  • i'm do know nothing about interpretating drawings, but, how many people draw themselves looking side face?

  • love his half-smile as he is drawing.

  • He drew a penis on the self portrait and said "that's my religion". Brilliant!

  • Ha, I like the self-portrait. It DOES look like Nick but in a sort of melancholic, demented way. It reminds me of the way he looked in The Birthday Party's video for "Nick The Stripper", as a previous commenter said.

  • Self portrait? Thanks can I also have a night with your wife!? SHIT!

  • Ask for a lock of hair while you're at it, mate.

  • Why is there this childish need to negatively rate everything? This interview is great to watch, I personally wholeheartedly agreed with his approach to creative process. It made me think how just sitting here and whining how nothing comes to my mind is completely missing the point, because writing is hard work.

  • I really wish the interviewers english was better, he's one of the best I've heard. Fantastic interview. Shit picture though, wunnit?

  • Great interview. I've watched other interviews where Nick seems agitated and bored with it all, he comes across a lot more relaxed and co-operative here. Probably helps that the interviewer is polite and not a bellend. That portrait is ace, too.

  • The bottom line is Mr. Cave is an emissary of the cerebral and the literary in music......forget about genres, people...They are only marketing tools...please see: Tindersticks, MF DOOM, Those Poor Bastards(one of the only bands with a Cave/Birthday Party influence), Merle Haggard, Dabrye, DJ Krush, Waylon Jennings(the Good Hearted Woman album 1972)....forget genres, LOOK FOR SUBSTANCE.

  • lol he wrote maestro on top of the portrait

  • GOD

  • "There's a misconception that I'm, kind of, gloomy. I don't have time to be that. I just get up and I go to work."

Classic depressive! I love Cave's humanity.

  • good interview

  • If you look closely at the portrait, you would interpret a rather disturbing self-image he had at that time. Brilliant interview, thanks for upload!

  • The interviewer IS scandinavian and he made it clear that he asked for the portrait because he was prepairing for his own show at the time (collected several portraits from OTHER people he interviewed at the time!)

Mister Cave liked the guy and did not think he was a bad interviewer... -he was actually quite amused by it all.

  • the interviewer is NOT french. not that I like the french that much, but come on now people. stop talking about "frenchy" etc!

p.s. nick rules over us all like a demigod!

  • I would love to see a hip-hop artist be so articulate and engrossing. It's not gonna happen.

  • You clearly havnt heard enough hip-hop, there are some absolute genius' out there.

  • Who? Not as a challenge, I'm just interested - I don't know that much about hip-hop and am always happy to have different music to follow up on.

  • He didn't answer you. 'Nuff said.

  • The drawing reminds me of how he looked in the "Nick the Stripper" video.

The interview was revealing and amusing at the same time, especially the latter because it had no intention of being so. Thanks for uploading them STUMM.

  • Thanks for uploading this interview, it was great to watch.

  • A dead rat up a drainpipe...

    that's a good one.

  • I'm in love!

  • I am scandinavian, and dude I have to agree with that it was kinda weird the self potrait thingy... haha.

  • Weird. Those Frenchies are just plain weird?

  • im afraid i have to disagree with MCKRUSH, i almost get the impression that hes wryly amused by the fact that this interviewer wanted him to draw up a self portrait. Cave comes across as the kind of person who doesnt subscribe to the average notion of celebrity, so i think he probably finds the entire idea of other people being so interested in him, interesting in itself.

  • Does anyone notice in Nicks interviews, the

interviewer askes his/her question and Nick yeah does answer them, but after a while of talking he forgets what the question was and he says "there you go, I don't know what your question was" or something like that...lol. I've been noticing that.

  • Asking for a self portrait? What a pain in the ass. Why didn't Frenchy just ask him for his underwear while he was at it?

  • I believe 'Frenchy' is Scandinavian.

  • And I believe he's an annoying twat.

Capping a tortuously insipid interview (which has visibly annoyed the artist) by asking for a self-portrait (which you'll likely sell on eBay) borders on rude.

  • Eh, whatever. If Nick didn't need the publicity, he wouldn't do the interviews, but he does, so he gets to suffer through them. It's part of being an artist.

But really whether or not the interviewer is a good person or is going to hell according to your personal scales of judgement is immaterial. I merely wanted to point out he's not French.

Although I see you're a Seppo, so perhaps for you 'Frenchy' is a term to encompass all foreign-types you don't like

  • A "Seppo"?

Anyway, good to know you've got Frenchy's back on this one. You must be mates or something, yeah?

  • seppo lol I In a big jam jar no dout.

  • "Asking for a self portrait? What a pain in the ass. Why didn't Frenchy just ask him for his underwear while he was at it?"

( lol ) Good point. A harmless request, but totally unnecessary.

  • This is a very interesting, useful, and perceptive series of interview segments--thank you for posting...I don't know how you got him to sit for this long. I am surpised he granted you so much of his time.

  • I'm glad someone posted an unedited video of this interview. What would you choose for a 5 minute edit on a TV show? As a fan, I would happy to watch this whole thing. Also, it's nice to see not just the MTV edited version of the person, but how they are really are with people, and see the whole interview situation, which is necessarily false, but you never see that side of things. If only there were more and better questions that were being asked.

  • Thank you for this 4 part interview. I love what Nick had to say about sadness and creativity.

  • The interviewer might not have been the most entustiatic ever, but he had good and well formulated questions... I found the interview interesting... but maybe not that entertaining (Ecsept maybe the drawing part ;)

  • i think judging a raw feed is like judging the ingredients of a cake. don't expect much. what questions should the interviewer ask instead? i found the answers illuminating actually.

  • oh i think he still longs for polly jean

  • he has clas obviously putting up with him...he was so nervous...

  • That was really good, thank you

  • he looks quite un-amused.

  • ok nick cave could've definately spent his time much wiser than fucking around with this cat, oh well. he's a straight up dopple ganger from hell. fuck him.

  • yeh i agree he is horrible!!but Nick is gentelman kepeng going...

  • He could have been more talkative, the interviewer. The interview was interesting anyway.

  • what a crappy interviewer but nick put up with it

  • Lol. After saying he wasn't a gloomy person he draws himself with a very gloomy expression.

  • "Trying to find the way I feel is like trying to find a dead rat up a drain pipe"

    XD
