Good tutorial man, thanks! I do a lot of photo mischief, putting people into strange places or swapping faces and stuff, but I always used to use the "polygonal lasso" tool to just delete the background, or the "magic eraser" if the background is plain enough. Masks seem to be a much more versatile way of doing this kind of thing though. I should've learnt about them a long time ago! After that I'd normally just use the "photo-filters" and other tone options to match the environments.

Great tutorial it help me so much as I'm placing my cut out ( image ) I lower the OPACITY slider down so I can see where I'm placing the cut out & when I'm done I put the OPACITY back to 100%

when i combine two images i generally find its the resolution of the two images that really makes one different stand out from the other. is there a way around this? its hard to find an image with similar resolution - i know photoshop has an option to make the image resolution the same but it doesnt work great.

@tenaciousd1888 I would guess that you are not brushing with a 100% opacity brush. Check the brush settings at the top. Another cause could be brushing with grey instead of pure black.

@Exploduer Check these things - make sure the brush is painting at 100% oppacity, make sure your painting with black, make sure you are painting on the correct layer mask.

Or you could use the magnet tool to magnet him out of the background, copy-paste him into the other picture, blur the edges and correct the contrast and colours accordingly.

@MrCrookiemonster The reason i didn't do that is because that would make a very crude / rough isolation. If you want the isolation to look good you need to use a layer mask and do it by hand.
