate Bridge

I used to live in SF and ride 6 days a week, doing Mt Tam once a week, across the GG bridgeIve done it hundreds of times and yet its vivid in my soul as I speak an experience never to be forgotten, I used to bike each day to Planters Peanuts from Nob Hill... back in the 70s,... now I ride dirt rd ea day in arkansas... Im also working on some bike tricks see my vid... Id like to fly back out to sf and do mmt tam again....... CIAOOOOOOOOOO

I am riding my bicycle from D.C. to S.F. starting May 21. Were you able to camp a lot on your trip? I am trying to save money and hopefully not use hotels/restaurants that much. Any tips?

What you referred to as the "pipes" or "tubes" are actually the main cables of the bridge. I walked up the east cable to the top of the North Tower once on a beautiful summer evening. It was just a lark with a couple of friends, When we came back down, thgere were cops there, of course, and when they asked us why we did it, one of my buddies said simply, "It was a nice night for a walk", There was a small article in the SF Chronicle about our adventure the next day with my friend's quote...

As the headline. We didn't even get arrested, they just gave us tickets for trespassing. Nobody should even think of trying this now, you would surely be arrested. I sure wish I had a video camera back then! Btw, the color of the bridge's paint is officially known as "International Orange".

Thank you for your comment. Cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge was really awesome. I wish we had had the time to go up to Sausalito and take the ferry back. Great view towards the Pacific at sunset too..

The only thing that I disliked was the wrong way she said "Marin" because its a spanish word and is pretty sad that she doesnt know how its pronounced.

Actually biking the golden gate bridge is rougly less than a mile. If you're on a road bike, expect to reach speeds of up to 45!
