i never forget 8/9/1988 in Turin.... i was there in the middle singing and jumping.... so far from now.... so present to me. in memory of one of us wasn't more here.
glanneveaux - you make a strong point....but in spite of - or perhaps because of the reality that there are many wrongs to be righted, we still need to persevere and this song reminds us of that.
Great performance of a great song by all involved. Too bad that the reality is that yours/mine freedoms are becoming as extinct as the dinasaurs. What happened to this country? Never was what it was made out to be. Ask the Mexicans and Native American Indians; the only "true" Americans.
"For the countless confused, accused, misused, strung-out ones and worse, And for every hung-up person in the whole wide universe". Such powerful and evocative words from Dylan. So sad to feel unloved, disconnected, with no sense of belonging - we are all part of the same family and we all have a part to play in this world - however big or small. Amazing song.
OSLO, Norway – Imprisoned Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo won the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for using nonviolence to demand fundamental human rights in his homeland
nice cover..the keyboard and piano makes the song very melodious and catchy.....but y is everyone looking down at the lyrics sheet...r the lyrics that hard to remember....anybody notice this??????

I love this song and I am a great admirer of Amnesty...but you must have the view from the UK because the world did not look rosy or united from America in 1988. We had just survived 8 years of Reagan's economic punishments and military misadventures and found ourselves about to face 4 years of Bush One. There was only polarization here. I wish you good luck in the UK today, but please dont ask us to learn from the 80s, which paved the way for more larger wars and the financial collapse of 09.
@TomUltranova Dude, Reagan & Bush won the cold war. We had 20+ years of prosperity due to their economic policies. The war on terror is nothing compared to the ever present worry of nuclear annihilation we lived with then.
You really think we should return to mutual assured destuction and Carter's stagflation, really?
Wow. Over 20 yrs ago my parents got me and my 2 sisters tickets to the LA show, (including airline tickets from Denver) it was amazing. That experience changed my life.
For that moment, when Tracy Chapman sang that verse, there was perfection in the world.

Looking down at the lyrics? I'm a performer they're are a *lot* of lyrics to remember, as with many of Dylan's tunes.
I'm a Byrds devotee, but I imagined Springsteen singing this song a while earlier, when listening to the original Byrds cover. This is fabulous.

Well far between sundown's finish and midnight's broken toll
We ducked inside the doorway thunder crashin'
As majestic bells of boats struck shadows in the sun
Sayin' it may be the chimes of freedom flashin'
