  • @sdpy15 Nope.

  • @fishingwithrod Good vid anyway.

  • very nice bro! I have plans too move to van so now I know what to do;)

  • Good Point That is very true... I live near the columbia river in oregon, and we can get money for squawfish over 9" 4 dollars per fish! do they have that there

  • @MrSteelhead22 No we don't. The Columbia River is a different scenario. Dams have made habitats more favourable for northern pikeminnow so juvenile salmonids would not succeed without the removal of a percentage of their predators. The predator-prey relationship between northern pikeminnow and Pacific salmonids have taken place since the last glaciation. The demise of our salmon populations are not the result of a natural predators, but our actions in the past century.

  • Iam all about catch and realese but next time kill the pikeminnows they kill over 40% of salmon and steelhead smolts

  • @MrSteelhead22 What's the percentage of salmon killed by human?

  • ur the best!!!!!!!!

  • Make a video on Flyfishing in the Fraser River!!!

  • what type of rig do you have

  • whats a good equipment set up for that type of fishing your doing in this video? Ive never fished before would that be a good location to start?

  • @dalbin86 You can get more information on this fishery by going to our website, click on the articles section, look under "coarse fishing" and you'll find a few articles on chub fishing, Tidal Fraser River coarse fishing, etc.

For locations, again go to our website, click on "Fishing locations" in the menu, look for the "Tidal Fraser River" section. There are half a dozen good spots to choose from. Good luck.

  • Cut the head off that first PM and use it as bait.

  • what kind of hook do you use? It is really hard to get mine out.

  • where in vancouver is this?? do u have the address for it?

  • Ive been fishing the fraser hard the last week. At Burnaby foreshore park. Ive only been catching bullheads. That being said ive seen a few salmon coming up already. Have you been catching anything on the fraser lately?

  • @bistchen Lots of peamouth chub, northern pikeminnow and the odd largescale sucker. Too early for salmon (not open until mid July). In late August/early September, you should be able to find lots of pink salmon going through that spot.

  • Great vid, mate! Moving up to Vancouver in about a year(in Australia now), so def will be doing some fishing.

  • @cyphercomplete Thanks. When you make the move and have fishing questions, feel free to ask.

  • Where do you get the japanese bait powder?

  • @retin793 Japan.

  • Can you give me a map of where you are right now? Also is this a location for Tidal licence? I'm planing to buy a rod, I'm going for the cheapest one would it matter?

    Thanks!

  • @scvs2 Tidal Fraser River in Richmond. Tidal waters fishing licence needed.

  • @fishingwithrod Oh also, can I fish off the docks at Steveston Richmond and expect a Salmon?

  • @scvs2 Depending on the time of the year. Take a look at some of the articles on our website, which explain when you can catch salmon in the Tidal Fraser River.

  • float fishing or bottom fishing

    Respond please!?

  • what would you do if you caught a sturgeon

  • @savagechevyman Highly unlikely because the water I am fishing for these fish is only a couple of feet deep. Further out, you'd encounter sturgeon for sure. Occasionally we do find a sturgeon at the end of the line while salmon fishing. Most of the time, we are able to bring it in.

  • @fishingwithrod my friend caught one in the exact spot where you were fishing

  • @fishingwithrod oh ok

what pound test line you use

  • @savagechevyman For these little guys, usually 4lb test Maxima Ultragreen. Sometimes 6lb test, depending on how silty the Fraser is and how much debris are floating down.

  • @fishingwithrod ya up here in Northern BC we usually use anywhere from 8-12 pound test becuase we get multiple species including northern pikeminnow, sucker fish, peamouth, rainbow trout, dolly varden, lake trout, arctic grayling, kokanee, and ling cod( burbot)

  • Do you know where to get a portable rod holder close to steveston

  • @salinassmithfamily Try Berry's Bait and Tackle, they usually have some. Even Nikka Fishing and Marine may have some too.

  • @madmentals Dough.

  • @fishingwithrod worms also work great for both peamouth and northern pikeminnow

  • What kind of licence do you need to fish in the Fraser River? The fresh water licence or salt?

  • @scvs2 It depends on where on the Fraser River. The tidal boundary is the CPR bridge in Mission. If you are downstream from it, you need a tidal licence. If you are upstream from it, you need a freshwater licence.

  • where is your fishing locaion?

  • @retin793 Fraser River.

  • @fishingwithrod ok thanks :3

  • Love your videos and I am moving down to Vancouver(Yaletown) and was looking for a few spots to go fishing if you don't have a lot of time. If you have some other local spots would love to hear about them.

    Fish on

  • @Soar56 Lots of opportunities even if you live in Downtown. Just north of it, you have the Capilano River for coho and chinook salmon. Rice Lake just across from Second Narrows Bridge offers rainbow trout fishing. Ambleside Pier just west of Capilano offers sound bottom fishing and crabbing. Around Richmond, you can fish along the Fraser River year round. More information can be found on my website. Click on "fishing locations" in the menu when you visit it.

  • great fishing video man, fish on!

  • what is a pikeminnow ????

  • @fatboyandging If you go to our website, click on "Fish profile", go down the list and click on "northern pikeminnow". More information on this species is available there.

  • Is ur rod an ugly stick? i have the exact same rod

  • @MeCuzImWyte No that's not a Ugly Stik. That's a Daiwa spinning rod, rated between 2 and 6lb test. I can't remember the model name.

  • I just wanted to say i love your videos and I also have a question in the northern arm of the fraser river near Mitchell island if you use a spinner bait or a spoon will the fish be able to see it in the murky water?

  • @MaryJayWana808 Glad you enjoy the video. :) The Fraser River is typically murky from April/May (depending on when freshet starts) until late July/early August. It gradually clears up once the river begins to drop (after most of the snow melts in the Interior). Once the water clears up, spinners and spoons definitely would work. In August, we usually target northern pikeminnow with lures. In fall, we target cutthroat trout and bull trout with lures.

  • @MaryJayWana808 If you go to our website, there is an article called "Tidal Fraser River light spincasting" in the articles section, which explains everything that you need to know about this. In this YouTube channel, there is also a video called "Fishing with Rod: Evening pikeminnow fun" that is related to this.

  • Could you please tell me what road you go down to get there if you could do that it would be great :D

  • @SuperXmichaelx If you go to our website fishingwithrod . com, on the homepage, look further down and find "Dump Bar, Richmond". The article contains directions to this area with a map.

  • I'll be advertising this event for you on some of the fishing websites I frequent, and among my friends and family, Rod.

Nice to see you advocating fishing in the delta. Not enough people fish that area.

  • @plasterdbastard Thanks. :) Next year's event will be on July 9th 2011. At yesterday's event, 150 juvenile saltwater licences were issued. Attendance was roughly around 400 people. Good times.

  • @fishingwithrod Most excellent, Rod! Glad to hear that!

  • Hey Rod I have a question for you. Why do you cast. set hook, and reel with your right hand? And why wouldn't you just change your reel handle to your left hand side so the entire fishing process runs more smoothly.

  • @FishingKing754 It's just a bad habit that I picked up when I started fishing many years ago. These video are not just showing how to fish, but also how not to fish. ;)

  • @fishingwithrod Ah I see. Well it looks like you bad habit always pays off! XD

  • @FishingKing754 Not always. ;)

  • hi rod, where are the king salmons.

  • @gizliliman1 WCVI.

  • @fishingwithrod wcv1??july15?

  • great stuff as always :) it's nice to see that there are events like this taking place!

  • ...fun to watch! (even if ya are using a spinner and bait) lol

  • another great video rod. were you using dough balls there?

  • @liquidz604 Thanks. Dough balls they were indeed.

  • Looks great and wish I was in Vancouver still.... Rod what was the bait?

  • @Fisherkingnigel Just some dough balls made from flour, water and some of that Japanese bait powder. ;)

  • all those fish looked pretty much the same maby its just the camra

  • @spenfisher2 There is a video from last year on our channel called "Northern pikeminnow vs. peamouth chub", which shows you the differences between the two species. Check it out.

  • Very good job Rod, sounds like a good idea on what your doing with this organization this saturday. Video was great! Looked like fun man.
